I forget who it was, but someone not long after they died (and were buried next to each other in Westminster Abbey, BTW) said that if only Early Modern England had same-sex marriage, all their problems could have been solved. Again, heterosexual patriarchy is a curse and a scourge. Mary was Queen of France for a while and grew up in the French court, so either she'd have had a straight-up French accent, or some bizarre French-spoken-with-a-Scottish-burr accent. Can you IMAGINE Saoirse trying that one out?!
