High Artificer, Ch 32: Sovereign (Double)

Sam watched with folded arms as Asperio struggled within the river of Lightning.

It was a massive current that cut through the Void, its path twisting and jagged. It existed as a natural condensation of mana that ran between the stars, one of the many wonders the Void produced.

The man was slowly adapting as he learned to merge his domain with the natural power of the river. He’d been too cautious at first and had been thrown around with every wild current, but now he was beginning to leap with the lightning rather than against it, learning to go with his impulses and the instant surge of mana as he jumped to a new location.

He wouldn’t have survived this before, but since Sam had helped him to alter his physique and gain a perfect affinity with Lightning, he was able to exist within the river.

His subclass was supposed to be the Archmage of Shattered Chains, which showed that he’d stepped foot on this path to the freedom of Lightning, but this lesson should bring him the rest of the way.

Time passed as hours blended into days, all flowing endlessly through the darkness, but eventually, Asperio fully merged with the river.

His body resembled a lightning elemental as he flowed from one current to the next, leaping from point to point without difficulty. Even if his leap carried him against the flow of energy, he was still able to move through the river, leaping like a silver bolt.

Good enough,” Sam said as he reached into the river. His hand was golden and crackled with lightning as he pulled Asperio out.

The new High Councilor looked ethereal, his body made up of silver bolts tinted violet. His fingers were jagged bolts that faded in and out of existence and his hair was a wild storm around his head and back. Lightning surged along his limbs and through his meridians.

This was what Asperio looked like when traveling as a Lightning Flash through the skies, but he’d never been able to maintain the state before.

Now he resembled a spirit of Lightning, similar to Sam’s own ability for Spirit of Astral Flame.

He’d fully comprehended it.

Turn back,” Sam told him. “You should be able to enter that state at will now. Although perhaps it’s more precise to say that you are always in that state. You can just choose when to show it. Your affinity has fully developed.

Asperio concentrated for a moment and then his body began to swiftly change back to a more human appearance. Soon only the wild mess of his hair remained, filled with silver sparks that crackled as they faded away and reappeared a moment later.

“Teacher,” Asperio said as he bowed his head. “Thank you.”

His words were solemn and Sam could feel how much he meant them.

You’re welcome,” Sam said simply. “You have a stronger foundation now. Eventually, it shouldn’t be a problem for you to deal with two or three of the High Council on your own, but you’ll need to keep practicing. Now, come with me.

He raised his hand and a silver portal appeared, one that hung in the Void like a pool of eternity.

“Where are we going?” Asperio asked, but he didn’t hesitate as he stepped forward.

To see the council,” Sam replied. “It’s time to introduce you properly.”

“What about my position as Headmaster of the academy?” Asperio asked. His words were clear and vibrant.

He was ready to follow Sam anywhere, but that question lingered on his mind.

I know just the person to replace you,” Sam said with a smile. “I think you two will get along. He’s finishing his own breakthrough to the Sixth Evolution, so I’ll bring him by later.”

The High Council normally appointed the headmaster, since it was such a delicate position, but Sam had no issue taking that decision out of their hands.

Keros would make an excellent headmaster.

He’d watched over Aster Fall for eons and had probably missed being with others of his own race, not to mention having more people to talk to in general.

It was time for him to return to the main galaxy.

Sam wasn’t worried about the choice causing trouble. The council should have no issue with a Cer’Aleth as the headmaster, but even if they did, it wasn’t enough to concern him.

The academy would be a good place for Keros to adjust to his new status as the second Sixth Evolution being among the Cer’Aleth and he would be close enough to support Asperio as needed.

Asperio didn’t ask any more questions. He just inclined his head in a show of trust in Sam.

Without any more delay, the two of them passed through the portal and into the center of the high council chamber.

Welcome to the Silver Hall,” Sam said as he looked around.

Winter was absent, but the remaining five councilors were in their seats: the Dragon Spirit, Mountain Dwarf, Lifeweaver, Archali, and Kiran of the Cer’Aleth.

They all froze as they saw the portal open and Sam step through, but since they didn’t dare to meet his gaze or look too long, their eyes landed on Asperio instead. Flickers of interest and curiosity, as well as a trace of disdain, passed through their auras.

Sam released a wave of astral energy that suppressed the area and silenced their thoughts. Then he indicated Asperio.

