Writer's Commentary: Damsels Anonymous Volume 4, Part 2

Last week I posted the first part of my commentary on the fourth volume of Damsels Anonymous, along with the complete text of the book, all 600+ pages of it. Much like the story itself, my commentary was running a bit long so I split it into two, and here is the second part.

Last week I left things off with Shelly at the farm, one of my favorite sections of the book. Not only was it fun to truly punish Shelly for all of her misdeeds throughout the series, but I was also itching to do some mummification and encasement bondage, and got to do both with this segment, with Shelly being mummified by Jessica and Felicia, and then later with Lustra being encased in paper mache. I also got to introduce some fun characters in the form of sisters Alyssa and Gracy.

The character of Alyssa, the more aggressive of the sisters, is based off of fitness model Laura Valencia (also called Alessia). Originally I considered basing the sister Gracy off of former WWE diva Paige, but I decided that I wanted to go in a different direction with the character since most of the women in my stories are based off of fitness models, and instead decided to base the character off of curvy model Ashley Graham. 

With this segment of the story, I drew inspiration from a variety of sources. For the scene where Shelly is locked in a room and gagged, but uses the corner of a desk to pull her gag free, I took inspiration from an obscure Sam Jackson movie. I can't even remember the title, I saw it so long ago, but Sam plays a cop that gets caught by a family of criminals. They tie him to a chair and briefly gag him, and much like Shelly he uses the corner of a desk to work his gag free. The extended sequence with Shelly gagged in the mobile home was inspired by the film Cradle 2 the Grave, where the villains kidnap rapper 50 cent's daughter and keep her in a van until she proves too much trouble and they bind and gag her with duct tape. For a while, I wasn't sure how I wanted to end this segment and Shelly's torment, but inspiration came one fall day when I was at fall festival at a local farm. While there, I went on a hayride and there were several bales of hay with dummy legs sticking out of the end to simulate someone being stuck. As is usual, I came up with the idea that it would be better if someone was bound, gagged, and stuffed in the hay. Suddenly I came up with the idea of Shelly being bound, gagged, and thrown into a haybaler, coming out the other side wrapped in hay, and rolling off until she was needed in the next story. I don't know how realisitic it is for someone to go through a haybaler but I like the idea well enough so I just went with it.

The sort of "epilogue" to this story with Gracy bound and gagged on a treadmill was originally meant for Felicia, and I was going to have a scene where The Queen streams a video of her prisoner working out while in bondage, but I realized that since Alyssa is a fitness buff, she would think this would be the perfect punishment for her artistic sister. Plus, Felicia goes through quite a lot in this story.

At some point I came up with the idea to change Felicia's look in this story. Every now and then in wrestling there would be a "loser shaves head" match and inevitably the losing wrestler would have to be restrained while the winner shaves their head. I wanted to do something like this but didn't want to shave Felicia bald, but I came up with the idea of The Queen restraining and gagged her while giving her a shorter cut. Part of me thought that perhaps readers might object to her getting a new look, but as always, I decided to go through with it anyway. So far, the only person to really say anything was the long time reader who commissioned volumes 5 and 6, who kept asking if Felicia was going to grow her hair out again, to which I kept responding no, because I like her new look.

Then we get into the part of the story with Gina, Brad, and Lisa. I thought that the idea for setting up a relationship between Brad and Gina would be interesting, and it felt like at this point every character had sex except her. There was a bit of a temptation to keep her as the chaste good girl, but I found that giving her a love interest that would end up betraying her would add some extra dimension to her character. This was another portion of the story that I debated on too because of the couple in distress segment. The primary inspiration for this came from a short lived SyFy Channel show called BLOOD DRIVE where the two main characters are captured by Amazons, with the man unconscious and strapped to a car while the woman, played by Christina Ochoa, is bound and gagged and dragged alongside (she would get bound and gagged twice during the show's brief run). 

I came up with the image of Gina bound and gagged in a leather jacket and thong and nothing else, and at first just considered having Lisa sexually torment Gina in front of Brad and nothing else. Then the thought came to me to have Gina and Brad bound and gagged naked against each other alongside a ticking time bomb, and as they struggle they get more turned on. The couples scene from the film Knocking on Heaven's Door also proved to be a major influence as well. In the end, I figured folks would be a little more relaxed about this scene involving a guy if there was also a damsel and a sexual component to it. So far, everyone who's given me feedback about this has said that they really enjoyed it.

This segment is also the beginning of the corruption of Randy, who previously was a bit of a side character. To avoid going further for fear of spoilers, but this was something Destro and I concocted together for him, and we have plans for him in future stories. Surprisingly, one of my long term readers took issue with Randy's descent into villainy, stating that he always saw Randy as "The good guy" though I had to point out that Randy was always shown in these stories to be a pervert and a bit of a coward, so the promise of being able to do whatever he wanted to women would be something that appealed to him.

