Yea we agree, Zoro not brushing everything under the rug and instead making everyone face reality really helped flesh out his character imo. We can't say we've seen something like this in other shounens so props to One Piece!

She does a live pikachu demonstration. ‘Better not be a grown ass man’…you forgot she was on maternity leave during the water seven arc.😂 I think Zoro earned a lot of respect during this episode. Remember he said he won’t forgive Usopp unless the first thing that comes out of his mouth was an apology.Hence when Chopper told him Usopp was talking to him, he said he didn’t hear anything. Zoro and Luffy were giving Usopp a chance to rejoin so they were deliberately ignoring anything Usopp said until he apologized. I think it also lines up with Zoro’s character. Remember in alabasta, he did not agree with Luffy on saving Smoker, but because it was Captain’s orders, he followed it. Zoro’s respect and loyalty to Luffy is why for me, he is the vice captain of the crew.
