I had another good week of recovery and I’m doing great, although moving a little slow. Next week I hope to regain the momentum I’d built before the surgery.
The chapters I just released turned out harder to write than I anticipated. Every Friday, I do an editing pass on the chapters beforehand, and usually the chapters don’t need much fixing. The chapters tonight, however, integrated information and experiences from books three and seven.
We all love the complexity and richness of the world, but it comes with a steep price. Remembering everything and remaining consistent as much as possible, becomes harder with every book release. It is why some authors do short series, or are always writing book ones in new series. Those books are a breeze because you can do whatever you want and not break any world building. It’s glorious.
But that is not where we are. It was manageable before, but it has become obvious to me lately, especially as I start integrating items from much earlier in the series, that I am not doing as good a job as I want.
Thankfully, you are there for me. I love the questions that get asked, the clarifications, the debates as it forces me to dredge up thoughts, notes, and spreadsheets three or four years old. I just can’t keep the whole story in my head anymore. I haven’t for a long time actually. It means I forget important things I wanted to do sometimes.
Thankfully, on my edit today, I realized I’d left out an entire section relating to a conversation Ruwen had with a mysterious swamp figure. That created a lot more rewriting than typical, and the chapters probably won’t be as clean because of it.
I opened up chapters 25, 26, and 27 for Root.
I opened up chapters 28, 29, and 30 for Harvester.
I added chapters 31, 32, and 33 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.
