Very, I think buffy holds back a lot.

Brent Justice

Jeez, how strong are slayers? Bending a rifle barrel is no joke

Timothy Nikiforovs

No of course not. Different times, some things were more acceptable, or not acceptable. People didn't really take things so offensively back then either, today everyone is so quick to take offense at every little thing, back then you just didn't let it get to you. Not excusing the behavior, no one is, but people weren't so quick to take offense.

Brent Justice

oh my, it's been a very long time since I watched this episode, but I never realized how inappropriate it was. Excusing a jocks behavior as lashing out cause of his sexuality? Did schools in the 90's really instruct entire classes of boys to simulate attacking girls? The joking of Giles and Buffy on lovers lane. Who wrote this one?

I think the way they built Oz into the cast was pretty brilliant. Kept him as a background character for a long time, only giving him a scene here or there, then let him know there's monsters in Sunnydale, and then incorporated him fully by giving him his own episode. I think the reason he didn't tell anyone was that he was pretty scared what might happen to him, plus a little ashamed because as far as he knew, he was responsible for Teresa's death and probably wasn't too sure how the rest of the gang would react to the fact. The red herring with Larry was done well, although there are definitely some elements of homophobia in Xander's reaction. In fairness, this came out in the 90s and its understandable that Xander would be surprised and a little uneasy since he'd probably never met anyone who was gay before, but yeah it definitely could have been handled better. Xander is kinda generally insensitive and childish, so it's not surprising he'd react the way he did. Even if it is pretty douchey. I grew up as a pansexual in the 90s, in a small rural community, even smaller than Sunnydale, and that shit was scary. You never knew how someone would react. I think it was pretty clever how they mirrored Oz's story and Larry's story. Both are hiding who they are out of a fear of being ostracized or persecuted, but both are ultimately happier when they are able to be honest and the blowback isn't as bad as either would have expected.

Loved your reaction. And I like that you like Willow!

Phoenix Dawn

Loved this one - your reaction to the Oz reveal was awesome. Oz is one of my favourite characters in the whole show, and he's got some great content coming up! Can't wait for the next one!

Arriane Skjonnemand

Loved your reaction to the Oz reveal transforming from a werewolf. Great reaction as always!

My main takeway from watching this episode in 2020... There are so many people on twitter that would have been rooting for Kane.

Bisibia

That ending tho...Oz is the cutest!