Randy's obsession with Lisa was also born out of writing 5 before I finished 4. When my client and I came up with the story for volume 5, I realized that Lisa, Shelly's henchwoman, was conspicuously absent. I toyed with a few ideas for her in the story, including one inspired by a scene in the 1966 Batman show where the caped crusaders are tied up and then covered with a goop that is then shaped into surfboards. I wanted to do something similar with Lisa where she is Anya ties her down and covers her with the goop but runs out just below Lisa's chin, but the bikini thief would leave Lisa encased like that. Ultimately, I decided not to include this scene, but soon came up with an idea to explain her absence in volume 5. Randy would develop an obsession with Lisa that Brad would exploit and use to control Randy. I had always wanted to write a scene where a bound and gagged damsel is disguised by being covered in scarfs, sunglasses, and a trenchcoat, and thought this would be a perfect opportunity for that. The end, with Lisa a prisoner of Randy in a neighboring town, would explain her absense in volume 5 while setting up future storylines. Needless to say, this won't be the last we see of Carter's Cove and the characters Randy meets there.

Then we get to the segment with the milf FBI agents. As I said in my commentary for volume 3, originally these characters were going to have their own story that would be stand alone but set in the Damsels Anonymous universe. I decided to work them into this story though in their original tale they weren't FBI agents, just women on vacation. I made some changes, such as including Janet, Eva, and Caitlyn as prisoners of Shana, who was originally going to be hauled off on the boat alongside everyone else but that changed once this story became part of DA volume 4. If you recall, I replaced one of the agents, with the character of Maria being replaced by Marta. As you all know, I base my characters off of Instagram models, and the woman that Maria was inspired by revealed that she had cancer. Thankfully, she's made a recovery, but at the time I felt funny including her in this story after she revealed her battle with the illness so I came up with a new character based on model Mariza Villareal. The character of Tammy is based off model Tamara Jordon, while Trish is based off of Patti Raisor, and Shana and Autumn are based off of Sommer and Shannon Ray. 

I also really enjoyed writing this segment as well and these characters, whom I thought were all very fun to write. This also contains probably my favorite scene in volume 4, which is the laser tag seduction/kidnapping scene. 

I can't tell you how turned on I got writing this scene. I loved the imagery of Marta in a day-glo bikini under black lights and the thrill of a very public sex scene turned into a public kidnapping. At the time I thought it was one of the sexiest things I had ever written because of the build up and anticipation and sex scene turned kidnapping and I still think it is. 

As much as I enjoyed writing these characters, most of them were really only intended to be one off characters. I don't want DA to be overblown with characters, and with most of these characters being shipped off in a boat, it felt like a good place to end it. That's not saying that we won't see them again, as some of these ladies may reappear in future stories, albeit in a much smaller role. Obviously, I have future plans for Shana. I'm so happy that most readers seemed to react positively to her character, and given the deal Caitlyn makes with her, means we'll see her again soon.

Obviously, the last bit of this volume includes Janet and Caitlyn's escape and rescue of the other girls. The first attempted escape was inspired a scene in the Justice League cartoon where Wonder Woman's mother Hippolyta gets captured by some villains and the heroic Amazon pursues. The villains handgag Hippolyta until Wonder Woman backs off and then chain her up, so in this story I had Caitlyn take Hippolyta's place and both she and janet get bound and gagged again. 

Later, we get to Shana's mansion, where Janet and Caitlyn are wedgied by being hung on coat hooks before being a part of a kinky roleplay between Shana and Eva. An image from an Avengers comic of Hawkeye and Butler Jarvis bound, gagged, and hung on hooks was my primary inspiration for this, though I love wedgie bondage so I couldn't resist having them be hanging from their thongs. The roleplay is inspired by a Borderlands bound video where two women are doing a bondage roleplay together but then get bound and gagged by an intruder. 

Of course, after escaping, Caitlyn must return to Shana and Eva to ask for their help. I knew that I wanted her to offer herself to them in exchange for their assistance, and originally I was going to have them take her up on that offer, but during the rescue both Eva and Shana would find themselves enamored with the bound and gagged Jessica. Seeing an opportunity, Caitlyn would let her former captors keep Jessica in exchange for letting her go, which they would accept. I realized that given Shana's dedication to her daughter, that would become her primary motivation, while Eva would want to become a cop again because she enjoys the power. It also seemed out of character for Caitlyn to allow someone else to be kidnapped in her place, though I did want this to be a choice to come back and haunt her later. In the end, I still had Shana abduct Jessica, but through her own means, and Caitlyn's promise to Shana will indeed be something that she'll come to regret. 

As for the end, it was late in the writing process when I realized that I wanted Vera, the Queen's loyal subject, to turn on her. Originally I was just going to have it that The Queen gets arrested by Felicia at the end, while Vera also becomes a prisoner of Shana and Eva. After all that The Queen did, it felt unsatisfying to just have her be arrested and that be the end of it. Then I came up with the idea that Vera, loyal to a fault to The Queen, would turn on her, jealous at the attention she was giving Felicia. At first when I came up with Vera, I just wanted her to be a henchwoman for The Queen, just some muscle, and based her off of the model Vanth. The Queen being betrayed by one of her own and becoming a prisoner felt like the ultimate ironic ending for her, especially since, as Felicia put it, Vera can punish The Queen in ways she can't even imagine. I've had a few people ask me if we'll see more of The Queen and Vera later on, and all I can say is to keep reading. This volume introduced a bunch of fun new characters, and I'm sure that plenty of them will be popping up here and there. Volume 4 plants the seeds for many future DA stories that I can't wait to write and can't wait for you to read!