I have brought the new High Councilor for humanity,” he announced. “You have all met before, so introductions are unnecessary. You may catch up on your own. But know this, humanity is a full member of the High Council, holding equal status with all of you. Asperio’s strength is also on par with yours.

With that, he turned his attention to the room itself. There were nine seats in a circle surrounding a table that curved around in front of them, but the table was a ring instead of a full circle. It provided a space at the center for illusions or recordings to be played, or for someone to be interviewed.

His aura poured into the enchantments on the hall as he began to adjust the structure.

The table was a complete ring, but now one side of it pulled apart, separating until it created an opening near the High Seat where the Titans had always sat. Then the circle expanded. The chairs slid back as the floor shifted, making the circle bigger.

The High Seat was the center of the enchantments here, so Sam didn’t move it. Instead, he moved the rest of the circle around it. The ring shifted, moving until the High Seat was situated in the gap while the ring of the table came up to its sides but didn’t quite touch it.

A new seat formed, springing into existence beside the High Seat, and then the ring shifted until all nine seats were situated equidistant around it.

Now, the High Seat looked unique, sitting alone while the arc of the table started at each side. It resembled a throne more than ever, while the table looked like the seating for the ruler’s advisors.

The back of each seat was marked with a symbol for the race that held it. The Winged Furies had a white wing, while the Dragon Spirits had a diamond-shaped golden scale.

Humanity didn’t have a symbol of its own, so Sam created one for them, carving a simple golden sphere onto the back of their chair. He also placed the human seat directly across from the High Seat, while the other seats marched around the ring.

If he put it next to the High Seat, the councilors might complain about favoritism or try to argue that the ends of the table were for weaker members or something similar, so he negated that argument before it began and stuck it in the middle.

They might still argue about his choice of placement, but they could figure it out on their own. Asperio just needed to hold his ground.

The humans will take this seat at the table,” he said as he indicated the chair. “There will be no favoritism or claims of precedence.”

A wave of silver and gold runes rose up from the floor of the chamber, swirling through the area as he reestablished the wards and wove the new seat into the overall structure.

Then a part of the runes flowed toward Asperio and sank into his aura, linking him to the new High Seat as the Silver Hall recognized him as a councilor and granted him the standard authority over the wards and enchantments here.

Asperio stood there, his body flickering with flashes of silver and violet lightning, as he looked around the room. If it had been a few weeks before, he might have been overwhelmed by the sudden changes, but now he looked bold and authoritative.

There was a spark of brilliant vitality in his eyes, along with a powerful presence that promised to fight for every inch of advantage.

Sam looked him over and nodded in approval.

Before now, Asperio had always bowed his head to the council and tried not to make a wave. He’d walked on eggshells as he balanced one whim against another, trying to stay out of the tides of politics and protect the academy.

Those days were over.

The vitality of Lightning radiated from him, ready to crash through any barrier. He would be the councilor humanity needed to bring them together.

It was long past due.

Sam had asked the Path of Stars about humanity’s origin, since it was strange that they were so widely scattered without a region to call their own.

Apparently, humanity had been born on a world in the Borderlands, just on the edge of the Chaos Wild, and their world had been destroyed in a war with a Vos’Rekan during the early settlement of the galaxy.

It was so long ago that barely anyone remembered it, but humanity had been fortunate in that they always loved to explore. They’d spread out widely among other worlds even before their homeland was destroyed and so they hadn’t perished.

From that rocky beginning, they had flourished on a thousand worlds, including on Aster Fall. They hadn’t always been accepted by the other races, but they had always fought to survive. It made them some of the most tenacious beings in the galaxy.

Now they finally had a chance to come into their own.

Learn well from the other High Councilors,” he told Asperio, “stay focused on what is best for humanity and for the galaxy. Remember that other galaxies exist, as do old threats. Do not become complacent. Prepare well, and I will help you to rise.”

With that, Sam gave Asperio a nod and then disappeared in a field of silver stars.

When he reappeared, it was in his hall.

He settled down on his throne and set an avatar to keep an eye on Asperio, just to make sure the other councilors didn’t try to kill him. If it was anything short of that, he wasn’t going to interfere for a while.

Asperio needed time to adjust to his new role and the other councilors needed time to get to know him. They could sort it out among themselves.

Sam turned his attention to bigger issues.

