Fire Emblem: Why am I here Chapter 1: A Girl from the Plains

??: Are you awake?
A smooth feminine voice was heard through the darkness, waking me up.

'Where the hell am I? What happened? I was walking home, when suddenly a giant hole appeared out of nowhere, right below my feet. Did I go to an anime? Might as well open my eyes and take a look at who woke me up.

A familiar green-haired girl, wearing blue tribal clothes appears in front of my eyes. Until it hit me.

'Fuck I know where I am now. Does that mean I'm the tactician? Well, we're screwed. I know nothing about tactics. Might as well play my part and hope we don't die. Wait, she's staring, shit, what do I do?'

Girl with green hair: I found you unconscious on the plains.
The girl with green hair spoke looking at the surprised expression on the man found in strange clothes.

Probably at finding himself alive in an unfamiliar place.

Lyn: I am Lyn, of the Lorca tribe. You are safe now.

Giving her best smile. She tries to reassure him that she was harmless and safe.

Lyn: Who are you? Can you remember your name?
She says with a hint of worry in her tone.

'Okay, what should I tell her and would she believe me. Guess my name is good enough and the usual Fire Emblem stuff when finding a person laying down on the grass.'

Giving my best acting at trying to be an amnesiac and gathering a bit of courage to talk to a beautiful girl.

Conscious boy: My name's Jack.

Lyn: Your name is Jack? What an odd-sounding name...
She said it with mirth like the name was foreign to her. But quickly shook her head.

Lyn: But pay me no mind. It is a good name.

She corrects herself trying to not sound rude.

Lyn: I see by your attire that you are a traveler.

'Do my clothes really look strange to her.'

Lyn: What brings you to the Sacae Plains? Would you share your story with me?

She asks curiously about how I ended up here.

'Ok here goes, time to lie.'

Jack: Sorry I don't reme-

Roar! Crash.
Screams and sounds of grunts were heard outside of the tent.

Lyn: Hm? What was that noise? I'll go see what's happening. Jack, wait for me.
Lyn quickly leaves in a hurry.

I quickly got up to get ready seeing as the bandits were attacking if this was following the game. I then searched what I had on me when I came to this world.

Jack: Shoes, pants, t-shirt, backpack, jacket. Alright, everything is here even my smartphone. Where would I find electricity?
Wondering as I try to get dressed quickly.

Suddenly Lyn quickly rushes in with a worried expression on her face.
Lyn: Oh no! Bandits! They must have come down from the Biran Mountains! They must be planning on raiding the local villages. I... I have to stop them!

Jack: Lyn calm down

She then looks at me and calms herself.

Jack: How many are there?

Lyn: There are about six in total

'Six, in the game there were two.'

Lyn: If that's all of them, I think I can handle them on my own. You'll be safe here Jack.

For some reason, her answer disturbs me like I was some damsel in distress. Which is funny, because I don't want to fight, but I feel like if I don't I'd lose something important.

Jack: Lyn let me help.

Lyn: What? Do you want to help? Well, can you use a weapon?

Jack: Nope. I don't know how to use one.

My response does not bring reassurance to her face. Seeing that I quickly try to make myself useful.

Jack: But I know tactics and strategy.

'Which is a lie, but I can't tell her that.'

Jack: Plus I can learn how to use a sword.

Lyn: Ah I see... So you're a strategist by trade? An odd profession, but...
She still looked hesitant to accept, so I pushed a bit more.

Jack: Come-on what do you have to lose?

'Might not be the best answer.'

Jack: I mean, I'll be careful and I'm a quick learner too.

'Also a lie.'

Lyn: Very well. We'll go together!
Even though my answer was less than reassuring, she still gives me a happy smile for wanting to help her.

Lyn quickly goes through her stuff to find two swords, while I contemplated what I just did.

'What the fuck did I just do. Shit, shit, shit!' Quickly followed by an early life crisis. 'Calm down, I can do this!' Then reassures himself. 'You know what fuck it.' And then defeat.. 'Alright screw it. I'll just do what every anime, manga, and light novel protagonist that goes to another world would do. Bumble my way through the plot and get a harem. For the Harem!' Finally, fire is seen through Jack's eyes filled with perversity and determination.

