046 - The 61st Academy Awards (EXCURSION - Turbulent Brilliance)
Added 2025-06-20 07:00:07 +0000 UTCFor this month's excursion, we're recapping another awards show and for the first time, it's an Oscar ceremony! But it's not just any Oscar ceremony, it's the notorious one produced by Allan Carr for the films of 1988. Topics include the much maligned opening number starring Snow White and Rob Lowe, the somehow even worse "I Wanna Be An Oscar Winner" number, Billy Crystal's bit that helped him land his first hosting gig, all the winners and presenters, and everything else in between!

I delight in repeat viewings of the Allan Carr Oscars opening number, unhinged trainwreck though it may be. Fascinating to see such creativity so wildly miss the mark.

2025-06-28 05:35:46 +0000 UTCI came into this thinking that the Rob Low SnowWhite bit was just a brief, awkward interaction before reading nominees. My eyes were opened and I truly would like to know what Glenn Close was thinking at that extravagazana of (Beauty & the Beast-inspired? Tropical club mush-mash? I don’t know) kitsch. Love that Lily Tomlin was like, “umm…ok.”
