This episode is okay. Clara is more annoying than usual, the paternoster sucks as always. That stupid phone call at the end.

Olivia Colman was almost the 12th doctor. She played a great detective along side David Tennant in broadchurch. Peter Capaldi won out the producers just slightly, They both would have been fantastic though, go watch Broadchurch.

I wobble between 11 and 12 depending on where I am at on a rewatch. Not sure I can really choose between them. I can say that the Moffat era is my favourite era of Who

Twelve has become my all time favorite Doctor.

I saw this at the cinema (though not in 3D this time as DOTD :-) & it looked incredible on the big screen. The story moves at a brisk pace but does have lulls to suit the extended feature length run time but its never a chore to watch.I loved 12 from min 1, I love the sass and the chemistry between Clara and 12 is a lot of fun going forward. Peter is probably the most accomplished actor Doctor Who has ever had & it will be fun to see how that resonates with you as we go on. Peter is an incredible guy & I've been lucky to meet him and he just was the nicest man & loads of fans will tell you the same. Can't wait to continue 12's run again!!

While not imo as good as Eleventh Hour,this is nonetheless a very watchable 'first story'. You're right - Capaldi has gravitas (something occasionaly missing from certain doctors);and the direction displays a lot of flair. Looking forward to your journey through 12s era.

I like that you noticed the garden at the end looking like the one in The Girl Who Waited. Fun fact it's actually the same location that they just used twice for filming. It has also been used in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures too :)

On the flipside I don't think the Smith era was for me but I was a huge Capaldi fan prior to him being cast, so this got me back into the show. I think he might be the strongest actor in all of Doctor Who.

I still miss Matt, even now. He was my favourite doctor and my excitement for the show waned after he left. BUT 12 is also great and Capaldi is a brilliant actor. I'm sure you'll grow to love him.

I find it funny that people seem to think complaining about the new doctor is a recent thing. People have complained about every doctor since the first one.

It took me four episodes to really like 12, and I've watched classic who, so I had no issue with an older doctor. I love Clara too, just don't understand the hate Clara gets. But then again this is Doctor Who everyone has their favourite doctor and favourite companion.

It's been six years or so since I've seen The Time of the Doctor and then 8x01 and I really thought I was over the heartbreak of losing Matt Smith and over the excitment of getting Peter but you just had me crying with you again at the end there. Loved what they did with this episode. Clara was a genuine nod to the fandom, since there was some backlash (like there always is) that Peter is too old and/or not the right choice but he IS the Doctor and it does hurt when people don't see that. Ah man, I love re-watching my favourite show alongside you, keep up the great reactions!

Speaking of re-watching The Day of the Doctor, it seems to me that some works of art and that even includes some episodic TV (especially shows written by Moffat) must be savored at least a second time to be fully appreciated.

i know you said 12's outfit was missing something since its quite simple but that was purposefully done by the actor (Peter Capuldi) because he wanted people to be able to easily and cheaply cosplay as the doctor instead of having to buy crazy accessories - which i personally think is the sweetest thing in the world

Probably my least favourite outfit of his. Liked the episode, especially Clara as a substitute for the fans who were having trouble accepting Peter Capaldi as The Doctor. It's an interesting season ahead, took me a while to get into it. Peter definitely is one of my favourite Doctors. Possibly favourite, depending on if I've watched Christopher Eccleston recently. 🙂

Wasn’t really sure whether or not you remembered Peter Capaldi from the Fires of Pompeii back in Series 4. He played the stone maker whose name escapes me at the moment. The Doctor questioning whether or not he had seen his face before was a little nod to that episode.

When the Doctor is trying to remember Clara's name you talked over a gorgeous line - he described her as 'the not me one' - I love that line.

BTW the "he's changed; why does he look old?" etc comments by Clara and the others are a dig at the fake fans who left because the Doctor suddenly was played by an older actor (mostly fake "fan"girls). Also, the Doctor acting like one of the automatons was a nice not often used thing, as the Gallifreyans have a Respiratory Bypass System, where they recycle the air in their lungs for X amount of time (tens of minutes potentially AFAIK)
