SxD: The Day Weiss Learned Her Boyfriend Could Breathe Fire
Added 2025-05-31 14:05:19 +0000 UTCWeiss had learned—through much pain and stubborn adaptation—to expect and accept the unexpected when it came to her boyfriend, Issei Hyoudou.
Whether it was his ridiculous durability, his bizarrely endearing honesty, or that red gauntlet on his arm that seemed to shout "BOOST!" at the most inopportune moments, nothing about him made sense. He was strong—frighteningly so—and utterly unpredictable. Add in his glaring lack of aura control and the fact that he apparently fell from the sky with no memories, and Weiss had long since decided that Issei operated under his own set of physical laws.
But fire-breathing? That was new and brought a huge revelation at just who he is.
—--------------------------
The mission had started off as routine—simple Grimm clearing. Nothing Beacon students hadn’t handled dozens of times before. A few stray Beowolves and an Ursa threatening a nearby trade route outside Vale. Team RWBY and JNPR had split to deal with the local Grimm, but Ruby insisted Weiss babysit her boyfriend so he doesn’t accidentally punch a tree into orbit or get lost.
Weiss had taken the jab with her usual cold retort and went on ahead.
Now she stood in a clearing, holding Myrtenaster mid-swing, to finish off a Beowolf. But then Issei had sneezed. And the world turned into fire.
A massive column of crimson flame had erupted from his mouth without warning. Wild, molten heat sweeping across the battlefield in a roaring arc. The entire horde of Grimm had been caught in the blast, their howls of death cut short as they turned to cinders in less than a second, along with various trees.
Silence followed.
Ash drifted gently down like black snow. The trees nearby smoked faintly from the edges of the inferno. The ground itself was scorched into glass.
Issei stood in front of her, hand over his mouth, eyes wide in disbelief. He looked at her like he was waiting for someone else to explain what had just happened.
Weiss didn’t move. She couldn’t. Her brain refused to believe her eyes.
Then, very slowly, she turned her head. “…You just breathed fire.”
Issei blinked. “Uh. Yeah?”
Her eyes narrowed. “You. Just. Breathed. Fire.”
There was a momentary pause, during which he looked down at himself as if it might explain itself. Then he looked back at her, more confused than before.
“I… think I did?” He offered with a helpless shrug. “I mean, I didn’t know I could. I just sneezed and—FOOM—flames!”
Weiss stared at him for a few long seconds, mentally recalibrating every understanding of anatomy and magic she possessed. None of it helped.
She pinched the bridge of her nose. “When?” She said, in a voice so restrained. “Were you planning to tell me about this?”
He flinched. “Uhh… just now? I swear this has never happened before.”
Weiss closed her eyes and breathed in through her nose. Count to five, Weiss. Breathe. Control. You are Weiss Schnee. You are composed. Elegant. In command.
“Don’t you tell me ‘it never happened before.’” She hissed between gritted teeth. “I will freeze you where you stand and leave you here for the Beowolves to gnaw on your ankles. How could you not realize that you could breathe fire.”
Issei’s mouth snapped shut with a click.
There was another long pause, during which Weiss could feel a migraine blooming behind her eyes.
Finally, she spoke again, her tone utterly exhausted. “So to clarify… now, on top of being from not remembering who you are, wielding a magical gauntlet, possessing strength that defies logic, and being the only person I’ve ever met without aura who can still win fights against Grimm... you can also breathe fire?”
Issei smiled sheepishly. “Apparently?”
“…Of course you can.” She let out a sigh and turned away, resting Myrtenaster against her shoulder.
She could hear the smile in his voice. “Admit it, Weiss. It’s kinda cool.”
“It’s something,” she muttered, refusing to let him see the faint pink dusting her cheeks.

Weiss Schnee POV
‘Honestly, how am I supposed to keep up with this idiot? One minute he’s grinning like a fool, the next he’s vaporizing Grimm by breathing fire. Amnesiac or not, there’s nothing normal about him. And yet…’
She glanced back briefly. He was brushing soot from his jacket, muttering about how his breath smelled like charcoal now. Still baffled. Still utterly sincere.
‘...And yet I still loce him.’
Weiss huffed under her breath and resumed walking. “Come on. We’re reporting this incident. And if you so much as sneeze near me or the rest, I will muzzle you.”
Issei jogged to catch up, laughing sheepishly. “Yes ma’am!”

It would have been funnier if the sneeze brought up his armor
