HOW to get into Jazz - Repertoire
Added 2023-12-16 23:09:58 +0000 UTCHey guys,
I'd like to share my approach to playing jazz music, regardless of your current skill level or previous musical background, but especially for people like me, playing metal too.
First of all, I want to share my repertoire, a list of jazz standards I've used for learning and consistent practice. Whether you're just starting to delve into jazz or are a seasoned player, these standards are great for working on your improvisation, songwriting or fretboard visualisation skills.
The sheets are attached to this post but you can easily find all of them by searching for the PDFs online too.
How to get started:
1. Begin by listening to the original recording, then explore different versions on Spotify or YouTube.
2. Analyze the chords.
3. Analyze the melody/theme.
4. Learn the chords and explore various voicings.
5. Practice playing the melody with the chords together; Joe Pass is a big inspiration for these kind of chord melodies. But if you look for more inspiration you will find plenty of other versions on YouTube by searching for them.
6. Start improvising over the chord changes, taking it step by step. This phase typically takes the most time and effort. But I will cover that in future posts.
If you have questions about it, let me know in the comments!

Thank you so much for sharing! Killer! Now I will only need more time to practice :) and analyze...
