What a weird take on Mikiya lol. I feel like I’m watching a different show.

2025-12-02 00:33:58 +0000 UTCI've heard a pretty good analysis about a few of Nasu's main characters and I found it helped me understand Mikiya a bit more. Basically the analysis said that from first glance Nasu appears to be writing a pretty standard trope most of the time the trope of a "Normal" Male character getting dragged into the mysterious world by the more interesting Female lead. This is usually used when the main character is supposed to be audience insert but the difference when Nasu does it is that he is lying when he makes the male character appear "Normal". In Fate Shirou to the rest of the world he appears to be a normal slightly more helpful than average high school boy. Over the course of the story it's revealed he's more aware of the mysterious side of things than first seems but that's actually not what's not "normal" about him. What's not normal is his complete lack of self value that Rin realizes in UBW. In Mikiya's case what is not "normal" about him is that he takes being "normal" too far and has "normal" reactions to abnormal situations. He doesn't react to severe things like they are severe he just reacts to them like he would anything else. If you were to tell him an interesting mundane fact or an insane world shifting hidden secret he is someone who react about the same to both.
