December 2024 release quick poll
Added 2024-12-02 15:42:24 +0000 UTCHi!
All right, now that the time for the new release model arrived, I noticed a few problems I hadn't anticipated before. Merchants will have a hard time waiting for new models, for example, including me, with my Cults3D and CGtrader sales.
So, since apparently there's no easy way out of this, as the people who arrived in November weren't charged in the 1st of December, I'm really tempted to just start releasing all models as I finish them, one per week.
And then new patrons would have access to new models for as long as they remain with me, and they would get the last four ones as if it were the current release.
I hadn't made a consultation before, but I'm doing one now. So please let me know what you guys think.
And I hope I can count on your patience while I figure out the best way to handle this new situation.

Thank you all very much for your thoughts. It helped me a lot in thinking this over, and I believe I reached a good solution. I'll start releasing one model per week from now on, and then in the end of the month, I'll send a recap message with all the models released in the month, like what I already do. I think this will cover most of people's expectations, and it won't bring me any meaningful difficulties besides the ones I'm already facing ;)

2024-12-02 22:48:51 +0000 UTCThank you very much for the feedback. After thinking about it during the day, I guess I'll make both release schemes. I'll release one model each week, and then in the end of the month I'll send a standard message with all models again, in a bundle, for those like you who like to have everything in just one place. I think this is the best solution I could come up so far, and it won't bring me much extra work.

2024-12-02 22:46:10 +0000 UTCThank you! I like the weekly release idea the most, and I'm aware there's always someone who will feel left out by this kind of change.

2024-12-02 22:44:02 +0000 UTCAlthough I like the idea of loyalty models, from my experiences with it, I saw no meaningful different in patron retention, unfortunately. And four models a month seems like a good number for the amount of weeks we usually have in each month, so I would be able to keep a constant release pace.

2024-12-02 22:42:47 +0000 UTCUnfortunately not anymore :( Some people opted to delay this transition until next year, but that means they won't show up on the Patreon app when accessed through the Apple store. If only there was a way to automate the releases, we probably wouldn't have to deal with all this. If I could just upload my stuff here, or leave a message stored somewhere with the download links, and then set it to be sent to all patrons who got billed again on Patreon, that would solve our issues. But Patreon lacks a lot of functionalities in this regard.

2024-12-02 22:41:19 +0000 UTCYes, exactly, all the next releases would happen in the end of the month from now on. The problem is the transition, due to the two months gap that can screw up the algorithm for those who sell physical copies of my models, and myself included, regarding the digital files. But I'm thinking about releasing one model each week, and then making a re-cap in the end of the month, releasing them all again in the same way I'm used to.

2024-12-02 22:37:43 +0000 UTCAlso I assume you will release all december models to all current backers at the end of december, pretty much to make sure everyone got them. Was this basically for transition to end of month releases, so that january release will be at the end of january?

2024-12-02 20:39:57 +0000 UTCActually this is not a bad idea, I'm only hoping he can keep up with the quality of doing a model a week. We don't want lower quality models.

2024-12-02 18:33:05 +0000 UTCI suggest that you publish the models weekly, but only three models in a row. The fourth model will only be sent to Patreons who have been a member for 2 months in a row. This "loyalty reward" reduces the likelihood of people only signing up every two months. (Some other creators already do this.) Further loyalty rewards for very long membership should not be affected.

2024-12-02 18:31:04 +0000 UTCBeing a November sub I refrain from voting because I think the most important thing is being fair to your older subscribers, not disrupting your workflow and offer something that attracts new subs.

2024-12-02 18:21:35 +0000 UTCThe majority of us appreciate all your hard work and attention to detail. Do whatever will be easiest for you and to heck with the few who disagree, HECK I SAY!!

2024-12-02 17:35:55 +0000 UTCas a merchant, my opinion was to have the weekly as ready release anyway

2024-12-02 17:17:02 +0000 UTCPersonally I like it at the end of the month or more specifically just having one download I have to do. That being said I would rather things be better for your business as I would rather a slight inconvenience to me but you able to keep doing business.

2024-12-02 16:48:01 +0000 UTCI did not select an option, because I'm in the camp that thinks you should do what is best for you. I would rather you dedicate your energy to crafting amazing sculpts than complicated release logistics.

2024-12-02 16:16:29 +0000 UTCI'm good with whatever works best for you, particularly as you consider your Cults3D and CGtrader sales.

2024-12-02 16:12:59 +0000 UTCThis. The situation here is bad, but whatever solution you settle on will really only turn everything upside down for one cycle as it adjusts. Long term I think either option is viable, but if you are concerned about abuse, I do think the bulk release at the end of the month is the way to go. Either way, you can always make changes later down the line if you feel like the solution isn't panning out how you like.

2024-12-02 16:03:47 +0000 UTCI mean I feel like I've barely been here long enough to have an opinion on this but I feel like a scattered release would still work better than having to deal with pushing an entire month delay. I'm all for patience but if it's gonna mess with your other sales then definitely just break it up. I doubt any of us are going anywhere.
