May 14, 2022 - Update
Added 2022-05-14 06:46:15 +0000 UTCHello!
This week forced me out of my normal routine, as I traveled for work to Washington, DC, a city I’d never visited. I really enjoyed my time there and look forward to going back. It was the first time I met my team, as we all work remote, and it was fun to hang out in person.
I’ve talked before how the new job has created a significant hurdle to my productivity as the challenges there consumed much of my brain. While work remained incredibly busy, the long flight there provided me an opportunity to write.
I am almost certain now we will break one hundred chapters, and it is possible the word count might pass The Fourth Secret. During the portions of the flight and car ride where I couldn’t use my laptop to write, I used my phone to work on the anthology short story. The story is coming out a little rough, but I have high hopes for it after it goes through a revision or two. I’m finding it very refreshing to write from another Point of View. I can’t wait to share it with you.
Enough of all that.
I opened up chapters 81, 82, and 83 to Root.
I opened up chapters 84, 85, and 86 to Harvester.
I added chapters 87, 88, and 89 to Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, and Divine.
Enjoy!
We crossed 250 Patrons this week. It makes me so happy to know you are out there supporting this story from all over the world. I started this series as a story for me, and as something I would want to read. To find you, a kindred spirit, that enjoys the story as much I do, fills me with joy. Thank you so much.
Take care,
AFK

I see. That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

2022-05-21 08:14:46 +0000 UTCI see your point. As they say in Star Wars: "Your feelings serve you well," as is evident by your great instincts in writing this story so far. If that's what your spidy senses are telling you, I think you are wise to trust them. After all, isn't that why you have them? I am just glad you decided to write at all.

2022-05-21 07:43:29 +0000 UTCThank you Dusty and Jessica! I responded to Joe above on what I was trying to get across. I thought about ending the book earlier, but I spent sooooo long in the training portion early in the book, that I felt like the end of this book deserved special attention. Unfortunately, the length got away from me a little. But if I stopped at chapter 82 it would feel like I cheated the readers out of some necessary plot development.

2022-05-21 05:56:12 +0000 UTCI appreciate that a lot. I think what I am trying to say is that I would rather have three books at a 110k words than two books at 180k. Having so long between releases hurts the series and makes it harder for people to find it. I appreciate all of you who suggest the story to others.

2022-05-21 05:53:37 +0000 UTCAre you my twin? I completely agree with all of that! Also, the cliffhanger brought me here as well.

2022-05-21 04:34:51 +0000 UTCAFK- I think Joe in the earlier post hit the nail on the head. Your readers aren’t going to be upset that the book isn’t 50 hours long. When you released chapter 82, I thought to myself, this is the end of book six and expected the next chapter released to be the prologue. In my mind it just felt right. Just like when Ruwen stepped into the portal in the death ring and ended up in the darkness of space, it left a cliffhanger. Then the prologue saw Blapy contacting the group or a possibility of rescuing Ruwen. That totally engaged me and left me wanting the next book, AND lead me to your patreon page because I couldn’t wait for the next book and just had to know what happened next. Now obviously I’m no author, and I wouldn’t presume to tell you how to do things; but if it were me, I’d end the book there and push everything else into book seven.

2022-05-14 12:54:56 +0000 UTCAFK - I will be honest with you - I think most of us won't mind the word count or the number of chapters the book ends up being. Do people complain because you give them more of what they love? So, I'm just thinking you should keep on doing the great job you're doing and not worry too much about the number of chapters. Most of us don't mind one way or another - we just want the best story you can write. I was listening to Brandon Sanderson's lecture the other day on writing; He says that jobs that don't take up your mindspace too much make great companions to writing. It's interesting to hear you say your new job has that sort of draining impact on your productivity. You were right. That guy knows his stuff. I am glad you like your new gig. I just keep hoping the day will come when you can simply write and let the world take care of itself! 🤣🤣 I know that's a little selfish of me, so sue me! LOL. Anyway! I just wanted to say thank you. It's been a great book so far. I am just waiting now to see how you finish book 6.
