Cyndaquil's POV
Today I met my trainer. My first impression of him was a bit disappointing. I was expecting someone more eager to begin our journey. Someone confident and strong. Instead my trainer was cowardly and weak. Just watching him interact with Professor Elm was embarrassing. I've known the Pokémon professor for half my short life and even I can tell he was the least threatening man in this region. But knowing I had no other choice but to follow him if I wanted to begin my path to become strong.
After we left the lab. We arrived at his home and met his mother. She was very kind and her food was very tasty. Almost made me want to not leave. After we finished our meal my trainer and I began to head out but not before Izzy's mom made me promise to protect her son. I guess I had no choice but to agree that I would watch over him.
It wasn't long before we ran into our first Pokémon battle. While we were just about to leave the town. Now he was a trainer I wouldn't mind having. Unfortunately I already made a promise to protect my trainer and I wasn't about to break my word.
When our opponent released his Pokémon. I just knew it was an opponent worthy of my first battle even if it was a slowpoke. Before I even had time to release my flames the slowpoke tackled me hard to the ground. Just as I got up and was about to attack back. My trainer did something utterly pathetic. He was about to throw our battle away just because I got a little bit hurt. I was truly furious at him but luckily me and our opponent were able to talk some sense into him. He even gained a bit of confidence in him to give me some directions. Not that it helped as my attack did little to damage that slowpoke. After that I received a critical hit and the battle was over. Not going to lie, this loss hurt my pride. Couldn't even blame my trainer as even without his help I would still lose. Guess my trainer wasn't the only one that was pathetic.
When I regained consciousness and was healed imagine my surprise that it was my own trainer to give me a pep talk even taking the blame for our defeat. We both made a promise that day that we would get stronger together.
3rd person's POV
As the two set off on the journey to Mr. Pokémon's house. The black-haired boy and his partner were now outside the town of New Bark and on route 29. As they walked on the dirt road, it wasn't long for the nose of the fire mouse smelled a different scent on a shrub outside the road. Without warning or the command of its trainer. Cyndaquil rushed out and dived into the shrub.
"Wait Cyndaquil!" The boy cried out. It wasn't long before the reason why his Pokémon ran showed itself in the form of a Rattata. A small purple rat was thrown out of the shrub with his Pokémon. One look was all he needed to realize that Cyndaquil just wanted to fight the rat.
"Quill!" Cyndaquil roared with his flames gushing out.
"Rat ta." The rat weakly said hurt and bruised not expecting a fight. But it soon got it wits together and charged with a tackle.
"Dodge it and tackle!" Izzy said without a second thought.
"Cyn" The fire mouse agreed and followed. With a second tackle it hit the small rat knocking it out. "Cynda!" With joy at winning his second battle the fire mouse cheered. He turned around to celebrate with his trainer but noticed his trainer was gone. He soon got a bit worried at where his trainer was until he heard someone kneel next to the defeated Pokémon with a potion on his hand.
"Good job Cyndaquil." Izzy says using the potion on the defeated Pokémon.
"Quil?" The Pokémon questions why he's healing it.
"I just felt bad at leaving the poor little guy full of injuries. I mean it was just going about its day then we came and suddenly attacked it. It wouldn't feel right leaving him like that." The twelve year old says showing a side of him that wasn't his usual cowardness.
"Cyn." The Cyndaquil says in understanding feeling a bit guilty.
"Come on. It should be okay to leave it alone now. Plus I kind of don't want to be around when it wakes up. It might attack us in anger." The boy says returning back to his usual cowardliness. As he places the Rattata in the shrub and packs the potion away.
"Cynda." The fire mouse snorts in disbelief, unbelieving that the Pokémon it just defeated could do any harm and at his trainer's obvious attempt at running away from a situation that involved interacting with others. But it agree that they should continue the route
"Ra Tat ta" Soon the two leave the scene unaware that the Rattata just woke up and heard the conversation. It soon started to follow them wanting to say it's thanks to the trainer.
...............
As the two continue down the route 29 to Cherrygrove City. The process continued with Cyndaquil attacking any Pokemon, he came across 2 Sentret, 2 Pidgey, 1 Hoothoot and 1 other Rattata. Of course every time the battle was over Izzy repeated the process of healing them and the couple of times Cyndaquil was actually hurt reduced the 5 potions he received to two.
