Caregivers: what it means & my experience as a CG

A common misconception is that a CG is also always D-type. This does not have to be the case - a CG does not even have to be a dominant person, but simply one who wants to take care of another human. Caregivers possess traits such as caring, nurturing, gentleness, and kindness. Their ultimate desire is to nurture, protect, and care for their human. Caregivers have different names, depending on the CG’s style of caregiving, what gender they identity with, and what they’re comfortable with. These names can include Daddy, Mommy, Auntie, Uncle, Nanny, and Big Sibling - this last name also shows that CGs can even be ageregressors themselves! Again proving the misconception wrong.
As a CG myself, I want the best for my Ageregressors:
- Healthy coping mechanisms
- Good decisions for their benefit
- The ability to meet their basic needs even when it’s a really difficult day
- Proper and regular self-care
Ageregression is normal and valid. It is a coping mechanism for people with childhood trauma. Ageregression can help process that trauma in a safe space, while at the same time healing the inner child that’s been wounded.
My role as a CG is to hold space for ageregressors, a space in which they can process trauma and heal their inner child, in whatever form this may come.
