DW DXD Chapter 1 Remastered Dimensional Watch

November 17th, Monday – 9:00 PM
Kouh town’s Park (Six months before Canon)

The autumn night was quiet. The streetlamps flickered faintly at the edge of Kouh’s park, their light spilling across empty sidewalks. The air was cool and damp, carrying the smell of fallen leaves and the faint rustle of branches swaying overhead. The park was deserted, save for the hurried footsteps of a lone boy cutting across the worn stone path.

Hyoudou Issei, average high schooler and full-time pervert, sprinted with a frantic energy born from panic. His short spiky brown hair bounced with each stride, sweat dripping down his forehead despite the chill.

“Damn it,” He muttered between breaths, his tone more whiny than guilty. “I spent way too much time watching porn at Matsuda’s house. Mom’s gonna kill me! No, she’s gonna worry herself sick first and then kill me when I walk in.”

He winced at the thought. His mom’s scolding wasn’t something he wanted to face, not when his excuse would boil down to “I got distracted by my idiot friend’s hidden stash of JAV.”

Issei slowed slightly, his eyes flicking across the park’s empty walkway, the faint gleam of the fountain’s water catching the moonlight. His chest heaved. ‘If I cut through here, maybe I’ll shave off a few minutes… hopefully enough to dodge getting grounded.’

But just as he was about to pass the last line of trees, a sudden streak tore across the heavens, a white stream of light.

At first, Issei didn’t notice—his mind too wrapped in thoughts of what his punishment would be. But when the light grew brighter, cutting through the night sky like a blade of fire, his gaze snapped upward.

“What the… a shooting star?” He whispered, his feet slowing to a stop.

The boy’s eyes widened, his earlier anxiety forgotten. Somewhere beneath the layers of perversion, he was still a kid who believed in wishes. Grinning, he pressed his palms together in mock prayer and squeezed his eyes shut. “I wish for a harem… a harem full of busty onee-sans!”

He opened one eye, peeking up at the streaking light. Instead of fading away like every other meteor he had ever seen, this one lingered. It shimmered, burning bright white, then dipped suddenly, as though the heavens had decided to hurl it directly at him.

“…Wait.” The light veered again, not fading, not shrinking but instead approaching. “…Wait, wait, wait—”

The stream of brilliance wasn’t descending randomly. It was changing direction. Homing in.

Issei’s breath caught in his throat. “Why is it? Why is it coming this way?! Oh crap! Oh crap oh crap oh crap!”

He spun on his heel and bolted, his sneakers pounding the pavement. The glow behind him grew brighter, shadows stretching long and sharp across the park as though the moon itself had begun to chase him. “Why meee?!” He shouted, half-pleading, half-screaming.

The light drew closer, its brilliance swallowing the night. He glanced over his shoulder and saw it barreling straight toward him, unstoppable.

“Shit, faster, run faster!” His lungs burned, his legs pumping as if his very life depended on it. Which, at this moment, it probably did. Just as he was about to break through the edge of the park’s path, his foot caught on a raised root jutting through the earth.

“—Gahhh!”

Issei pitched forward, sprawling face-first onto the cold ground. Pain shot through his palms and knees, but fear overwhelmed all else. He scrambled upright, stumbling backward onto his ass as the blazing light descended directly over him.

He raised his arms over his face, squeezing his eyes shut.

The world erupted in white. The park trembled, leaves tearing free from branches, the fountain’s water splashing high into the air as a shockwave rippled out. For one long moment, it felt as though the entire sky had crashed into Kouh Park.

And then—silence.

The searing brilliance began to dim. Slowly, Issei dared to lower his arms. He blinked against the fading afterglow, his breath ragged.

Somehow… he was still alive.

“Energy life source found.

Organic life form detected.

Species: Human.

Beginning synchronization with body and soul.

10%… 25%…”

The voice was clear, feminine, and mechanical. And it was coming from… his wrist.

Issei’s head snapped down, eyes widening at the sight of a strange device now attached to his right arm. It resembled a watch—if watches were forged from sleek, alien technology and glowing lines of blue light.

“What the hell…” He whispered, the words trembling out of him as his heartbeat pounded in his ears.

“50%… 80%… ERROR.

The host currently possesses an unidentified entity within the soul. The left arm contains an anomaly.

Classification: Draconian in nature.

Anomaly does not appear to be hostile.

Would the host like to start a connection?”