Cyndaquil didn't want to say it but the constant battling was starting to affect him. But that was nothing compared to Izzy's suffering. Seeing as he spent the last two years locked inside his room has left his body in not the best condition. He was almost to the point of being called chubby and couldn't handle the strain of all the constant walking for hours. Hell he wanted to stop three hours ago but thanks to Cyndaquil constant support in the form of a tackle to the butt. In the end Izzy was covered in his own sweat.
"Cyndaquil. Please can we rest now?" Izzy pleaded already his feet and legs burned and his back was hunched from the weight of his backpack.
"Cyn" The fire mouse sighed, accepting that they did need to rest. Soon it started to look around for any suitable resting spot until he noticed an Oran berry tree. "Cynda!"
"Huh? Oh thank you." Izzy said with gratitude as he saw the tree his Pokémon was pointing at. As he ran to the tree, he noticed the blue berries inside it. "Oran berries." Izzy soon tries to reach one of the nearest branches to grab it.
"Speer"
But just before Izzy could touch one of the berries. He was suddenly received a peck by a Spearow to his chest. Knocking him off his feet and into the grass.
"Speear!" The bird shouts spreading his wings to show aggression and that this tree was his territory.
"Quiill!" Cyndaquil screams in anger at his trainer getting hurt shooting out flames on his back.
"Ow!" Izzy groans in pain trying to get up while holding his chest. Which was enough for Cyndaquil to turn around and check on his trainer.
"Cyn." The mouse says in worry.
"I'm fine." Izzy says trying to tough it out but by the corners of his eyes tears threaten to come out. "Dodge!" Izzy screamed startling Cyndaquil.
Unfortunately the command came too late as Spearow pecked Cyndaquil hard. When Cyndaquil quickly tried to stand it was once again pecked.
"Cyndaquil get out of there!" Regrettably Cyndaquil couldn't as every time he tried to get up Spearrow rushed with a peck attack.
"Roll to the left before it comes close and get up." Izzy seeing the mercilessly barrage of pecks notice that if Cyndaquil couldn't stand he could try to roll out of it.
Just before another attack came close, Cyndaquil successfully and was finally able to stand. Regrettably a new problem came in the form of Spearow's speed and flight as no matter which direction Cyndaquil tried attacking. He couldn't land a single blow. Each time Cyndaquil tried to tackle, Spearow would use its flight ability to get away.
"Cyndaquil. You have to use a fire type attack" Izzy shouts as he notices the fire mouse struggle.
"Cynda?" The fire starter said with a confused expression. Unfortunately this distraction was enough for Spearow to land another blow.
"What do you mean you don't know? Don't you shoot flames out your back? Just do the same thing but with your mouth. The moment Spearow gets close to you, release it."
"Quiil!" The fire mouse roared following its trainers advice and just as the Spearow was about to nearly hit him. Cyndaquil released a massive ember on the Spearow covering it in ash. Seeing the Spearow hurt and burned but still standing, Cyndaquil charged with a full on tackle successfully knocking the bird out.
"Cyndaquil! Are you okay?" Izzy cried running quickly after assuring himself that the bird was out cold. The young trainer ran to his injured Pokémon with a potion on hand. Just looking at all the injuries the tiny bird caused was frightening. With haste Izzy started spraying Cyndaquil with the potion.
"Quil!" The Pokémon cheered showing it was healed to not worry his trainer. When he tried to stand. The fire mouse couldn't support his own weight and fell. Fortunately it wasn't because of any injury but that his stamina was completely out.
"Hold on Cyndaquil. I'll get something that should help you." Izzy says as he rushes to pick some Oran berries for his friend. Luckily when he tried to grab one, nothing else dived to his still aching chest. With a small struggle thanks to his height and the pain in his chest, he finally collected 15 Oran berries.
"Here eat one. From what I remembered in school these should help in restoring your strength." Izzy says holding the berry to Cyndaquil's mouth.
"Cynda!" The fire mouse shouted as he jumped around with joy.
"Was it good?" Izzy asked.
"Cyn." The starter nodded. "Cyn cynda?"
"Huh? I should eat one." Izzy said.
"Da." Again the Pokémon nodded.
