oh, i guess i didn't mention this in the last episode, but a few years after the original release of the Visual Novel, they released a different version of the Visual Novel, called Fate/stay night Realta Nua, which removed all the H-scenes and replaced them with alternative scenes - the scene that we saw in the anime in the previous episode is from that Realta Nua version. I actually like the replacement scenes better in the Fate and UBW route, while in Heavens Feel an argument could be made either way. Yeah, Assassin is a fictional Heroic Spirit who probably never actually existed in history (both our history and the Fate universe's history). It's not the same for Heroic Spirits like King Arthur, Heracles, or Cu Chulainn, since unlike in our universe, they actually existed in the Fate universe as actual people in the past. That is probably why Saber was surprised to learn of Assassin's fictional nature, as she herself is (in the Fate universe) definitely not fictional. Well, I think in our universe, King Arthur's existence is uncertain - there may be one or more actual historical figures from which the stories drew inspiration from, but probably not a single figure. I think in the VN it was a bit clearer (if i remember correctly): Saber defeated Assassin because Assassin's sword (which is not a legendary sword) got damaged when it clashed against Excalibur. As a result Assassin's ultimate technique's execution was flawed, and Saber's incredible instinct (she has a high rank in the Skill "Instinct") managed to exploit that imperfection.