Issei’s eyes bulged at the information, wondering what the fuck was going on. ‘An unidentified entity? Draconian? He didn’t even know what “draconian” meant in this context, but it sounded like bad news. His breathing was fast and shallow, his pulse hammering against his ribs. The glowing watch hummed softly against his skin, like a heartbeat that wasn’t his.

He swallowed hard, brain whirling but mouth acting on autopilot. “Y-Yes!” he blurted.

“Understood. Attempting connection…”

The band on his wrist tightened slightly, sending a faint vibration up his arm.

“Warning,” The feminine voice intoned, still maddeningly calm. “The host is currently too weak, both spiritually and physically to attempt a connection. The attempt could cause damage to the host and likely lead to death. Finding different solutions…”

Issei’s jaw dropped. “Wait, what?! Death?! I didn’t—”

“Solution found. Would the host like the Watch to absorb the natural life energy from the surrounding area and transfer it to the host’s spiritual energy?”

Issei blinked at the glowing screen, his fear and confusion colliding. ‘Natural life energy? Spiritual energy? What is this, an anime?’

“Sure…” He said, the word slipping out more as a reflex than an actual decision. He had no clue what any of this meant, only that the voice sounded like it had a plan.

“Understood. Starting absorption of natural energy.”

A faint hum built in the air around him. “What are you?” Issei finally asked, the question escaping his lips before he could stop it. His voice sounded small in the empty park.

The device didn’t answer immediately. Instead, the world around him began to change.

Issei’s eyes darted to the grass at his feet. The rich green grass was paling, curling in on themselves. The flowers planted near the path drooped as their color faded. Trees swayed though no wind blew, their leaves turning brittle before his eyes.

Tiny motes of green light, like glowing fireflies and rose from the withering plants, floating upward in lazy spirals before arcing toward him.

“W-What the hell…” He whispered, backing up a step, but the glow followed.

The particles streamed into his body through his chest and arms, a soft rush of warmth flooding his veins. It wasn’t painful; it was… invigorating. The cold of the November night vanished. His muscles felt lighter, stronger, as though someone had poured sugar straight into his bones.

Within seconds, the lush area around him was reduced to a withered circle ten feet across with dead grass, brittle flowers, a ring of dark earth like a scar in the park. But inside that ring, Issei stood upright, trembling but alive, his breath coming in sharp gasps.

And then the voice spoke again, a faint echo of satisfaction in its tone.

“Transfer complete.”

Issei blinked, sweat rolling down his temple. His heart still raced, but his limbs buzzed with energy. He felt like he could run a marathon without breaking a sweat, like he could leap over the park’s fountain in a single bound.

“What… what is happening to me?” He murmured, staring down at the glowing watch as it pulsed faintly. The glow on his wrist intensified, the symbols scrolling faster as the calm voice returned.

“The host has acquired sufficient power to initiate a connection with the other soul within the body. Please note: while the host’s spiritual energy is now adequate, the host’s physical body remains weak and may not be able to handle the stress.”

Issei’s stomach twisted. “Other… soul?” he echoed under his breath. “What the hell is even in my body?! And what even are you?!”

“Answering the host’s inquiry. I am an Artificial Intelligence designed to assist and advise the current user of the Dimensional Watch. An all-purpose device created to make world traveling easier.”

Issei stared at the glowing face of the watch, his brain trying to process words that sounded like they belonged in a science-fantasy anime.

“Connection starting in 10… 9… 8…” The symbols pulsed in rhythm with the countdown, casting pale light across his face.

“What? Wait, hold on—World travel? Dimensional Watch?” He rubbed his forehead with his free hand. “You’re talking about, like… jumping between worlds, aren’t you?”

“Correct. Traveling the distance between time and space,” The AI replied smoothly, “Connecting the dimensions needed to cross over the boundaries between planes of existence and creating a gate making it possible to go to another world. That is the Dimensional Watch’s purpose.”

“And do you have a name?” Issei asked.

“Currently, I do not have an identity. 7… 6… 5…”

Issei blinked rapidly at the stream of technical-mystical jargon. “You’re kidding me…” Then, more softly, “You… don’t have a name?”

“I do not understand.”

“A name,” He said, his voice cracking between disbelief and instinctive kindness. “You know. Something to call you by. Like people have names. Things with personalities. Everyone deserves one.”

“That is unnecessary. I do not require an identity to function.”

“That’s not true,” Issei said, shaking his head. His panic gave way to a flicker of stubbornness. “Even an AI should have a name. Even if you’re… some super watch from space or whatever. Look, my name’s Hyoudou Issei.” He tapped his chest, then the watch. “And your name… can be Sherri.”