Lyn quickly comes back with two iron swords and is quickly astonished at the sight of the strange man she found in the plains, filled with such determination and somehow, someway that look calms her heart that things will be okay.

Jack: Lyn quickly let's go people need help.

Lyn gets rid of her surprise by seeing Jack already at the entrance, ready to go.

Lyn: Yes
She then goes out and leads him to the bandits

Lyn: Over here!

They quickly arrive at the scene. Jack was slightly out of breath but was able to hide it well.

Lyn: If you want to help, Jack, I could use your advice. I'll protect you, so stay close to me.

Again her words make Jack feel uncomfortable.

Jack: I told you, Lyn, I'll help you fight them.

Lyn: But you told me that you didn't know how to use a sword.

Jack: I also said I was a fast learner, so here give me a sword.

Reluctantly Lyn gave Jack a sword. Which, he immediately starts to lose his balance because of the new weight.

Jack: Shit!
Jack quickly tries to hold his position and keep the sword up. Basically shaking at the extra weight in his hands. Then he tries to swing it around a few times but almost loses it.

Lyn: Are you sure, you're fine?
Lyn says looking uncomfortable at the pathetic sight.

Jack: It's fine, Lyn, just trying to get used to it.

Lyn: Hold the sword like this and keep your feet spread like so.

She quickly instructs Jack at taking a basic stance and keeping the sword firm. Jack tries a new position and is surprised at how easier it became.

Jack: Hey it's easier, thanks, Lyn.
After that exchange they keep moving until they see two bandits standing a few yards away from the entrance of a village, talking to each other not paying attention to the surroundings.

Lyn: We have to get closer to the enemy.

Jack: Lyn, wait, don't just go in there without a plan.

Lyn: Why?

Jack: Look the reason these two are just standing there is to keep watch in case of intruders. They are not paying attention to their surroundings because they believe no one will come and are not in a hurry to leave. You said there are six right?

Lyn: That is correct.

Jack: That means if we alert them, the other four would come rushing in to gang up on us. Giving ourselves a disadvantage. We have to defeat them quickly without them alerting the others. Giving us an advantage in the element of surprise. After we defeat these two, we can plan how to deal with the others later.

Jack then spots a big rock. It was a lot easier to hold than the iron sword.

Jack: Lyn, I'll hit one of them with this, it should be enough of a surprise for us to charge at them and attack first. If it hits one of them, attack the other since you are better at this than me and I'll keep the other way.

Lyn: Alright

They both got closer to the enemy. When there was a few feet of distance, Jack throws the rock and luckily hits one of them in the head making him dazed and the other astonished at seeing the unexpected attack. Lyn quickly charges at the one surprised and slashes him once across the chest. Seeing the damage to his chest. The bandit raises his ax and weakly swings which Lyn dodges with ease, with a final attack she cuts his head from his body. Meanwhile, Jack was approaching the one he hit with a rock at a slower speed. The man would probably suffer brain damage in the future. Seeing the man was still holding his head to stop the blood and his headache. Jack raises his sword and strikes his neck, while not a perfect cut it probably crushed his windpipes make him unable to breathe. Suddenly Jack feels a strange sensation as he sees the corpse of the man he killed.

Lyn: Jack are you okay?
She spoke with concern for her friend's distress and luckily was enough to shake him out of it.

Jack: Sorry Lyn. I caused you trouble.

Lyn: It's fine. Jack, if you want I can fight by myself. You just advise me on what to do. Your plan was the right choice.

Again her words made him sad that he wasn't reliable to others.

Jack: No. It-it's fine. I'm just don't remember if I ever did this? I'll try to get my mind together.

Before giving Lyn time to speak, Jack was soon heading into the direction of the village.

Lyn and Jack soon were at the entrance of the village and see a bandit about to strike a defenseless man. Quickly Jack throws the same rock, unfortunately, it hit his shoulder, not giving much damage like before. It did get the attention of the bandit making him furious and giving the defenseless man a chance to run away. The bandit soon charges at the two in a blind rage. Both move out of the way from his charge. Lyn seeing a chance attacks from behind making a cut to his back causing him to yell in pain. This brings his anger directly at Lyn making him forget of the one who throw the rock. Jack not thinking of the gift in the horse's mouth, quickly strikes at the bandit's legs with the sword. Causing the bandit to fall and giving Lyn the chance to make the final strike.

