2023-04-15 07:11:33 +0000 UTCFirst I’m excited that Ruwen can use spirt safely again by staying within his manna range. I thought that was amazingly smart with him getting over powered with spirit while stuck in space. Taking that away completely after dominating in the infernal realm was smart. That way he has to grow in other ways and was unable to protect his new friends. Now we get a small portion of that back and Ruwen can take an instant shower and dry his clothes before an important meeting. I don’t understand the comment that Ruwen needs to stop whining. I never hear Ruwen whine. He always takes responsibility, perhaps to much. Maybe Asheron is upset by the turmoil and stress Ruwen is feeling and is calling that whining? I agree with Kelly that I live these characters and this world and book six annoyed me with how long we spent away from them in space training. I didn’t need that many details on how he learned to do everything. For me I would have preferred skipping this part of his journey the same way we skipped the four years of mastering step training in his head with Rammy. I was so glad when his friends were back and we were in Shelly. I’ve been waiting for books and books now for Ruwen to play that game with Bliz! I also can’t wait for a real spar with Chip, I’m so excited that it finally came back up. There is so little time. Im fascinated with the idea that the city is in trouble and Ruwen has to try and fix that, and he doesn’t have much time. If you have watched parks and Rec then you know that a group of people agreeing on turning a small lot into a park can take years. It seems to me that this story is gearing up to introduce voting into the mix and I find that funny and fascinating. Also I can’t wait to explore more of fractal and for Sift to advance to the gems (I think that’s what it’s called, the place past peak gold). I think dealing with all of these smaller problems while copping with the fact that all the gods want to kill him brings balance. I didn’t expect to jump into the step challenge immediately after getting back but I thought that was surprising and genius. I never can guess what’s coming next. I do agree with a comment I read earlier that I would like a few chapters from other perspectives now and then. I’m dying to find out if Lylan got Blappy to give her the bakery concession yet. Also when is Ruwen going to go clean more stuff!!! That’s killing me. Last thing.... sorry for the long post. Before I read that people didn’t like the shift quests but i love them! I think Shift is getting underestimated. I’m excited to see his future.

2023-03-26 02:13:08 +0000 UTCWhile I sincerely respect all opinions and understand we all have different experiences that form our perspectives, I am somewhat baffled by the view that Ruwen is "whining" and needs to "grow up" and learn to make hard choices. Ruwen is still essentially a boy. A boy with unfathomable capabilities and potential, but still a boy. Furthermore, he has been burdened with insane responsibilities and horrendous experiences that would make the strongest of us crumble mentally and emotionally. I personally know incredible individuals who have served in military roles, one of which in special operations. PTSD is a real and quite common burden for those who have experienced heavy combat and other highly stressful situations, such as surviving. I respect A. F. for expanding his exploration of the emotional and mental trauma Ruwen has clearly experienced and will continue to experience. It is simply not plausible that Ruwen could continue unless he obtains the required support to help him heal and ongoing support to remain healthy. That is what good writers do -- explore all of the flaws and challenges of the characters we love. Otherwise, Ruwen would simply deteriorate into yet another over-powered hero unrealistically immune to the effects of tragedy and magically resistant to the crippling pressure of obvious overwhelming responsibility. I sincerely hope A. F. continues to develop as a writer, which he obviously has to date, and gift us with those precious insights into the pain, joy, failures, triumphs, love, and, ultimately, the ongoing growth of these wonderful characters.

2023-03-19 15:17:41 +0000 UTCI agree, although I think my limits got hit when we had an entire book dedicated to training in space, then almost another entire book also training in Step. Having more personal growth within the two books dedicated to pure training and mostly fighting could have made more sense. I love this series for the world building, and when I was so exited to get back to the other characters after all the time spent alone in space, and we got an entire book (minus some infernal realm) that was just slugging through lessons he already knew, protecting people that eventually died, all in the name of learning lessons him and Sift had basically mastered, only for this book to continue to feel like Ruwen hasn’t learned anything from his trials.

2023-03-19 01:24:42 +0000 UTCThanks for the feedback, Asheron! I will try and pay attention to this as Ruwen grows/matures. This is a hard balance to get right, but it is good to know I have hit your frustration limits.

2023-03-14 21:36:54 +0000 UTCWhile I really like this series and the chapters as a whole, I am starting to get a little tired of Ruwen's constant whining. It's time for our boy to grow up and accept that he has to make some hard choices. Not everything will turn out correctly, and yes people will get hurt, and even die. Ruwen is a god. He either embraces it and does the best that he can at the time, Failure to make a decision, is a making one.