He had to establish the human domain that he’d promised and elevate humanity to the status of a High Race, which meant improving their Class structure, bloodlines, and more.

It required a complete remodeling of the basic affinities for humanity and building them powerful default paths that were at least as strong as the ones the other High Races had.

He needed to look into the old records for what the Titans had done for the other High Races and then see how he could apply his own skills to do something similar.

It would take a while, but he would manage.

The World Core should be able to help. It had ages of data on humanity, bloodlines, and unique evolutions. His own mastery of the elements and dimensional energy was also a key factor. It would be easiest for him to help humanity along those lines.

Before all of that, however, there was something even more critical.

He looked up at the open Void and he could see the slow swirl of experience and essence that was appearing from every direction as it pooled around his main body.

The time he had spent helping Asperio had given his avatars a chance to finish their hunt. He took a deep breath as he felt the experience flow into him.

It gathered slowly, radiating from him as it filled his hall.

At the same time, he became aware of a strange barrier. It pressed on his spirit, half real but so profound that it felt like time was weighing down on him. He’d never felt it before, but now it seemed like it had always been there restraining him in some way.

As his experience became more concentrated, the barrier began to waver like it was eternal and illusory at the same time.

Understanding flowed into his mind as the Void unfurled and suddenly he knew what it was. It was the barrier to a higher realm, a line that could only be passed by a Truth of the Void.

By becoming part of the greater reality that governed existence.

His experience had just reached the amount needed for Level 600 and he felt the barrier thinning. He had enough energy to force through it, but he felt like he needed to wait for something else that was about to happen.

It was like the Void itself was waiting with him, a silent companion that had always been there that would now stand as a witness to this moment of change.

He already knew what it was.

He waited, letting more essence gather from his avatars, and he could feel the barrier growing thinner as the Sixth Star approached as well.

Both needed to happen at once. If they didn’t, he would waste this opportunity.

He only had one chance to engrave his Truth into the Heart of the Void and he needed to do it at the Sixth Star as well as at the Sixth Evolution.

Fortunately, it wouldn’t be long. The amount of essence that his avatars were gathering from the Deep Void was enormous and it was just behind the level of experience they’d gained.

He looked out at the stars in the darkness as he studied the Void, and he could feel it studying him back.

Laws were beginning to rotate around him now, tilting toward him as time and space bent. The Heart of the Void was rising up to meet him, or perhaps he was falling down to where Truth and Chaos merged.

With each star that ignited in his essence constellation, the barrier became a little thinner. It was fading on its own.

His essence constellation was a massive thing, a galaxy spreading outward filled with vitality and starlight. Silver energy spiraled through it, strands of chaos and timeless force shimmering with his Law.

There was only a single final star that was dark. It spun with force as strands of silver fire reached it. The entire force of a galaxy pressed inward on that single point.

Normally, only his Law would have ignited the Sixth Star, but his Evolutions had led him on a path of Primal Chaos and that energy was present in his essence constellation as well. It was also pouring into the star.

Threads of silver and grey energy condensed as the star began to turn more quickly, becoming a whirlpool of force. The pressure radiating from it was so intense it felt like it was more real than the universe.

His entire existence was being focused to that point, all of the power he’d built up across five Stars and five Evolutions.

The final sparks of essence from his avatars joined in, fusing into the star.

And it ignited.

A silver spark appeared in the very depth of the star. It felt distant and eternal, like seeing a single star in the night sky, so far away that it was barely perceptible, but it was growing larger.

The spark expanded, flaring outward in a massive conflagration.

And then it exploded.

The Sixth Star swept outward, breaking through reality as its power filled him.  Where before there had been a hundred million stars across the galaxy of his soul, now there was only a single burning star that encompassed everything.

It was pure silver and full of potential.

Echoes of possibility surrounded it, as if it could be anything and everything. It was ageless and timeless, spreading outward in a single perfect instance.

And then time froze.

His mind felt strange, as if everything had become unreal. As he looked at that star, it was unmoving, caught in that moment of explosion.

The moment was full of truths, of the depths of the Void, as if every Law was hanging there, waiting for him to see it, to make his choice.

All of that energy had to go somewhere, to become something.

His hall was frozen around him, as was everything else in every direction that he could see. Laws and runes hung shining in their operation, but the Void was still there and it was trembling as his body radiated power of a type he’d never had before.

