The most common projection, is the Mercator projection, distorts the sizes of landmasses, especially as you move farther from the equator. So it has nothing to do with the land masses around it just with the position of the country/continents that’s also why Greenland is so big in fact its 8 times smaller in real life and 14 times smaller than Africa
