I believe his entity body was still covered in layers of harmony

Tyler S.

I’m a little confused, Ruwen is at angel level fortification and the gods he’s fighting are all peak diety. How is he able to vaporize one of their heads with just a punch? Wouldn’t that be like a newly jade level cultivator hurting a peak diamond? I didn’t think that was possible. It says his ascendancy combined with his fortification did it, but 50-60 levels of strength doesn’t seem like enough to bridge that gap. Did he use Harmony somehow to do it?

Porter Robinson

I agree you don't need to tell us everything at every point. It does a good job showing where ruewn is still scatterbrained as well as prove he is still human. Also it gives something for maranda to mock ruewn for :)

Nick Pincus

Ruwen destroyed one of Haffa's meridians. What happens when a Divine Being goes under 7 meridians? Do they keep their Divine body, or their Architect Role? What about their followers? Maybe nothing happens they are just weaker now.

Jake Schmitt

Chaotic Evil, is evil for the sake of Evil. I don't think Lalquinrial is that, he just has some seriously misguided ideas. He's very old, and he seems like he's used to thinking he was the smartest person in any room, and no one else sees what he sees. And he's at a point where he's willing to risk a lot to prove a point. If he was Chaotic Evil, he wouldn't be trying to prove a point or reach a goal that he thought would be an improvement, he's just be doing stuff for the heck of it.

No need for additional content for Book 8--it's excellent as written. Besides, I'll never run out of questions; I always have some random line of inquiry rattling around in my head. Also, the unanswered questions are what keep me reaching for the next chapter or the next book.

Wow everyone, fantastic discussions!!!!! I love it. Part of me wishes I had addressed some of this at the end of book 8. It is in the prologue and chapter 1 of book 9 though. I will say that I've mentioned multiple times throughout the series that the Material Realm poses danger to the deities which is why they rarely risk going there. If I could, I would go back and add a sentence or two, but it's too late as the audio is already done. Thanks for all the feedback. I look forward to the same on the book 9 initial chapters.

I gave this a bit more thought...Given that the deities sustained damage to their Meridians, it seems that "clones" are ruled out. Haffa also tried to harvest Ruwen's core, which I also don't think a clone would be able to manage. Also, my statement about the spirit dissipating into the surroundings is probably incorrect given that cores retain their size/shape after they are formed into a Möbius strip. I'd still expect the core to be large enough to register in some way though, for the same logic you lay out with Pen's core being the size of a planet with his meridians the size of moons.

Asheron Wilder

Very good question. I hadn't thought about what the left-over cores would look like, but, if I understand correctly, Pen must have solidified his core before dying in order for so much terium to exist on Grave. Since the attacking deities likely had not done so, it seems that their cores would have dissipated Spirit to the surrounding area (which would have been waaay into the "observable" category, given that they are deities). In either case, you'd expect a very observable outcome. I thought the deities could have utilized clones. I assume Ruwen kept the bodies (he seems to have a penchant for doing so), in which case he should find out by either harvesting the cores, feeding the bodies to Fractal and/or Lir, or some other such means. Clones would probably dissolve after taking that much damage though--I'm unsure. This is a bit of a tangent, but I'm a fan of the "feeding them to Fractal" plot line, since it will provide the Keeper with both power and knowledge (recall from Book 2 that Fractal said "Spirit dense. Interesting skills might know" when Ruwen asked him if the assassin's body would do him any good.). Maybe we'll find out in Book 9!

Asheron Wilder

I agree, we've been told before deities are entirely constructs of their soul, so just squashing their brain seems like not enough to secure a kill

Karatelax

They're attacking because they knew that if ruwen became a deity he would be able to defeat them all. They also know Miranda is occupied trying to keep the Black Pyramid from exploding. Jokes on them he's already a deity 😂

Karatelax

Are we sure those two gods are dead. Gem bodies didn't need oxygen to survive maybe Divine bodies can take an extreme beating. The only reason I question it is because when Harvesters die the spirit in their core is forced out like when Pen died he made Grave I know he was an Axiom so his core was larger but wouldn't a Peak Deity God with a core that I assume would be pretty full at least create some hills and a lake or something

Jake Schmitt

Lalquinrial is chaotic evil, not chaotic good.

Bob of Doom

They fear being massively out classed and losing power if ruewn got to a divine rank. They are to late.

Nick Pincus

Not quite the usual cliff hanger. But fantastic job on these 3 chapters ww now have allot more info on who was affected by the pact.

Dustin Sago

The fights are good, but maybe I'm missing something here. I feel like we should understand why the gods are all attacking. They can't all just be simple minded minions...which is what it feels like.

Kit

I think the Intel might work in Ruben's favor. lalquinral isn't pure chaos. He's more chaotic good, than not. Might just be wishful thinking, but we'll see.

Kit

Yes but blapy very much is and breaking the pact is a detect insult to her. Also they did attack him and his people he is not forgiving that.

Nick Pincus

Yeah, I'm not sure why he didn't kill Nameless earlier.

Pannath

Thanks, AFK. This stuff's gold!!!

Joe

I suspect he went home. He's one of those that had a "recall" card. Smart. Unfortunately. He has too much intel on Ruwen.

Joe

Too bad Ruwen isn't a blood thirsty sort. I think he'll only go after those that come after him.

Joe

Not sure how many gods exist but I think the pact is fully desolved. Also I don't think you can run from an axim with the smear and all. Grave will soon be at peace. Only 4 gods will likely live thu this, lalquinrial, uru, ruewn and maranda.

Nick Pincus

Just a note, the god tried to harvest Ruwen's spirit, and Ruwen just killed 2. They were likely quite full on spirit. Ruwen should be able to harvest that to top himself up... hopefully before the other 3 try to. Amazing fight... wonder where Lalquinrial went.
