They really decided to bring as many callbacks as possible for the final season. For example, in these two episodes we have Tsubasa and Maria using the song from their first duo performance in the battle and the final line in episode 12 started by Shem-ha and completed by Hibiki (Meteroids, falling, burning, disappear, then ...) are the lines that appear next to the logo in the opening for the first season.

I mean they brutally killed a lot of ppl for no real reason and their only excuse was because they were "weak" :/. Also notice how Tsubasa stayed dead silent when they died :D yeah ripping a heart of an innocent girl right in front of her... she didint forgive them.
