2024-12-13 19:45:40 +0000 UTCI mean, in the last episode of Season 1, where Caster attacked the church looking for the Grail and Kirei had to flee, we see Lancer looking towards Kirei and saying something like "You're sure you don't want me interfering?". That's a pretty strong hint there :D Though Kirei isn't the one who summoned Lancer, he took him from his original master, who (I believe) will not even be mentioned in the anime. And yeah, you're pretty right on the topic of Saber's wish. It is a selfish and somewhat misguided wish (caused by the guild Saber was feeling about how her reign ended), and this (wanting to change the past) is one of the major themes that gets tackled in the Fate route. The basement scene (everyone who read the VN knows what I'm talking about) from that route is probably my overall favorite scene in the whole Visual Novel (except maybe The Last Episode :D).

2024-12-13 19:44:31 +0000 UTCSaber has guilt over the civil war that happened. She probably wouldn't want to redo the selection if another country had simply taken over. Her huge guilt is over the fact that she feels she made poor decisions that led to a disaster that should have been avoidable. The vessel doesn't have to be a homunculus. Either the third or fourth holy grail wars were the first to use a homunculus. This was done in order to hide the grail in plain sight since no would expect the grail to be a living being. The alternate timelines won't be elaborated beyond this. According to the writer Archer came from a timeline that mostly resembled the Fate route except he wasn't able to have as close of a bond to Saber.
