Straight To HELL!? | Owarimonogatari S2 Episode 1 REACTION

This seems like a wild arc and I am excited for it! I love the exposition in this and the way that it handles the story. Also I did read up a bit on the Avici Hell and how it's a part of Buddhism!

Re: Senjou & Kaiki - Senjou definitely had a crush on Kaiki, the way an impressionable young girl at a vulnerable moment can get attached to an older man who offers her salvation (her more self-aware of this than most). Kaiki has shown absolutely 0 interest in pursuing Senjou in a romantic sense, largely due to the fact she was a literal child when they met and unlike our MC, Kaiki does not seem to be attracted to little girls. But he did show immense care and pity towards her. That's all I've ever read it as, he saw this strong young girl in a horrible situation and despite being the wrong person for the job tried to do what he could to help her. But all he succeeded in was taking revenge against the cult, breaking up her parents, and making her despise him. He couldn't help Senjou, the way Araragi couldn't help Nadeko. Senjou liked Kaiki for the wrong reasons, similarly to how Nadeko liked Araragi for the wrong reasons. It all rhymes. Beyond that it's just Araragi fearing if Kaiki had responded to those feelings from Senjou, would they have been a better couple? We the viewer and Kaiki and Senjou know the answer is "absolutely not".

I wasnt able to find a release date that I felt was trustworthy for the Blue-Rays. So putting off the decision for now is probably the best choice.

Absolutely, MTBB subs are the way to go for Monogatari series. However, unfortunately, MTBB has only done up to episode 10 of Off & Monster season. Additionally, there is currently no work being done on episodes 11+. We may have to go with Crunchyroll for the rest of the season. (Or wait a really really long time)

I think waiting for the blu-ray version could be worth it. The second half of the season was especially affected by the tight schedule and could do with some improvements. Is difficult to say since we don't yet know what they will change, but the improvement we're seeing so far seems to indicate they're putting effort into making sure the BD version looks the best it can.

MashedPotato

The quality of Off/Monster is already way better than anything besides Kizu. The blu-ray will just add 1 more OP and that OP is on youtube anyways. Could just sync up the OP after episode 1.

I am fine with waiting for Blu Ray

Senjougahara had a childhood crush on Kaiki but, ironically enough, Kaiki is too guy of a guy to ever reciprocate such a thing so it was more of a one sided thing. It is heavily implied that Kaiki at the very least felt and still feels sympathy for Hitagi

So, Buddhism does believe in reincarnation but it isn’t (or doesn’t have to be) an immediate thing that happens upon one’s death. Like the consciousness would move on to an afterlife based on the life that they lived. Buddhism is the basis for this depiction of Hell. Avici is know as the deepest layer of hell and that’s where you would burn for however long you had to based on your sin(s) while you waited to be reincarnated. Regarding Kaiki and Senjous relationship, regardless of if it was really a thing or not , what is important is the impression it left on Araragi. He was (and somewhat still is) jealous of this relationship that Kaiki had alluded to between the two of them back then. So it’s real to him because he knows that Senjou was in a vulnerable situation and, as she said, she probably would’ve fallen for anyone that saved her. That’s one of the best parts of Nise imo, her acknowledging it and coming to terms with how weak she was back then, somewhat detesting that part of herself, and coming to realize that she was happy it was Araragi.. if this episode was a re-treading of past events and a look at his insight to how he felt about how he handled these decisions, he’ll have to also acknowledge that maybe Kaiki could’ve been that for her in his mind. as the audience we know that’s wrong, but to him it’s possible. When it comes to off and monster season… just watch them after. There’s not really a reason to hold out tbh. If you’re a fan of the show enough to the point that YOU care about the changes that they’ll make then you can always look at that on your own time and maybe revisit it if anything major changes, but ultimately, they’ll just clean up some scenes, add another OP and probably add some different ED animations based on the arcs. Some of the episodes as they aired were extremely gorgeous already.

Whatever you pick, stick with MTBB subs instead of crunchyroll

Araragi doesn't really have to be religious since he knows that gods, spirits and the afterlife exist for a fact. I'd say there's a big difference between believing something and knowing something.

I would be happy with you watching Off & Monster Season right after Zoku, you would be the first person I see to watch it right in succession. But I would really recommend watching ESPECIALLY the first episode in the Blu-ray version, since it has an Opening that isn't in the version that aired at all.
