It has been another eventful week for the series. Audible released the second book less than two weeks after the first. It is rare to "rapid release" audio but I'm thankful it happened since the cliff hanger in book one was brutal. Being able to "hear" what happens in the audio sample of book two should calm the angry mobs. I'm super happy and excited that the books are finally available in audio.
I have been trying to get the series more visibility. I'm doing ads on Amazon but have avoided Facebook. Lately, I've been trying to rectify this which is why AFK now has a Facebook page (@afkauthor). My next step was trying to advertise, which is where I hit a brick wall.
I thought it would be easy. I would make a quick fancy ten second ad and be advertising in no time. Two days of effort later I still didn't have a video ad. I did learn two things. One, there are a lot of people selling crap on how to market on the internet. Two, the people who make those video ads have a real skill set that takes a unique blend of creativity and tech-know-how. My hat's off to any of you who do this.
The chapters this week have a lot of stuff I hadn't planned on revealing until later books. It felt right to do it here though. It makes me a little nervous, but I'm reminded of some advice from Brandon Sanderson who said something like "don't save any cool stuff for later books. Put it all in the current one." So, I'll blame Sanderson. Of course, some of it will just be a validation of things you've already figured out. Foreshadowing is hard, and my interactions with the fans of this series lead me to believe you all are much smarter than the average reader. I'm interested in everyone's reactions.
I've opened up chapters 28, 29, and 30 to Root.
I've opened up chapters 31, 32, and 33 to Harvester.
I've added chapters 34, 35, and 36 to Step Master and above.
