November 9, 2019 - Update
Added 2019-11-09 18:01:50 +0000 UTCGreetings all! I hope your week went well. For me, work finally calmed down a little, and I've been extra focused on my writing. That is mostly due to NaNoWriMo, and my desire to write 50k words this month (at least).
Something that is common with almost any creative endeavor is the harshness of our inner critic. I am very familiar with mine and know all his tricks. This week he had a lot of fuel as I listened to a podcast about a woman who writes 3k words an hour. An hour! While my first drafts are clean (well at least I think so, you are reading them so you're a better judge) I write at around 500 words an hour. In addition, many of my fellow authors are full time, and their release schedule makes me envious. A book a month (or even faster) is amazing productivity and something I wish I could replicate.
But the worst this week for me was concern over the pacing of the early part of this book. Now I know this is just my inner critic trying to stall the progress I've made. In addition, now isn't even the time to be worrying about this. If necessary, I'll cut scenes in a future draft to speed up the pace. But it adds fuel to the fire.
I guess I am telling you these things for two reasons. One, reading the chapters here is like a director's cut of a movie. You get all the things the creator wanted to add. And two, writing them here gives me added perspective and power over the inner critic. It is like drinking a potion of fortitude.
So, in addition to the support you've already provided for this story, you help in this way as well. And I thank you for that.