Like the Sixth Star itself, his energy had reached a point where the space he was in could no longer contain him. Dimensional space was twisting, resonating as it harmonized with the awakening Truth of his existence.

His existence was overpowering reality.

This time, there was no voice of the Path of Stars or the World Core to explain things. The Void was open to him, showing him its mysteries.

He felt the Heart of the Void opening, swelling like a great dark well of power at the center of all things. Colors spun through existence, darkness turning to light and then back to darkness in a cascade of impossible rainbow hues, shades that didn’t exist and never had but could if time and space began again.

At that moment, he finally understood what the Sixth Evolution was.

This was the true Evolution, the moment of singularity and change. It was when individual power grew strong enough to overwrite external reality. It was like a black hole forming among the stars, so powerful that it bent space around itself

The others were just paving the way, lesser versions that existed to ease the transition.

A voice echoed in his mind from the Heart of the Void.

Evolution Commencing.

It was an echo of his own voice reflected back to him, as well as others that came from distant galaxies, all connected as one.

He'd merged Primal Chaos into his Sixth Star and now the same chaos was welling up from the Heart of the Void, flowing around his limbs as it condensed into reality.

He felt himself changing, beginning to flow away into the origin of all things as his spirit reached for the Truth of everything, but it wasn’t possible to contain it all.

If he had prepared differently, he might have despaired at that moment, unprepared for the enormity of Chaos, but he had walked this path so far.

And the Heart of the Void was his.

The great Chaos of all Truths reached up and pulled him in. A ripple of space passed outward as a dark silver layer surrounded him.

He took a deep breath of timeless chaos as he looked around.

Truths of the world and how everything worked poured into his mind, all of it comprehended in that single timeless instant as he saw through the veil of reality between what was and what could be.

He had to choose, to find one Truth that would allow him to endure among the others. He had too much power now to exist without it.

The rest would be left as impressions on his soul and he would be forever changed by having seen them. This was the full Truth of Chaos, everything working together as one.

Even as he studied it, his existence was merging with the Heart of the Void, becoming unbound as the endless possibilities flowed through his mind.

Still, he felt no sense of pressure.

His eyes shone like silver stars, blazing brighter by the moment as threads of primal chaos began to flow across them. They were turning grey at the edges, but he smiled as he drew in a deep breath of chaos and breathed it out again.

For all the danger inherent in this Evolution, he was a Titan and even on the edge of destruction, he felt the sense of unlimited potential for what could be. He saw the breadth of his existence from beginning to end.

All the possibilities for what he could be were reflected in his eyes, each a facet of the endless Void.

Among them was a new possibility, one that flowed with Primal Chaos and that had never existed in the Void before, the spark of a new Truth that still held the power of its origin.

A Class of Primal Chaos.

It was to that one that he turned his attention.

It was not a normal Evolution, but rather something that had become possible through the strength of his earlier Evolutions and the Fourth and Fifth Star, which had already connected with Primal Chaos. This was taking it to another level and fully embracing the Path that he’d chosen.

He looked back at his earlier Abilities and he could see where they led.

First, his Fourth Evolution Abilities:

Stellar Conversion (Level 400):

Opposing forces are fuel to your flames. You have gained the ability to tear apart the aura, elemental, and dimensional energy of opposing forces and make their energy your own. You also gain the ability to condense your flames into physical matter, whether it is a scroll parchment or something more complex. The complexity of the item you can create relies on your Intelligence and Aura attributes.

Stellar Infusion (Level 450):

Creations made by your hand now have the ability to increase in level based on their experiences. This ability can be applied to previous creations as well.

And then his Fifth Star Abilities:

Sovereign of Primal Runes:

You are the Sovereign of Primal Runes and hold the chaotic nature of runes within your grasp. Just as they were born from chaos, so too can they be reduced to chaos, and at your command, they shape reality.

The energy required for you to form runes has been reduced to almost nothing. It is drawn from the Void and supported by natural laws and your domain.

By the same power, the enchantments you create echo with primal energy, gaining permanence within the Void. They will not fail unless you wish them to or they are broken by another force.

Additionally, you can take control of lower-ranked enchantments based on runes and turn them to your own purpose.

Mandate of Chaos:

By your command, all will be reduced to chaos.

