Makoto Makes His Decision! | Senpai Is An Otokonoko Episode 12 REACTION

Absolute gem of an anime and I am so happy we will be getting a movie! This has been an incredible finale and thank you guys for watching it with me!

Yeah, thanks. That's a good point I wasn't getting across well. She gave up her feminity too and became a tomboy. Which wasn't true to herself either. Japan is so conformist, and there's the "sins of the father" thing too which has to affect her But yeah, she's a traumatized person here too and in a way her son is saving her. I think that's beautiful.

Agreed. We shouldn't assume that mom is okay with grandpa because we come from different societies. Especially Grandpa's situation is still very rare and lack of public awareness in Asian countries. From Grandpa's words, we can see that the society has not yet had an appropriate attitude to deal with this situation. People have to sacrifice something to maintain identity. mom's attempt is to protect her son and she sacrifices her hobbies as well. She is actually in the same situation as her father and son. She also believes that she must sacrifice her true identity to maintain this binary gender family. I think her good intention should be seen, even if as a parent it is incorrect move. I'm glad she finally spoke from the heart with the help of makoto.

I'm more sympathetic because to be honest we're really reading a lot into their relationship based on very small details shown to us. When a relationship breaks down, it's rarely that simple. You commented how much she look like makoto and it made you confused, right? She was essentially doing the same thing makoto and her father did but for different motives. And I just can't help but think there's more the father could have done. He's the parent, he could have tried to bridge the gap. He even says something about "letting a bunch of things go to keep one". And the one he kept wasn't his daughter, it was dressing the way he wanted. So from a certain point of view, without understanding his side, that can seem selfish right? So I think it's more complicated than "you dressed up like a girl so I hate you". I think she does feel some remorse through her language to makoto. When she speaks of " making people uncomfortable ", she's speaking of what she did. I don't know. This is a deep subject and we could go on for hours lmao. But as a child, looking at how she didn't recover her love for feminity until she was married, I think the abandonment was very much two sided. I also feel her worry was valid in regards to how others would see him. you mention that if it makes someone uncomfortable, who cares? That's easy to say. But I also think of watching Clannad and seeing the mc lose a promotion because his DAD got drunk and got arrested. Family reputation is a crazy thing there. So I'd imagine there's a certain aspect of .. this could lose you jobs, lose a social life. In his mom's memories, the dad was always having to hide in back alleys. She didn't want her son to live that way. It reminds me of my mom worrying when I chose to date out of my race, because growing up for her she saw how much backlash it got. I eventually figured out she didn't care either way herself, she never gave me a hard time. But she lived in a different era and saw things I thankfully didn't have to see. *Shrugs* This just shows how great this series is. The characters are so multifaceted and interesting. You could do side stories on them lol.

I can see what you're saying and when I was a teenager I honestly would probably be a bit weirded out and would've backed off for some time, but there is no way in hell that this would make me break contact with my parent for decades. My biggest complaint about the mom is not that she was initially weirded out by it, it's that she didn't grow up and realize how ignorant that kind of mentality was all the way until her child was going through the same thing.

I've been reading along with the source material as the anime airs to see stuff that gets taken out or changed . One thing that isn't shown is the grandfather said he was on "business trips", then would go dressing up like his daughter. And I guess I disagree with you, but I can absolutely see how that would creep her out. He is her father, not her peer. She's expecting him to guide her and show an example. Plus, he's lying to them. I can absolutely say I'd be freaked out if a parent was imitating me and going out in public without my knowledge. I guess I look at it like those situations where an older person realizes their orientation and leaves their family. It may be understandable but as a kid you'll still feel a certain way . Maybe now that her and makoto are making up, they can try talking again for closure.
