The wait for you to get further into this season is killing me! :)

Lady Beyond The Wall

Sooo, something is different about Sam since Jolinar took her as a host, the gamemaker couldn't user her mind, interesting to note.

One of the sillier episodes for sure but it also has some great emotional moments. And Jack pulling off Teal'c beanie has to be one of the funniest things ever!

Hmm, a squirrelly, antisocial dude played by Dwight Schultz who is obsessed with a simulated environment.....where have I seen this before? I also like that they didn't show Jay Acovone's name until AFTER Kowalski showed up so as not to spoil the surprise. When Jack says that the mission in 1982 was the most blown operation he was ever involved with though, I had to stop and think if some of his missions at the SGC went worse. Even back in The Nox when they tried to ambush Apophis and everyone but Teal'c died(probably be a bunch more by the end of the series). You can tell though how tempted Jack is to try and save his friend even knowing it's not real, but just refusing to play the game anymore. I think Michael Shanks got to show off his acting chops more than anyone here. He really managed to sell that he was someone watching his parents die over and over and powerless to change it. Knowing Daniel was orphaned fairly young added a whole new layer to his character. Daniel's analogy of "a TV, a VCR and 5 movies" is one of those things that really dates the show. All the old boxy cars and CRT TVs really let you know this was made in the late 90s. Later on as the production went into the mid 2000s you start to see flatscreens in the SGC and newer car models, but early on the show felt very 90s. I always get a kick out of O'Neill slapping Hammond's head, also when he booked it from the control room I'm left thinking "didn't know the guy could move that fast". It's a pretty fun episode with some great dramatic moments. Too often these days shows will be hardcore drama and cynicism nonstop and never step back and just have a light hearted episode with no drastic consequences. I miss that. Also back to 1 SG1 ep a week is torture. Cant wait for you to get to 2x06. Fantastic episode

Although this is a light episode with some emotional punches, I like that the writers put some thought into it. They didn’t have to give us Kowalski, but they did. They didn’t have to exclude Teal’c and Sam, but they did; and it’s interesting to learn being a host to Jolinar has made Sam different in some way. Seeing Hammond act out of character was pure comic relief.

I wasn't a fan of this one. I often used to skip it upon rewatches. Although it does have some solid character building elements I just wasn't as onboard with watching Daniel lose his parents over and over. Michael Shanks does a great job in those moments, but at the time, it was still to soon after the loss of my father. I also found the chair pods design a bit naff even for the 90's. There are other parts of the designs that felt a bit low budget comparatively. Small details that can pull you out of an episode. In the past few years I don't often skip it and it's good to see those elements of the story being told again. Odd seeing Dwight Schultz as well, as I grew up with The A Team. A well known television actor who also starred in another sci-fi show as the reoccurring character Reginald Barclay in both Star Trek TNG and Voyager.