Jack: Well that one was an idiot.

Lyn: I'm surprised how easy it is to get rid of them

Jack: The first two we caught by surprise and the last one was an idiot. I'm sure the next three would be more alert. Since they probably heard the yell the last one shouted.

Soon two bandits were seen heading in their direction until they spotted them.

Quickly they grab their axes and charged.

Jack: Lyn, let's separate them. You take the one on the right. I believe he is currently the superior one considering his ax. Finish him fast and then help me double team the other guy.

Jack spoke with confidence, but Lyn was still worried about leaving Jack alone. Seeing this Jack tried to convince her a bit more.

Jack: Don't worry I won't die. I can at least dodge his blows. He's not as fast as you.

Lyn: Alright
She said with a smile

Jack: Great! Lyn charge at the guy I told you and I'll get his friend's attention.

He says while reaching for the same rock he has been using since the start.

Lyn charges forward surprising the enemy at their opponent not running away in terror. She soon reaches her target and swung her sword, but is soon blocked. The other bandit was about to join his partner but felt a bit of damage on his exposed shoulder.

He turns around and saw his shoulder wounded by a bloodstained rock. He also finds the brat who threw it. He gets angry and charges at the brat.

Jack realizes that he got the bastard's attention and that he missed. Jack raises his sword to block the strike of the ax, which he surprised himself at being capable of doing it, but soon realizes that it was a mistake. His arms start to go numb at the pain and also that the ax was still going forward. It soon reaches his shoulder and was being grazed by the ax, leaving a large cut on his shoulder making blood flow out and stain his clothes, luckily it stopped there. Jack realizes his stupid mistake at trying to comparing his strength with the strength of the bandit. By using pure adrenaline he toughened out of the pain and pushes the bandit off. He quickly takes some steps away from the bandit and prepares to parry again.

The bandit realizing the idiot did not learn his lesson and quickly charges at him. When he was an arms reach away from the idiot. He raises his ax and with more force brings his ax down. Luckily this was what Jacks wanted. He faints trying to block it and by a few seconds moves his body going behind the bandit. The bandit soon comes down for not expecting the lack of resistance and tumbles. Jack seeing the bandit down, raises his sword and brings it down slashing the neck of the bandits.

With Lyn, her opponent was better than the last two she faced. But, as Jack predicted was slower than her. She quickly stepped away from him when he blocked her first strike, but was unable to defend against the second one which she cut his stomach side to side. He soon retaliates, but Lyn was able to get away fast enough and soon comes to attack again. She quickly cut his chest and even that wasn't enough. This time when the bandit fought back, he was successful in causing damage to Lyn. The slash-cut her shoulder and to her chest, luckily it was not very deep. Lyn did not give the bandit a chance to attack again and sliced his neck. Lyn forgetting about her injuries quickly goes to help her novice friend but notices the fight ending.

Lyn: Jack, you did it! She says happy at her new friend being alive.

Jack: Yeah, I guess I did.
He says filled with surprise

Lyn: Victory!
She says this with childish excitement that makes Jack smile. He soon notices the blood staining her tribal clothes.

Jack: Lyn, are you okay?

He questions with worry. His expression brings down Lyn's excitement and notices the wound on Jack's shoulder.

Lyn: Guess we've both been injured.
She says with a sheepish smile.

Jack: This is nothing to be forgetful about.

Soon some of the villagers come running up to them. In which Lyn tries to get information about the situation and the last bandit.

Meanwhile, Jack was collecting his rock and checking the valuables of the bandits. Jack soon collected their weapons and placed them in his backpack, fortunately, all three weapons fit in his hiking bag. He also found some gold coins from their bodies, but he left them there. After that he collected the rock, he has been using since the start.

Lyn quickly assures the villager that they would take care of the last bandit. When Lyn turns around she spots Jack kneeling below the corpse of the bandits and placing their weapons in his large sack.

Lyn: Jack what are you doing?

He soon turns around at the sound of her voice.

Jack: Nothing just checking their valuables. These guys don't have much, just a lot of gold coins. I left them there for the villagers to compensate for their loses.

