Red Sonja Bondage Story with Writer's Commentary

It's time for another classic Deviantart repost, with commentary! Though it wasn't planned this way, posting my Red Sonja story is a good follow up to my captive sorceress tale from last week seeing how both are sexy fantasy/swords and sorcery bondage tales. This was my third story for Deviantart after Lara Croft and Black Scorpion, and much like those two damsels, I wrote this story mainly because Red Sonja has a severe lack of bondage/damsel in distress situations.

Sonja is actually an interesting case because if you do a quick search you'll find that there's plenty of art depicting her bound, in chains, or in peril, but rarely does it feature the She-Devil bound and gagged, even in the fan-art. It's a shame because Sonja's skimpy armor makes her prime damsel fodder, and long have I fantasized about her getting the "full treatment". 

Like my previous stories, I hadn't fully planned this one out and just made it up as I went. Sadly, that came up to bite me in the ass as I hit a wall with this one and didn't know how to end it and wrap up all the plot threads that I had dangling. So I left this one dangling for quite a while and went to work on my first Phantom Lady story and a second Lara Croft story (which we'll get to down the road). You think I would have learned by this one to plan out my stories but at this point I was still doing this as a hobby whenever I had free time or when the mood struck me. 

One of the main reasons why it took me so long to finish this one is because this was one of the first times I was getting overtly sexual in my stories. Though I had lesbian undertones in previous stories, in this story I took it further. I keep saying that with my stories I keep pushing the envelope to see when someone tells me that I went "too far" but to date, no one has. Looking back on this story now, it's still pretty tame compared to many of the stories I've written after, but at the time I was worried that I was getting too sexual. The scene in question is when the female warrior Aela has Sonja bound and gagged and goes down on her. When we get to the "moment", I cut away, allowing my readers to fill in the gap with their imagination, but when I first posted this story I was worried that I went too far. Now I see that I didn't go far enough haha. Either way, after that I wasn't quite sure where to go with this story, and when I did write more, I once again worried that I went too far with the scene where Thulsa Doom tries to force Sonja into giving him oral sex, only to result in her biting off his penis (most of which is implied). Though once again, no one seemed to object to this moment.

Like my previous stories, many of the situations in this one are inspired by other bondage scenes, mostly featuring male characters with Sonja in their place, but this is also where I started inserting my own ideas into the story. The opening scene, where Sonja is stuck to a magnetic pole as a sacrifice for a gelatinous monster, is taken from one of the classic Conan short stories. The Conan scene is pretty close to my Sonja version, complete with Conan getting stuck to a pole and betrayed by a companion. Like Sonja, Conan protests at this betrayal, prompting his treasonous companion to gag him with a rag, and the rest of the scene follows the bound and gagged Conan struggling as the monster closes in on him. I added in the extra humiliation that Sonja has to escape by slipping out of her armor, which was a sexy bit that I couldn't resist. 

Sonja getting captured in the bar is actually a combination of two scenes, the first being the scene where Prince Phillip gets bound and gagged by Maleficent's forces in the classic SLEEPING BEAUTY, and the second being a scene from an old Prince Valiant comic where the titular prince enters a bar where villains lie in wait, and in the next panel we see him tied and gagged until the bad guys move him. So basically while the Valiant scene jumps from showing the kidnappers lying in wait to show the Prince bound and gagged, I filled in the blanks by describing the bad guys jumping out to bind and gag Sonja. Next was the scene where Sonja leaves Aela bound, gagged, and naked in the woods, which was inspired by a clip I saw online of a man tying a woman to a tree branch and stripping her. I wish I could tell you guys the name of the movie but I honestly don't know, it seemed to be a low budget, B-movie from the 70s, possibly a foreign film. Sadly the scene didn't have the woman get gagged, so I added that. 

As stated above, I wasn't sure how to end it. Many, many scenarios ran through my head as to how to wrap up this story, but none were really satisfactory to me. Eventually, at some point I stumbled across a piece of art on Deviantart of two muscular woman arm wrestling each other while a naked man, tied to a tree and gagged, watched. This gave me the final bit of inspiration I needed to wrap it up, and I came up with the idea of Kar and Aela dueling for who gets control of Sonja, while the helpless and gagged Sonja can only watch. The rest of the scenes in this story are purely from my imagination, and I'm particularly proud of the scene where Aela uses arrows to pin Sonja to a wagon, and we cut to Sonja, bound, gagged, and being carried over Aela's shoulder. There's something so humiliating to me about how Sonja has to play the damsel to try and escape and gets a gag as a punishment, but also I like how it's an off-screen gag. While on-screen gags are fun and sexy, sometimes I like having my readers use their imagination, and Aela approaching Sonja with a gag in hand to cutting to Sonja bound and gagged was too sexy of a transition to pass up. I'm also very proud of the scene where Sonja and Aela are apprehended outside the tavern by Doom's men, particularly how Sonja is bound and gagged and unable to warn Aela of the man sneaking up behind her.

As a final note, one of the antagonists, Kar, shares a name with the character of Kar from my "A Captive Sorceress" story. So is this the same character? Well, I always struggle with character names, and when writing my "Captive Sorceress" story, I just recycled the name because I liked it. The Kar in this story is a deceitful rogue, out for himself, though that isn't quite different from the Kar in my Sorceress story. I suppose that if you wanted to, you could infer that the Kar in this tale is a much older, more jaded version of the youth we meet in the sorceress story. Seeing how Kar comes to a violent end at the hands of Sonja in this one, perhaps this is where Kar's journey ends many years after the events of "A Captive Sorceress"? I'll leave that for you to decide, dear reader.
