October 28, 2023 - Update
Added 2023-10-28 07:34:09 +0000 UTCHi!
After sending out the update last week and talking about deadlines, I talked with Travis and got a better idea of the timeline. Right now, he has book 9 scheduled for Feb 12, 2024. That likely means the audio book won’t be available until early March.
That last couple of books I’ve managed to have a simultaneous release of ebook and audio. If I do that for book 9, the duration between its release and book 8 will be 8 months.
Because of this, assuming I can finish book 9 in a timely manner, the ebook will likely launch one or two months earlier than the audio. I know that will disappoint all the audio fans, but it is hard to justify holding book 9 back for so long.
Writing this week was productive, but I’m struggling to find the time to actually write. I know I’m not alone in the struggle to find balance.
I opened up chapters 37, 38, and 39 for Root.
I opened up chapters 40, 41, and 42 for Harvester. (After feedback and some thought, I’m going to change the details surrounding this conflict to make it clearer and more logical. Thank you to everyone who commented)
I added chapters 43, 44, and 45 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.
Enjoy!
Thank you for being here. It provides encouragement and helps with my writing. I appreciate you very much.
Take care,
AFK

I loved Saturday morning for the same reason. And in the afternoon there was Kung Fu theatre! Such great memories!

2023-11-18 07:03:24 +0000 UTCThank you for giving us a story that is a cut above the rest and another good reason to look forward to Friday night and Saturday morning. When I was a child, I looked forward to Saturday morning Cartoons. Now I look forward to the chapters you release.

2023-11-04 06:24:27 +0000 UTCI think this is very well said. I can't imagine saying it better. Note that I DON'T want to wait for a later release date. But, truthfully, I've been following along, anyway. The release only adds Travis' beautiful narration to the story. That's the only real new benefit I get from the releases. So, I will buy the book to support you, but I won't re-read it until I get to hear Travis perform it. I suspect a lot of us are like that. But note that there are other fans that are like that but are NOT on Patreon.

2023-10-28 14:22:34 +0000 UTCDo you as the author make more profit on audiobook sales compared to other formats? If yes, then I’d recommend waiting so you can continue releasing the book in both physical and audio formats simultaneously. There’s two reasons for this: 1. If the audio isn’t available then you’re gonna have listeners who begrudgingly just take another format instead of waiting. I did this for a series just last week… and I’m still kinda bummed out about having had to read it myself instead of listening to a narrator bring the characters to life for me… but I’m not gonna go back and get the audio later. I’ve moved on to the next story already. 2. It seems less “legitimate/professional” of a release for the audio option to be missing. The big publishers like Tor Books, Random House and Simon and Schuster always put out the audio at the same time. You’ll never see a Stephen King or Brandon Sanderson novel being released with the audio coming later. I know that 2nd point might not seem like it matters, but perception will influence people’s subconscious biases… and if you want to be a big time author that lives solely off their writing… you need to put more effort into the business and publishing side of your books. Your content, the writing itself, is so good! Like amazingly good! Better than most other fantasy authors out there! Though your marketing and branding strategies are weak… and splitting the audio and physical releases won’t do you any favours there.