His words bring a smile to her face at having an honorable friend.

Jack: I did take their weapons though.
He said that cheekily like he was doing something bad.

Lyn: Fine.

Jack: So, what did you find out.

Lyn: There's another bandit over by the gers to the west.

Jack then looks at her funny as if she said a strange thing.

Lyn: You don't know what a ger is?

Jack: Sorry

Lyn: A ger is a type of round hit. Many nomads live in huts like these.

Hmm.....
She then gives a gaze at Jack's wounds and decides now would be a good time.

Lyn: We would do well to use this time to administer a little first aid. I'm carrying a couple of vulneraries in my satchel. They should heal us up. Would you get them for me?

Jack soon approached the satchel hanging by her side. He opens it and takes two green vials, which he gives one to Lyn.

Lyn: Thank you, Jack!

She soon opens the cork and drinks the green liquid. Jack watching Lyn drink it. With hesitation, Jack pours the liquid down his throat. The taste was disgusting, but soon the effects came quickly and his wounds started to close up until it was gone.

Lyn: Now, let's go get that brigand over by the ger!

Not soon after they meet the last bandit. When Jack met him, he knew that this was the first boss of the prologue.

Batta: Who do you fucker's think you are? Do you think the two of you can stand up to Batta the Beast?

Jack: Lyn, be careful this guy is different from the rest.

Lyn: Understood.
Lyn quickly charges at the bandit with her sword by her side. He was at first surprised by her speed and could not react before Lyn got the first strike. A cut soon appears down his stomach with a trail of blood. Before Lyn had a chance to get away from Betta, he retaliates with his ax and manages to hurt her. Lyn was laying on the ground and about to getaway. But Betta was about to finish her, until a rock with smashed his forehead causing it to bleed. This gave Lyn a chance to escape and give him another cut by his chest.

Jack: Are you okay?

Lyn: Whew! He's tough...

Lyn then gives a serious look at the bandit trying to decide what to do. Until some form of a plan comes together. She then looks at seriously at Jack.

Lyn: It all comes down to this next blow. Jack, if I fall, I want you to flee. You must escape!

Jack: Lyn, don't be stupid. We do this together.

Lyn: But...

Jack: Trust me just like I trust you.
She then smiles happily to have such a partner.

Lyn: Alright

Batta: You both will pay for this.
The bandit says angrily for the damage the duo had caused. Soon both charged at the bandit, confusing him on who to fight first. The answer was taken from him when the boy came first and just he was about to strike him, Jack turned around behind him.

The bandit turned around to follow Jack not wanting to give him an advantage. This was a mistake because that gave Lyn an opening to strike his back. When he turned around again, he was given a cut by Jack's blade. In his mind, the bandit chooses to forget about the boy and attack Lyn. He attacked with his ax but missed by Lynn's speed. Finally to finish the fight Lyn did something amazing. With pure speed, she disappeared from sight and by the end of it, two huge cut wounds appear on Batta's body when she appeared again.

Betta: What? How... How did you--

Soon death came to the bandit. Causing Lyn and Jack to relax.

Lyn: Whew... That was close.

Jack: Lyn that was an amazing technique you did.

Lyn: .... Jack sorry. You told me not to underestimate him, but I got arrogant. Sorry for causing you to worry.

Jack: It's fine. I'm just glad you're okay. Try to be more careful. There are a lot of stronger people out there than him.

Lyn: I'll need to be stronger if I'm going to survive... Strong enough that no one can defeat me.

She says that with a serious expression as if remembering a bad memory.

Lyn: We did good, Jack. Let's go home.

After collecting the weapon of the bandit and checking on the villagers if there were any more bandits. The duo went home not wanting to accept any rewards for the good deed they did. After they get home it was already sunset. They quickly had dinner from the food given to them by the villagers and slept like logs.

Lyn: Good morning, Jack! Are you awake yet?

Jack: Waaahh! Morning Lyn!
They both slept in the same room. Jack seeing that Lyn was fully dressed then came with a mischievous idea.

Jack: Were you watching me sleep, Lyn.
His words quickly brought a blush to appear on her cheeks.

Lyn: N-no I was just....just.
She says this while stuttering and unable to think of a good response.