This Ability infuses the area around you with an echo of primal energy that breaks bonds, shatters laws, and divides domains, ordering everything to return to the First Moment.

The strength of this ability relies on the power of your domain and your understanding of chaos, as well as your ability to shatter the energy around you.

Those Abilities had set him on this road, laying the foundation for a deeper grasp of Chaos, something that he usually wouldn’t have seen until near the end of the Sixth Evolution.

But he’d done it early and now he was looking at what two complete Evolutions connected to Primal Chaos could do.

He already knew he was going to choose it.

He reviewed the Truth again, just to make sure that it wasn’t changing as he watched, and then he confirmed his choice.

At the same time, his Sixth Star finished its explosion, unleashing all of the energy it contained in a massive wave that swept over him and redefined his existence.

The Void spoke.

A New Sovereign Has Ascended!

All Hail, the Sovereign of Silver Chaos!

May your reign endure for as long as the Void itself.

His body crackled as pure threads of Primal Chaos appeared in the depths of his soul and then leapt outward where they began to revolve around him in a massive whirlpool.

Primal chaos flowed through every part of his existence, redefining what was possible.

An understanding of what was happening appeared in his mind, echoing with his own voice.

The Sovereign of Silver Chaos is one of the Eternal Sovereigns of Chaos.

Throughout the endless expanse of the Void, there are a few fleeting moments when a Sovereign is born. Each of them holds a fraction of Primal Chaos in their grasp, which allows them to transcend the regular bounds of the Void.

The name of Ascension for the Sixth Evolution comes from these Sovereigns, the whispers of their existence that surpasses the bounds of reality.

It is rare for a Sovereign to be born. Becoming one is a nearly impossible path, requiring the equivalent of leaping two Evolutions ahead of others as your existence slowly fuses with Primal Chaos.

Each step has to be placed perfectly to succeed, forming a Truth of Chaos that has never existed before, one that exists outside of time and space.

Until now, only two prior Sovereigns have existed, each of them far from your galaxy.

You are the Third Sovereign of Chaos.

A Sovereign is born by exceeding the Class system, and therefore this is not a Class.

It is a Title and a state of existence.

As you are an Astral Titan, one of the Primordial Races, your Ascension is also a singularity that merges your experience and essence together, returning it all to Primal Chaos. At your will, one can be changed into the other.

All Abilities and Skills you hold have become Innate Abilities.

The tiers of your Abilities can now be upgraded to Mythic, a level which can only be reached by infusing them with elements of Primal Chaos.

Your existence also gives rise to new Abilities unique to you.

You have gained the Innate Ability: Truth of Silver Chaos.

[Your Truth holds part of Primal Chaos within, existing eternally beyond time and space, engraved in the Heart of the Void. If your form is destroyed, you will be born again from your Truth.]

You have gained the Innate Ability: Sovereign of Silver Chaos.

[Your Title is your Dominion. By your command, energy within your domain returns to Primal Chaos, from which it can be born again in a new form.

The energy you command is defined by the Truth of Silver Chaos, thus all you create holds the potential for starlight, runes, and the elements, the powers that are closest to you. Within your domain, your presence exists eternally within these elements. You can hear the words spoken near any source of your power, travel to any point that your Truth can reach, and exert your influence over anything related to it.]

You have gained the Innate Ability: Word of Eternity.

[That which the Sovereign of Silver Chaos preserves will endure through the ages of the Void, timeless and eternal. Chaos is ever changing, but at your command, matter and energy can be frozen in time and space and become untouched by entropy, regardless of whether it is a material object or a concept like a Law. Your Word will exist forever.]

The words faded away, merging into the wave of chaos that was flowing through every part of him.

The hall around Sam was wavering, alternately changing from feeling real to ethereal, as if it were unsure of whether or not it existed. Parts of the pillars were disappearing and then reappearing in different forms, streaked with types of stone that had never existed in this galaxy.

It felt as if reality had turned to a storm wind, one that was about to sweep away all that was and replace it with something else randomly chosen.

Sam’s eyes snapped open and a wave of silver energy radiated out from him.

It was a different type of energy than before and it held a sense of primal authority, as if it were the first energy that had ever existed in the Void.

As that energy passed, the hall became still and then snapped back into existence. It looked almost the same as it had before his Evolution, but now it radiated with meaning and age, as if it had somehow existed since the beginning of time.

