The point of Ascendancy is surrounding the soul so when someone dies the gods can keep the soul whole, and place it in another body made from normal stuff. That seed is what recreates the spiritual network of its owner. At least that is the narrative inside my head.

Create life, create whole suns and solar systems. Create just about any substance in the universe. And yet . . . she couldn't re-create the substance needed to operate on Ruwen? There's a question here that's begging for an answer.