The device paused. For the first time, the scrolling glyphs hesitated as though processing something new.

“Understood. Host identity now recorded as Hyoudou Issei.

AI from now on identified as Sherri.

3… 2… 1… Connection complete.

Now awakening the draconian soul.”

A low hum built in Issei’s left arm, and suddenly a flash of red light blazed across his skin. He gasped, jerking his arm up as crimson scales rippled into existence and then solidified into a massive gauntlet — red metal bristling with gold spikes, a green gem glowing on the back of his hand like a dragon’s eye.

He stared at it, jaw slack, heart pounding. “What the…”

A low rumble then vibrated through Issei’s left arm. Before Issei could even react, it erupted, not as a threatening roar but as a long, lazy yawn that echoed in the empty park.

(WAAAAH…)

The sound was halfway between a dragon’s growl and a bored cat stretching after a nap. Both Issei and the AI went completely still.

“W-What the hell was that?!” Issei yelped, staring at the massive red gauntlet covering his arm.

(Huh… I woke up earlier than I expected.)

The voice wasn’t coming from the watch this time. It was deep, resonant, and rolled through the air like thunder in a cave.

(Damn, I got lucky this time. My host’s got some good reserves. His body’s a little weak, but nothing a little training can’t fix.)

Issei’s mouth dropped open. “Who are you calling weak, you lazy dragon?!” He snapped, pointing with his free hand at the gauntlet. He had no idea why his first reaction was to argue back, but being insulted twice in a row did that to him.

Sherri’s soft digital hum rose on his right wrist. “Alert: unidentified voice source detected on left arm.”

The dragon chuckled low in his head.

(Well I’ll be. You can already hear me. I really did get lucky this time. You even knew I was a dragon. Tell me — with your reserves, are you a magician?)

Issei blinked, his expression blank. “Uh… what?” he said out loud, staring at the gem embedded in the gauntlet. He didn’t even know how to answer. He was a horny high schooler, not a wizard.

(Alright, guess not.) The voice sounded amused rather than disappointed. (That’s fine. I’ll have to explain everything then.) The green gem on the gauntlet pulsed once, like a slow heartbeat. (Listen up, partner. I am Ddraig — the Heavenly Red Dragon Emperor. The Welsh Dragon.)

The words sent a shiver down Issei’s spine. The name thrummed in his skull with weight, like an ancient bell being struck.

On his right wrist, Sherri’s voice returned, crisp and matter-of-fact:

“Understood. Unknown entity now identified as Ddraig.

Species: Dragon. Currently locked inside the host, Issei Hyoudou.

Resuming registration

90%… 100%…

Registration and connection complete. From now on, you are my master.”

Issei blinked, whipping his gaze between his right wrist and his left arm. “Master? What—wait, what do you mean master?!”

The dragon gave a low, satisfied rumble. (Hoo… that’s an interesting toy you’ve got there, partner.)

Issei stared at the strange watch on his right arm and the massive crimson gauntlet on his left. Between the glowing watch, the dragon’s voice, and the dead patch of park around him, his brain finally threw up its hands.

“Yeah, that’s cool and all,” He said, his tone flat with exasperation, “but I have a better question.” He raised both arms, the watch glinting on one wrist, the gauntlet humming faintly on the other. “Why the hell are you both attached to my arms?”

The AI answered first, calm as ever. “Understood. Finding the answer.

Answer found: I followed the inventor’s orders and found a suitable host to attach to and bring into your life as, he said, ‘comedy and entertainment.’”

Issei blinked. “Comedy and entertainment?” he repeated slowly. Then his face twisted. “Okay. Well, fuck that guy.”

He turned to the gauntlet, the green gem glowing like a half-lidded eye. “What about you, Ddraig?”

(Mine is much more complex.)

Issei sighed. “Well, tell me. It’s not like I’ve got anything better to do right now.”

The gem pulsed, and the dragon’s deep voice filled the air, slow and deliberate. (Alright. Here goes. As you might have guessed, the supernatural is real. From the legendary figures like King Arthur, to the horror tales of yokai, to the gods and goddesses of ancient religions—right down to the Bible itself. All of it exists.)

Issei’s brows shot up, but before he could interject, the dragon continued.

(Long ago there was a great war between the Biblical God and his angels, the fallen angels, and the devils. But their war was interrupted by two dragons settling an ancient rivalry.)

Issei tilted his head, skeptical despite everything. “What was it even about?”