Before, the pillars might have been damaged if someone attacked them fiercely enough, but now it felt like nothing except the end of the ages could shake their existence. Their presence towered into the Void, endless and eternal.

Sam let out a breath as he felt his sense of self solidify and he took stock of the changes.

It had been a delicate moment there, one where a stray thought might have changed everything, but it had come together.

He turned his attention to his status sheet.

Sam Hastern.

Sovereign of Silver Chaos.

Level 600.

Race: Astral Titan (Primordial).

Age: Eternal.

Origin: Primal Chaos.

Dominion: Starlight, Runes, and the Elements.

His old description of Primary Class and Subclass had disappeared. So had his Essence Constellation. Everything had been merged into one.

Now there was only that single Title as a Sovereign.

It was a Truth that was his own, a Title he'd chosen instinctively. Now it had replaced his old classes.

His subclass would normally have gained him an additional Ability at Level 600 when he upgraded it, but he had a feeling that anything it could have given him was something that he could do now anyway, so he couldn’t complain.

His Truth wasn’t listed on his status sheet either, probably because it was redundant. His Title as a Sovereign was his Truth.

His age had changed, replaced by a simple statement of “Eternal,” as if it wasn’t something that could be quantified any longer. With the way he’d just experienced chaos, perhaps that was for the best.

It had already been strange to talk about his age before since he was living a life through every avatar at once, effectively 30 times more than anyone around him, and he also shared the ancestral memories of the Titans, which stretched back to the birth of the galaxy from chaos.

Now he felt like he’d walked the galaxy since the beginning of time, but also since just a moment before.

Time was strange.

There were new lines on his status sheet for his Origin and Dominion. He’d never seen anything like that before in someone’s status.

He wasn’t sure where they had come from, but he had the feeling he’d put them there himself, like an intuition that had come from the Void and told him they belonged.

His Origin felt obvious, since he thought everything had been born from Primal Chaos, but perhaps that wasn’t true.

There could be things out there that defied his concept of existence.

As for his Dominion, that was a brief description of the areas that belonged to him. He’d laid claim to them, basically. There was a new awareness of those areas in his mind, making it feel like he was connected to every version of them in existence.

All of the stars, runes, and elements of the Void.

Wherever something related to his domain existed, there he was.

His domain had expanded until it covered a massive area around him, stretching to the edge of the galaxy and beyond. His Truth was passing through the Heart of the Void, which meant distance was immaterial.

It became harder to sense things beyond the edge of the stars where the Great Dark began, but he could faintly sense other stars that he might be able to reach if he tried. He could see them in his mind’s eye, shining like beacons in the dark.

It should have been overwhelming, but it wasn’t. It was like he was lying in a field of grass sensing all the billions of things that were moving around him, but unless one of those stalks of grass suddenly shouted his name, it wasn’t really getting his attention.

He could look at it if he chose, but he didn’t have to.

If someone spoke his name in starlight, or near a rune, or within a pure concentration of the elements, he would hear them and know what was happening, no matter where they were.

Then he knew he could step through to be there, as easily as breathing, or he could just connect to the mind of the person who’d spoken his name, with that as a channel.

If he wanted to pick a star or a rune and travel there, he could do that too, but it would be fairly random.

He'd heard rumors of beings who could be summoned just by speaking their name, and now it seemed like he had become one.

It was interesting, but after studying it for a while, he moved on and considered what else he’d learned.

He’d become an Eternal Sovereign of Chaos.

He’d never heard of it before. He thought it might be at the root of the Seventh Evolution that Outsiders whispered about, but the Void hadn’t revealed that to him. He only had a feeling of something endless, as if perhaps there were more realms beyond this one, but he couldn't tell.

Perhaps they hadn’t yet been born from chaos.

Importantly, the Void had told him there were two other Sovereigns before him, but he didn’t know who they were.

He had the feeling one might be on the other side of the Nexus, the origin of the Outsiders’ strength and their bloodline inheritances, but he wasn’t sure.

As for the other Sovereign, they existed somewhere far away in the depths of the universe. He could feel that much. He doubted he would ever come into contact with them, but it wasn’t impossible.

Eternity was a long time.

He turned his attention to his attributes next, which had grown massively from the infusion of essence and experience of reaching Level 600 and the Sixth Star.