Jack: It's fine, Lyn. I think it's cute that you were waiting for me.

Lyn: C-cute.

The blush was getting worse but was soon shaken off when Jack starts to get up and prepare his morning duties. After everything was put in order Lyn tried to start a conversation again.

Lyn: The fight yesterday must have taken a lot out of you.

Jack: I could say the same to you. How are your wounds?

Lyn: They are fine. What about you?

Jack: A bit sore but no longer in too much pain.

Lyn: That's good. Say, Jack... I want to talk to you about something.

She says this with a blush. Jack thinks the expression was adorable but did not comment.

Jack: You don't have to be so shy about it. Tell me anything with confidence, after all, we've been through yesterday I believe we are good friends.

Lyn: We are. You have some experience in the way of war, I can see.

Jack: S-sure let's go with that. ( Total lie )

Somehow she did not catch it.

Lyn: Would you allow me to travel with you?

Jack: Lyn, I would love it if you came with me, but how about getting permission from your parents.

The world seems to stop when the word parents came and Jack soon remembered why. He felt like a dick for reminding her. But also knew it was to move the plot.

Lyn: What? You... want me to get permission from my parents? My mother and my father died six months ago. My people-- the Lorca-- they don't... I'm the last of my tribe. Bandits attacked and... they killed so many people. The tribe was scattered. My father was a chieftain, and I wanted to protect our people. But I'm so young, and our people were old-fashioned. They wouldn't follow a woman. No one would follow me.

Tears were coming down from her eyes as she kept remembering her past and her loss. Jack just watched not wanting to ruin her morn.

Lyn: Sniff... I'm sorry. I've been alone for so long... No. No more. I will shed no more tears.

Suddenly when she said those words she was soon enveloped in a hug. Her face was now in Jack's chest while his arms wrapped around her head.

Jack: You're wrong... Your wrong! Crying isn't a weakness. Feeling fear, anger, loneliness, and sadness isn't wrong. It only tells people how you feel and that you care. If you're sad, cry. If your happy, smile. If you're angry, fight back. If you're scared,  cower but stand up. Feeling emotions is the freedom that everybody has the right to express. It is a gift that nobody can take. So don't say that you wish to get rid of them because you want to get stronger. For there is nothing to change because it is not wrong. There is a time and place for everything and now is the time to be sad because you remember the people you loved and lost. Now is the time to smile because you made a friend. For this friend will stay by your side until you no longer feel lonely.

His words were with filled emotions. These emotions were quickly able to enter Lyn's heart and soul. Quickly her arms wrapped around her friend almost as if she would lose him. Tears were coming out more and more.

Lyn: Jack. Thank you...... Waah, mother, father....

Minutes pass by in each other arms with Lyn crying tears of sorrow over her loved ones. After it was over Lyn tried to compose herself cleaning her tears on Jack's shirt.

Lyn: Thank you. I'm better now.

With that, both reluctantly move their arms away from each other.

Lyn: Jack, I want-- I must become stronger, so that I may avenge my father's death! Yesterday's battle taught me something. I won't become stronger by sitting here alone. Jack, tell me you'll train me, that you'll let me travel with you!

Jack: Hmm... I don't know if getting revenge is the best solution, but I would love it if you traveled with me. It would be sad if I had an adventure by myself without anyone to share it with.

Lyn: You will? That's wonderful! Thank you! Oh, thank you! We'll be better off working together, I know it. You'll be my master strategist, and I'll be your peerless warrior! We can do it! Right?

Jack: Alright if we are going on a journey, we need supplies and rations to travel.

Lyn: If that is so we can get them at Bulgar, it is the commercial center of Sacae.

Jack: Great, how long will it take to get there?

Lyn: About two days. We have enough food to last us that long thanks to the villagers.

Jack: Alright. Then let's pack everything you want to take with you. Some extra clothes, water, and a tent.

Lyn: Understood

With that, the two look around Lyn's home to see if they needed to take anything else.

_____________________________

After everything was done, we now see the two walking on open plains to their next destination.

Jack: Lyn, are you sure it's alright to give your ger to the village.

Lyn: It's fine. I have a feeling that I won't return for a long time. It is better to give it to somebody who needs it.

Jack: If you're sure. You know I've been thinking?