"Alright." With a bit of hesitation at eating something found in the wild. The boy soon eats one and the effects are instantaneous. The pain in the boy's chest is quickly alleviated as if it was never there. "These things are amazing." The boy says in wonder. "Come here Cyndaquil. Let's stay here for a bit and just relax."
"Quil." The starter nodded.
Before the two can relax. Izzy soon notices the soot covered bird. With a heavy heart the boy gets up and grabs the terrifying bird.
"Cyndaquil cyn cynda!?" The mouse says angrily not understanding why his trainer would even touch it.
"Sorry. I know he was the one who started the fight. But it wouldn't be right to just leave it there with these wounds.
"Cyn." With a sigh the mouse sat down and tried to relax while his trainer continued to treat the Spearow. Of course with one eye open on the troublesome bird incase it tried attacking them again.
After two hours of rest, the duo were finally ready to continue their journey.
"Let's go, Cyndaquil. The map says that we are actually very close to Cherrygrove." Izzy says as he looks at the Map app of his Pokégear.
"Cyn da." The fire starter says excited at the thought of being able to visit a new place.
Spearow's POV
It was dark, very dark.
"Ra tatat?" (Hey! You okay?)
Huh? What the hell! Why is everything so dark?
"Ra ratata? (Hey! Are you going to finish those berries? Because if you're not. Can I eat them?)
And can someone please kill whoever is making that noise. Can't they see I'm trying to sleep? Wait. What? Why the hell am I asleep?
After figuring out that only my eyes were closed. I soon open them to finally see.
When finally I open my eyes. I caught the view of an annoying Rattata. Munching on a pile of Oran berries laying on the ground. The fuck, why am I laying on the ground and why does my body hurt.
"Spee row!?" (What the hell happened!?) I say in anger.
"Ratta." (You're awake.) The annoying rat says as he continued to eat
"Spear row spee." (Why the hell was I unconscious on the ground?)
"Rata at." (I don't know.)
(What do you mean you don't know? Then why are you fucking here?)
(Huhhh! You swore. Mom says that's a bad thing!)
(I don't fucking care! Why was I laying on the ground!?)
(I don't know! I was just following the scent of a human and his Cyndaquil. It led me here. Then I saw the berries on the ground and I just couldn't help myself!)
As the small rat continued to hysterically talk. I soon toned him out as the one thing he said brought a familiar memory.
A human and his Cyndaquil.
Why does that sound familiar? Wait... What?
Suddenly my memories of the battle came back as I remembered battling a blue and yellow mouse that shot flames and the cowardly human that continued to bark orders. But that can't be right. That couldn't be right because if that was true that would mean that I.... Lost.
I lost. No! That can't be right. How? How could I fucking lose to that boy and his stupid mouse? I was strong. The best Pokémon in this route. How could I lose? And that boy. How dare he. How dare he not capture me? What, was I not good enough to be caught?
"Speeee row!" (How dare he!) I screamed as I couldn't contain my anger
"Rat?" (What?) The rat spoke as soon as he heard me.
"Spea row ro?" (Which way did they go?)
"Tat?" (Who?) The rat says confused as if he didn't know who I was talking about.
"Spea ro row! Row speee row?" (The boy and his Cyndaquil! Which way did they fucking go?) I say angrily as the rat was wasting my time.
"Ra tara." (I don't know.) The rat says terrified.
"Sprear? Roow spear?" (How do you not know?! Weren't you following them?)
"Rata. tarata." (Not really. I was following their scent trail.)
"Sprea row." (Then hurry up and find it.)
"Tata. Rara tata!" (Uhhh! 'Sniff' 'Sniff' This way. They went this way!) The Rattata says pointing west in the direction of the human infested city.
Immediately I spread my wings and took flight but not before grabbing the purple rat and eating a few Oran berries.
"Ra ra rara" (Ow, ow, owow) The Rattata cried in pain as I lifted him into the air with my sharp talons.
"Tararata!" (I promise I don't taste good Mr. Spearow!) The rat says with tears in his eyes.
"Speaspea row." (I'm not going to eat you! You're my ticket to finding the human and the mouse.)
"Raratata." (Ehh? You're going to help me find him.)
"Spear speaar." (Only because I need that nose of yours.)
"Tatara!" (Thank you Mr. Spearow!) The Rattata says happy as he calms down.
That human is going to pay for ignoring me. I thought as I soared through the darkening sky.