As an afterthought, he added the final free points from his levels into Charisma, like usual, even though it was barely a drop in the bucket.

STR: 211,712

CON: 238,674

AGI: 94,394

WIS: 46,249

INT: 374,013

AUR: 374,013

CHA: 65,269

His attributes were enormous now, but he had the feeling that they didn’t mean too much compared to the power of the Truth that infused his existence.

Primal Chaos couldn’t be defined by attributes.

Still, they were part of his strength and they had a place in things as the foundation on which his Truth rested.

He was Level 600 now, which implied that he could gain 99 more levels, and he’d also just reached the Sixth Star, so he should be able to gain a lot more essence, but with the singularity that had just happened with his Evolution, it was going to be a bit different than before.

He could feel himself gathering energy from the Void just by existing, and it wasn’t slow.

Soon enough, he would probably reach Level 601 and then the energy would elevate his attributes just like essence and experience had before, or even more.

And so on until he reached some limit, if there was one.

699 might not be where he stopped.

It was something he would have to explore in the future.

For now, he was still himself and perhaps even more so than ever, and that meant he needed to keep his promises.

The new Sovereign of Silver Chaos let the idle thoughts drift from his mind as he turned his attention to the task ahead of him.

Namely, forging the human domain.

I really hope Jake Juice doesn't stick for Origin energy, nor Sam Sauce here. But it would be funny.

Muh boi just surpassed Caerlon! I've been waiting for this moment for untold ages, lol. Seems to me that with some experimentation he'll be able to create the magic goop that Titans need to procreate. Sam is probably gonna either end up making Titans himself or eventually bringing back any surviving Titans from the other galaxy to give them his magic stuff. I feel like it needs a special name like Jake Juice, maybe Sam Sauce? Hastern Hors d’Oeuvres? Heck, if he can make the primordial chaos fragments or just large amounts of the stuff, maybe he could even elevate select individuals or entire races to become essence using primordial races with time and experimentation. Twould be pretty awesome if he could turn his girlfriend into a Titan equivalent of her original race. One of the other sovereigns probably will end up being an outsider just to reintroduce some conflict into the story again so it's not all smooth sailing. And to provide the means of Sam becoming the first 7th star being ever by overcoming extreme adversity. But if he starts turning the powerhouses of his galaxy into primordials then the galaxy should still be fairly safe from invasion. Especially since he's a special sovereign and his domain basically encompasses his entire galaxy. Hopefully he's able to also use that to track down and wipe out the rest of the vok to ran things.

Yep. Fixed. Thanks!

“He looked up at the open Void and he could see the slow swirl of experience and experience that was appearing from every direction as it pooled around his main body. “ Instead of “experience and experience”, shouldn’t it be experience and essence?

But that also opens up the possibility of The Self Fulfilling Prophecy, if the other titans knew he was "around" then... wibbly-wobbly. Timey-wimey.

Carl Mason

Nope, Caerlon never reached it.

David North

We have waited for this for a long time, and it was worth the wait. Thank you so much!

Joe

But whether he can change things that already happened…that’s where I’m drawing the line for the moment. Not so far.

David North

More the backdating. He’s part of the heart of the void.

David North

When his age says "Eternal", is that just saying he is immortal and does not age any more, or is that backdating him into the chaos so that he has to some degree always existed? That was my only point of uncertainty here.

Carl Mason

I read that as there were/are two other sovereigns of chaos, who are not titans. With no direct commentary on who or what those sovereigns are I don't see grounds to speak on their races, which may or may not be primordial. The primordial bit said to me that because he was a primordial sovereign he would recieve additional benefits beyond what he would have recieved if he were not.

Carl Mason

The Heart of the Void mentioned something about Sam being not just a Sovereign but a Sovereign of a Primordial race. That reads to me like there have never been an Astral Titan to have become a Sovereign before and I feel like if there had been it would have said so. It also read like if there had been any Sovereigns that used to exist, they too would have been counted as part of the number of Sovereigns that have existed. So when the Heart said there had only been, up to that point, two other Sovereigns to ever exist, I'm pretty sure it meant all past and present Sovereigns to have ever existed, ever, since the universe came into existence. The Heart also almost practically said that the other two Sovereigns did not come from a Primordial race when it deliberately mentioned that Sam was not just a Sovereign but a Sovereign that has originated from a Primordial race. Which means Sam is unique for a Sovereign compared to the other Sovereigns, as well as a unique Astral Titan compared to all other Astral Titans who have ever existed. First, because he started life as a human and second, because he is the first Astral Titan to have qualified to become a Sovereign. Sam's life up to that point is just breaking all kinds of molds and creating all kinds of precedents.

