I understand her motivation, and I understand that she knows about the other Axiom, which she is keeping to herself still (even though Ruwen was on his Planet, and has met him before), just in case she still has to off Ruwen. Imagine you were Ruwen, dragged into all of these situations against his will. Sure he's a good guy, but he knows Miranda is not only keeping things from him, but makes him pay (through the nose) for every bit he moves forward, and has seriously threatened to end his life on more than one occassion (one of which as I mentioned was extremely recently for him), and has actively screwed him over with payments and quests before. Miranda is not Ruwen's friend, or ally, she has her own agenda which aligns with him sometimes (and the moment Ruwen diverges from her plans by what she deems an unacceptable margin, she will try to kill him). Now Ruwen might very well thank Miranda and agree to there being a debt, and if he does, she'll probably take advantage of that and squeeze him for everything she can. Even children know to not stick their hands in the fire after getting burned the first time.

2023-11-29 04:53:34 +0000 UTCI think the books have done a good job of demonstrating Miranda's nature. She has been tremendously helpful to Ruwen and his cohort, and none of them would have achieved even a fraction of their progress without her direct contributions. She's pretty mouthy sometimes, but I simply attributed that to her age and isolation (I've encountered plenty of people who would act to benefit others while simultaneously grumbling about it. It's just a personality quirk--it doesn't make someone a bad person. I realize that I could be missing details that others see, but I've never agreed with the cynical takes on Miranda's behavior. I've disagreed with the cynical takes on Hamma and Lylan as well.

2023-11-28 21:31:06 +0000 UTCMost of this is my fault as I have far more context inside my head and it is difficult for me to remember sometimes that no one else has that. I have already written a section in the next chapter that sheds light on this topic. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and feedback. I love how invested you are with the story and characters. It really helps me make sure I keep the motivations and personalities straight. Blapy/Miranda is probably the most complicated character in the story. It is hard to balance the pragmatism (maybe even cynicism) of witnessing thousands of years of human/deity behavior, with the memories of the sacrifices she and those closest to her have made in the past, as well as the fear that might exist because Ruwen could destroy everything. And even if he succeeds that is another type of fear, as she will be free at last, which can be another type of stress after such a long time. Not to mention having to deal with a group of teenagers, two of which suffer from massive focus issues. That is just the beginning of her complicated motivations and personality, but should provide some insight into how I think about her and why she acts like she does. Which is mostly helping from behind the scenes and acting more like a stern mentor/adult then a friend. One of my favorite scenes is Blapy crying after Ruwen revealed the knowledge (Harmony) that might have saved Pen and her other friends. She carries a lot of survivor guilt. That was a lot longer than I intended, but I really do put a lot of thought into how she acts. I think her true feelings will become more and more obvious as events converge, and she is forced to change as well.

2023-11-28 19:49:20 +0000 UTCMiranda was quite literally on the fence a few days or a week or so ago in game time about whether she should kill Ruwen, and it wasn't the first time. At best she's should be treated as a neutral resource to keep at arms length until she fixes her attitude. Also the stance about not giving her any information unless she reciprocates is the correct stance. While some of my takes may be 'jaded or cynical', my take on Miranda was probably giving her too much credit. And that's me saying this from our perspective where we have many more details on what is going on than Ruwen. From his perspective it should be a far worse picture, Ruwen is just too nice and has sympathy for her because she's been locked in Penn's Divine realm for thousands of years. Since it's Ruwen he could laugh and smile as he says it. But he knows how Miranda operates, and she's a huge believer in payment and debts, so agreeing to any such unnecessary wording would be a trap and idiotic, when it's obviously the opposite. Because then he'd be stuck in debt and paying her and this organization, when they should be the one paying him.

2023-11-28 19:11:25 +0000 UTCDude, I'm very tired of your jaded and cynical takes. Can you imagine Ruwen starfield of all people telling anyone to watch their words, let alone an ally and friend. Xianxia has poisoned your brain on what healthy relationships look like. Just because Miranda is a massive tsundere does not she should be treated like an enemy.

2023-11-27 23:18:08 +0000 UTCRuwen is too nice for his own good. He's going to have to get more hard. Miranda takes advantage of any situations he can, she was trying to make Ruwen think he owed a debt when it was the complete opposite. Ruwen advanced because of a debt owed to him. The quest system also was already in place, and was a reward, not an incurring of debt. He is also a member of their chapter and him becoming a Grand Master let alone one so soon, and of Fortune are all thing the chapter should be thankful to him for , not the other way around. Ruwen should have told Miranda this, and told her to watch her words. She is being a hypocrite, and is always one to take advantage when she sees an opening, so she has no right to lecture Ruwen. Also, he should be charging her for answers about his wings. She still has too many things she is keeping from him. It's better to have something on her. I would refuse her questions, and actively hamper any way of her getting the information from other sources until she was ready to stop keeping secrets.

2023-11-25 18:07:23 +0000 UTCI hate to parse words, but I don't think "ravage" is the appropriate description for Fractal's work on Grave (ref: "Fractal had ravaged the area under Uru’s country"). Fractal certainly substantially altered the area, but it seems largely constructive in nature. I could be incorrect, but I think "ravage" is generally used purely in a destructive sense and isn't usually associated with the alterations that are part of a constructive process.