(They had both forgotten the reason for their rivalry. In the end, it became a matter of pride.)

Issei snorted. “Pretty stupid if you ask me.”

On his wrist, Sherri’s softly glowing screen flickered. “Agreed.”

“Ha!” Issei pointed at the watch. “See? Even the AI thinks it’s dumb.”

(Quiet.) The dragon’s voice rolled through his skull like a growl of thunder. (Anyways… The dragons saw that their battle was interrupted by the biblical war and quickly unleashed their fury at them. But the angels, devils, and fallen soon made a compromise — if they wanted to finish their war, they had to join forces to defeat the two dragons.”)

Issei’s eyes widened slightly.

(In the end, the two mighty dragons were defeated by the joined forces. Then the Biblical God trapped their souls and power into mystical objects called Sacred Gears, which were then given to humans as gifts, weapons to fight against the supernatural.)

Issei stared at the glowing gem embedded in the gauntlet. “And that’s how I got you in my arm, right?”

(That is correct. Every time one of my hosts dies, my soul and power transfer over to somebody else. Every Sacred Gear is unique, with its own ability. You, partner, possess the Boosted Gear — a Mid-tier Longinus. It grants you the ability to Boost your power every ten seconds and also to Transfer the power you’ve collected to anything you want.)

Issei blinked. He still had no idea how his life had turned into an anime plot in the span of five minutes, but a flicker of boyish excitement crept past his fear.

“Huh,” He murmured, flexing his fingers inside the crimson gauntlet. “I guess that’s… actually pretty cool.”

The gem pulsed once, a faint chuckle echoing in his mind.

Issei continued to stare at his arms—one encased in alien tech, the other in a dragon’s gauntlet—when the soft, even tone of Sherri’s voice interrupted his spiraling thoughts.

“Master, I am about to initiate the necessary protocol.”

His head snapped up. “Wait—what necessary protocol?”

“My creator has given me a list of procedures to follow upon finding a host.”

Glowing text streamed across the Dimensional Watch’s surface as she spoke, crisp and methodical:

“One. Register the new host into the Dimensional Watch’s records.

Two. Keep my master healthy and functional.

Three. Delete Dimensional Watch’s data on currently recorded worlds.

Four. Once at the time of registration, activate a random gate/portal and cause a jump into any world to ensure the true function of the Watch is working.

Five. Give a random time limit for the return to the master’s homeworld.

Six. Every two weeks continue to open a random gate or go to a previously recorded world.

Seven. Rules Five and Six may be overruled if the master himself chooses to go to another world, or if the master is in life-threatening conditions.”

Sherri’s voice remained perfectly level, but the words themselves rattled around in Issei’s skull like loose bullets.

“As you heard, Master,” She finished, “I will now begin a random jump.”

Issei blinked. “Wait, wait, wait—what?! I can’t leave! I just, my mom is probably worried sick right now!” His voice cracked, echoing across the empty park. “I’m supposed to be home, not… whatever this is!

“Do not worry,” Sherri replied without a hint of sympathy. “I will set the return point to be fifteen minutes after this.”

Issei’s face twisted. “What the hell does that even mean?!”

“It means,” the AI said, almost kindly, “that no matter how much time we spend in the other world, a year or a decade, it will only be fifteen minutes here.”

Issei stared at the watch as the explanation sank in. “That… doesn’t make this any less crazy!”

Ddraig’s deep chuckle rolled like distant thunder. (Bwa ha ha! I don’t know what’s going on either, but it sounds interesting! Traveling to another world… I truly got lucky to have such an interesting partner.)

Issei threw his hands in the air. “Wait, Ddraig, don’t make this worse!” he snapped. “What about my opinion?!”

Neither voice seemed inclined to answer. The air around him began to hum with a low vibration, the November night warping like heat rising off asphalt.

The trees at the edge of the park blurred; the lamp posts twisted like reflections in water. Issei’s stomach dropped as his vision bent inward, colors smearing together, the ground pulling away beneath him.

“Hey—hey wait, seriously! I’m not ready for—!”

His shout cut off as the world folded in on itself. For an instant he saw nothing but endless light like a tunnel through a kaleidoscope. Then Hyoudou Issei was gone, the dead patch of grass the only sign he’d ever been there.

The park fell silent once more, as if the night had simply swallowed him whole.

Finally done. Tell me what you think of the remastered chapter.

I'll be honest, it's been so long since I read the original ch 1, but from what I can remember I like this version more.