Nicole Hicks

Alright, I edited down ~600 words. Hopefully less repetition now.

David North

Astral energy and starlight are silver. The Titans have a natural golden energy too that forms into their Astral Blade, etc.

David North

Is silver a significant color to the Astral Titans? At first I was willing to write off the Main hall of the High Council being the Silver Hall as coincidence and Sam's titles as personal preference. But now as the only Sovereign of the Astral Titans he is the Sovereign of the Silver Chaos. Is there any greater thought or is it just consistent theming?

Brisingaer

It sounded to me from his class description like he could create Primal Chaos, which is the big problem with Titan reproduction. Babies should already be sorted, unless I misunderstood something. There is just the making of now.

Carl Mason

Not an easy thing to do I’m sure. It was all written well and I hate to see good passages cut, but with multiple people saying it, it can only help the flow of reading for the future readers to make such an editing pass. I certainly can’t do it which is just another reason why I’m not a writer and why I don’t envy you and other authors from having to hack at your own works to polish them.

Brian Schwab

I’ll cut down some repetition in it shortly.

David North

Wow this chapter was amazing! Thank you. I do agree it seemed a little wordy/redundant in the middle there but not enough to break the pace of reading. I also wonder if this new class/truth of his means he can have kids now, or create new primordials and creations that where only possible with astral chaos (like the path of the stars and world core) or is primal chaos different somehow? But I feel like with how it was described, if it is different then it’s more foundational then even astral chaos was so should be able to create it.

Brian Schwab

Awesome chapter thanks for the update. Also I wonder if Sam is correct about a demon holding a sovereign title. If so is it even possible to kill the demon in question?

Aldrin

Woah 😮 That was so epic. I was really expecting that titan of runes to be one of the previous Sovereigns but I guess not.

ReadingObsessed

So does this mean none of the other Titans became sovereigns?

Aaron Schwartz

Thanks for the double chapter. Would be interesting to see where Lady Winter is level wise after so many years, is she stuck at 699. Lord of Silver Stars/Guardian of Aster Fall is still my favorite Class and Subclass that he's had.

Richard Cooke

There's also mystery of what kind of beings are not of Primal Chaos origin.

Rubeno

So MC has evolved from lvling up just himself to being able to evolve whole infrastructure that dictates lvling up in the first place. Theres so many possibilities. Enhancing wild part of the galaxy so it produces better natural treasures, monster creation, upgrading whole solar systems etc as long as "wildness" part of that galaxy part is preserved I guess. Titans seem to have flaw of sometimes making things too orderly.

Rubeno

That was satisfying! Thanks

Lonnie

This chapter was epic! I love seeing this new evolution. Can’t wait to see Sam upgrade his abilities to mythical eventually.

Stephen

"Bow before Zo,er Bow before Chaos!"

Ori Shifrin

Just perfect as always can not wait to see what happens next

Wildon

This is great. Some parts of the evolution were pretty repetitive, but otherwise this is a good direction. The only goals left in the series I think will be figuring out how to bring himself/others to the 7th evolution and making babies. I reckon reaching the 7th evolution will solve the latter problem. He’ll probably be able to conjure up a spark of chaos. After that he can just follow the steps he took to become an astral titan.

Sloth

That was Great Sir i can not wait to see what he dose next you never know ther may be so baby Titans any way sence he holds Primal Chaos now or use it

Dennis Gay

Tftc! That was a great chapter.

brennon Petersen

Awesome! There was quite a bit of filler in the middle there, while Sam was letting the experience and essence roll in, where it felt like the same things were being said repeatedly, but with a few words rearranged. And I was afraid you were gonna leave us on a cliff right before the actual evolution. I was about to be hella upset! Thanks for not leaving us hanging, and for another amazing, extra long, chapter!!

MarineDebris

I hope he does still get his titan racial abilities if/when he crosses the remaining attribute thresholds. They where always really interesting to read.

Disclancer

6k words. Double length. Edited now to reduce some repetition (hopefully).
