December 2, 2023 - Update
Added 2023-12-02 07:47:33 +0000 UTCHello!
I had high hopes for this week, but last week’s travel left us all with colds, and I didn’t get to write as much as I’d hoped. Instead of having four chapters ready, I only have two.
The narration is scheduled for February 12th, which means I should really finish book 9 in the next couple of weeks. That would allow time for another proper revision and editing before Travis gets it. I’m not sure how I will get that done.
I’ve made it a point the last couple of months to listen or read books as much as I can. Here is a short summary of what I listened to.
Recently I’ve finished “All the Skills” by Honor Rae. The two books that are out are very well written and the series is easily my favorite of the card-based stories.
“Induction” by Sean Oswald took a different approach to post-apocalyptic and I enjoyed it very much as well. It helps that it was narrated by Travis, who turns everything he touches into gold.
Right now, I’m finally listening to “Iron Prince” as the second book just came out. I understand now why this book created such a splash. The dialogue especially is superb, but the entire book contains top quality writing.
Our genre is really lucky to have such an abundance of quality and quantity.
I opened up chapters 52, 53, and 54 to Root.
I opened up chapters 55 and 56 to Harvester.
I added chapters 57 and 58 to Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.
Enjoy!
Thank you for supporting this series and helping me in so many ways. I appreciate you.
Take care,
AFK

Thanks for the kind words, Joe. I really appreciate them. I hope to be working smarter and harder in 2024. More details in tonight's update.

2023-12-16 02:36:31 +0000 UTCI dont think HWFWM is on Netflix. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it made it there someday. It certainly has the fans for it.

2023-12-09 13:37:59 +0000 UTCI just can't get over how hard you work. Thank you so much. These chapters that you put out weekly mean very much to me. Your story is consistently interesting and I haven't regreted waiting up late or waking up early to read the chapters yet. Thank you.

2023-12-09 07:35:42 +0000 UTCThe end of He Who Fights with Monsters 10 also left me wanting - but not in a good way. The second Iron Prince book was very enjoyable, I felt like it didn't focus so much on his growth and more on family dynamics with different families; I don't know, I just know I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. But I was happy to finally have it come out. The wait was long. I had no idea He Who Fights with Monsters was on Netflix - Thanks for the info. I only read mostly. It's good to know someone made a series out of it.

2023-12-09 07:30:14 +0000 UTCI liked the Netflix show and so I checked out the audiobooks...but that narrator was not for me. So that bummed me out a lot because I think I'd enjoy the content.

2023-12-09 03:11:32 +0000 UTCNo problem, Sam! Book two gave me a different feel than the first as well. *****SMALL SPOILERS AHEAD FOR IRON PRINCE 2***** The dialogue was excellent as was the quality of the writing. Top tier in my opinion. But there was a lot more teen drama than I enjoy, coupled with a tendency to tell the reader the outcome of an event before going on to explain it in detail. That removed a lot of tension unnecessarily. All that said, the System is great and most of the characters are done extremely well. Definitely a five star book, and a shining example of top tier writing in our genre. It gave me the powered armor itch again and I started a book called Sentinel by Anthony J Melchiorri. The writing is also excellent in this book. I actually started a Traditionaly Published book from Harper that I had to quit because I didn't think it held up in quality to what I read from indies. The narrator for that book didn't help and I'll probably give it another try sometime (it was called Misfit Soldier by Michael Mammay). Have you read anything great lately?

2023-12-08 23:31:20 +0000 UTCHey! Thanks for taking the time to comment! I hope your cold is better, and thanks for the advice. Thank you also for the kind words. I also think DotF is excellent. Just like all of us there are things authors do that I like and don't like. Brink is almost all on the good stuff and very little on the things that get to me. I was one of his Patrons for a while and also was part of Matt Dinniman's for a bit. So much awesome LitRPG out there. I think I get critical because I can't help but think about how I would have done things differently or where the authors are making mistakes (in my opinion) for many readers. Reading really helps focus me on what I like as a reader and shines a light on my own writing. Anyway, I got a little off track there. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

2023-12-03 03:10:50 +0000 UTCPs. Also got the cold. Benzonatate is amazing for reducing the cough. Not a cure, just treats the symtom but still worth it. Less coughing = less inflamed and then you getting better faster.
