Interesting! I always thought it was air friction due to the speed. I'll look into the compression idea. Thanks!

2022-02-05 03:09:15 +0000 UTCIm going to be a science geek here and say that friction isn't what makes reentry hot, it's the compression of the atmosphere infront of the fast moving object. (It was on QI a few years ago)