Lyn: About what?

Jack: I'm a tactician.

Lyn: Right.

Jack: And what do all tacticians need to prove they are the best.

Lyn: Tactics?

Jack: Well, yes. But I'm talking about an army. So here's the plan we start our own mercenary group.

Lyn: You want us to be mercenaries.

Jack: We can be one of the best. You said you wanted to get stronger and what better way than through experience.

Lyn: That is true. So, how do we become mercenaries?

Jack: First, we need a name?

Lyn: A name?

Jack: Yup, and I have the perfect one. From this moment on, we will be called the Shepherds. (Totally stealing it)

Lyn: Shepherds. Not the most frightening name.

Jack: Nonsense. Shepherds are very brave. Protecting his herd from the wolves. And that is what the Shepherds are all about. Protecting the innocent from the villains of the world. Doesn't that sound nice, a peacekeeping group that wishes to protect the people.

Lyn: That does sound nice. Alright, we'll be called the Shepherds.

Jack: Awesome. Now we need funds, weapons, supplies. For now, it's just the two of us, but soon we'll have more people. We'll also have to find people with different skills. We need Archers, Magus, Cooks, Knights, Pegasus knights, Thief, Musicians, Dancers, Healers, Fighters, Swordsmen.

Lyn: Why do we need musicians and dancers?

Jack: Obviously to party. What's the point if we don't have fun.

Lyn had a look at disbelief as she heard the idea. But I just went with it. Thinking about what would dancers and musicians be needed in an army.

Lyn: Okay?

Jack: Next we will have to train the troops to be ready for any situation. Set some ground rules and order for everyone. But we will settle things when we have more people.
And with that, the two are now seen walking on the open plains cheerfully speaking of their next plans.

Support Conversation Rank C (Jack X Lyndis)

After hours of traveling, the sky was close to sunset. Our two heroes are seen sitting around a campfire with their lunch on the fire.

Jack: 'I'm missing the convenience of staying at home. '

Lyn: Jack, can you tell me more about yourself?

Jack: What do you want to know?

Lyn: Why were you unconscious on the plains?

Jack: Don't know.

Lyn: What?

Jack: I don't know how I ended up there. I don't remember ever reaching the Sacae Plains before. The only thing I know is that I'm not from this continent.

Lyn: So you don't know how you ended up here. How mysterious, could you have lost your memories?

Jack: Looks like it. But I still remember my family and past.

Lyn: They must be worried. I know I would be if my loved one was lost.

Jack: They probably are. But they knew I left. Before I forgot my memories I remembered that I left home to follow my dreams.

Lyn: What were they? To become a great tactician.

Jack: To be free.

Lyn: Freedom!

Jack: Ya, the right to travel to follow my own path and create my own destiny and future. So, basically, I'm living my dream. What about you, other than this revenge quest. What is your dream?

Lyn: I want to restore the Lorca tribe.

Jack: Is that what you truly want or is it just a sense of obligation?

Lyn: Huh?

Jack: Don't get me wrong. Wanting to restore your tribe is an honorable goal. But a dream is a desire, something that you want to achieve in life with your own two hands. So, tell me. If your clan was not destroyed, if your family was not murdered. What would be your dream?

Lyn: ....... I don't know. Ever since that night. I thought of nothing but my pain and vengeance. I have forgotten that childish wish. Sorry.

Jack: There's nothing to apologize for. It's your life and your dream and what happened you can't be blamed for it. I can't force you to do anything you don't want to do.

Lyn: Right, thank you. Let's talk of something else

Jack: I know your favorite color?

Lyn: Green and yours?

Jack: Mines orange. How about food? My favorite is pizza.

Lyn: Pizza? What's that?

Jack: Huh! How do you not know what pizza is?! Wait, I forgot I'm in this world's medieval ages.

Lyn: Medieval what?
Lyn said more confused than before at the strange words of her new friend and at how sad her friend just got. Like somebody just killed his pet.

Jack: Forget it, I just realized my favorite food doesn't exist in this country. Don't worry one day I will figure out how to let you taste it. It's pretty good.

Lyn: Alright one day let me taste it. If it matters that much to you it must be delicious.

Jack: It's a promise.

With that both noticed the food was roasted and started to chow down.
