oh wow I had thought that 6 years would be around the minimum but 8 years makes more sense. I love how often Oda does this sort of thing. It's easy to forget that in the anime I don't think it's even been a year since they started their journey.

Creating a world with over 800 Characters and trying to remember all of there attack moves, even if I was the author writing one piece, I would not be able to keep up with all those finer details. What I mean specifically is the narative, the focal points of the story is something he does not forget and he probably does his own research to look back at his old manuscripts and journals to see how things would fit. But Oda really is a masterclass at improvising and planning his story out. Unlike some authors that either don't care or just write things out of the story completly.

I did a little research and found a popular thread of someone who made the best estimations they could based on the information we were given, and by their estimates Luffy's journey from beginning to their arrival at Thriller Bark was about 142 days (a bit over 4 months). For the time between when they met Laboon and arrived at Thriller Bark, it's estimated at 52 days. These of course aren't canon estimates, Oda often does not give us specific dates so some of it is guesswork.

And he knew that fans would remember Laboon because I mean come on, Laboon's story is so incredibly sweet and heartbreaking. Brook has been and always will one of my favorite characters because of how seriously he takes his promises. I mean he went through everyone's worst version of hell, and he endured because he HAD to get back to Laboon.
