One of the reasons I love writing this series is the theme of balance. While it is everywhere in the series, book seven is thick with it, as the focus is on the Master’s trial. As we enter the last act of book seven, and I near some of the most powerful scenes in the novel, balance is especially on my mind.
Part of that comes from a book I read a long long time ago, and while the details escape me, there was a small section where the narrator moved from group to group in some type of diverse force. While each group wildly differed from the others in skills and expertise, they all had the same secret at the heart of their power: balance.
I loved that so much. The concept stuck with me and I’ve spent seven books exploring it, with maybe that many more yet to go.
…scales, the physical balance needed for the Bamboo Viper Steps, the internal balance of emotions, the balance between right and wrong, good and bad, justice and mercy. And let’s not forget the ultimate balance the Third and Fourth Secret represent. It goes on and on…
I thought about that theme this week as I struggled, like all of us do, to find that healthy balance we need. It seems so easy to tip the scales one way or the other. Finding balance seems impossible sometimes.
I think that’s why I like Ruwen so much. He’s desperately trying to find balance, and that resonates with me.
On another note, once again, I didn’t post the Hamma chapters on Wednesday. I apologize for that and will try to do better. In addition, there are many comments I haven’t responded to yet, but I plan to rectify that this weekend.
I opened up chapters 46, 47, and 48 to Root.
I opened up chapters 49, 50, and 51 to Harvester.
I added chapters 52, 53, and 54 to Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, and Divine.
Enjoy!
Thank you for being here and supporting this story. I appreciate you so much.
Take care,

2022-12-04 18:21:10 +0000 UTCYour explorations of the theme of balance are wonderful and captivating. I love every time Ruwen stumbles upon some new insight and I always feel some variation of “oh wow! I never thought of it that way before!” Like with the vortices and currents in today’s master trials, or when Ruwen originally discovered the balance of force with his shed out in space.
