It went after Shinobu in the past because she pretended to be a god even though she was a vampire. Gaen, however, wanted to actually turn Shinobu into a god, in which case the darkness would not have come after her since Shinobu's nature would have changed, thereby not making it a lie for Shinobu to act or say she was a god. Also, the novels are still being released. The first three seasons tell the main saga, Off Season (season 4) are extended side stories that fill in some gaps, while Monster season (season 5) and Family season (season 6) are sequel seasons. Off and Monster season got a first adaptation this year, while Family season only has 1 novel released so far.
