Video recording gear

I want to give you some insight into how I record myself on video. Trust me, I used to struggle with this a lot in the past, but I learned by simply doing it repeatedly. The most important thing is lighting; I use two softboxes placed in front of me on both the right and left sides. I've experimented with various cameras, such as GoPro, Canon, and other digital cameras, but I consistently achieve the best results with my iPhone recording in 4K. For ""talking"" audio, I use a clip microphone from Rode, which I attach to my guitar strap or clothing, connected to my iPhone.

Simultaneously, I record my guitar through my studio setup, which includes a MOTU audio interface, Mac Mini, Cubase, etc. Later, I synchronize the audio and video using Final Cut Pro. Currently, I'm in the process of learning how to color grade to enhance the video's quality, and I make necessary cuts if required.

Are you into video recording at all? If so, do you have any tips or insights to share?

It is really time consuming! It takes months to prepare it. Starting with practice, video and audio recording (building up all the lights, cameras, background, making test shots for different angles, audio setup, interface, monitors, etc...), audio editing, video editing, etc... It usually takes a whole day just to build everything up. All the Obscura playthroughs back then I did all with the help of my brother but unfortunately he is quite busy now so for the Bound by Fire playthrough I hired someone else and I rented a cool location to shoot it. And the setup I just posted here is kind of new since this year. With this setup I can do most of the stuff on my own.

Thank you for sharing your insight. I do not have any experience with video recording. When I saw your Diluvium playthrough first I asked myself how much work shooting the video must have been involved. All in all I imagine it's a very time-consuming process. By the way: the lighting in Bound By Fire is great! If I recall correctly, your brother helps you shoot the vids from time to time? I guess it's all about a good team...

In Final Cut Pro, there is an option to synchronize multiple tracks (it is essential that the video also contains audio). Typically, it works very well. Occasionally, you may need to make a minor adjustment by aligning the audio a few milliseconds before or after the video. However, as I mentioned, it usually falls into place perfectly. I'm pretty sure most Video Cut software have the similar tools.

How is the process of syncing audio and video? Is there a special unique point in the video and audio files?
