Progress Report

Alright! Hope everyone enjoyed (or at least survived) Christmas. Since there's a good chance some of you missed it in the holiday chaos, a quick mention so you don't miss out on the Short Story and Extra Wallpapers I released on Christmas Eve. 

With that out of the way...progress report time. First thing...I have not started on the second short story. Not beyond some basic planning, at least. And I'm not going to do so until after the game is released. The reason for that, simply put, is that I want to give as high a possible chance of the game releasing before the end of the month as possible. Since I have an event to half-willingly attend on New Years Eve, I really only have until early morning of the 31st to make that work. Hence, focusing solely on it to the exclusion of the short. If the game gets done and released before then, awesome. I'll use whatever time is left in the month to work on the short story. If it doesn't? Then I'll work on the short a little late, first thing in January. Basically, just a restatement of the standard policy I have regarding the short stories. But there's always new people, so it needs said.

Now, as for the game itself. It's going...somewhat well? All the renders are done and post-processed and I've started on the writing/coding. Unfortunately, the writing/coding is proving to take longer than I expected it to for each individual section. I had hoped to knock out one entire path today (the Town Path). Instead, by the time I crash in a couple of hours, I'm expecting to only have about 60-70% of that path done. And it's actually the less complex of the two paths. So...I'm a little bit concerned about that. I didn't quite have a full day to work on it, as a few family things interfered, so I'm hoping I can do better tomorrow. But I'd be remiss in not admitting that there's at least a small chance of a delay on the game. It won't be a very long one if there is one at all. And the only reason there's even a chance of it is that I pretty much won't be available at all on the 31st. But the chance does exist. So, fair warning about that.

That said, aside from the speed, I haven't actually hit any snags. I had the paths pretty thoroughly outlined and the critical path figured out from before I even started rendering. Given that I'm also working in TWINE, which I'm intimately familiar with from years of working on Haven's Port and the Dungeon of Lewdity, and I'm not anticipating any actual, serious stumbling blocks. The only concern at this point should be the amount of time it's taking. And hopefully the second path will be a bit quicker than the first, since part of the issue is the need to figure out how to handle the slightly different format of the game as I go, and all of that will be sorted out by the time I start on the second path. 

Anyway, that's about the shape of things for now! Stay safe through the rest of the holidays...and just in general, really!
