Book 8 Wrap Up and Next Book Poll

Book 8 is starting to wrap up here (just a few things to do now), so if you have any loose ends, questions, or things you want answers to, now's the time to tell me!

I'm considering half a dozen options for the next book and I'm on the fence right now whether that will be Aster Fall 9 (strengthen Aster Fall, explore the galaxy, reestablish Titan knowledge, maybe rescue the old Titans if they need it), River of Fate 4, or a new series idea I have.

For AF9, I have lots of events that could happen and going through the Nexus is a possible future (after a long time in this galaxy), but Sam is at a very high point in power. Altey's academy chapters would be in there somewhere.

So, feel free to let me know what you're most interested in.

Here's my blurb idea for a new series, called Wild Era:

"Getting pulled through a rift between worlds was not how Kelin expected his afternoon to go.

The new world is full of ancient magic and monsters, but the first thing he sees is a version of himself. In this world, he was near the peak, planning to reach the highest level as an adventurer, but his future was shattered by his enemies.

As he was dying, an ancient power that he had long cultivated in his bloodline awoke. It couldn’t save him, so it did the next best thing and pulled a new version of him there for a second chance. Or as close as it could get.

This Kelin is from a different reality and just starting his adventure, but time is not reset. If he wants to survive the people who killed him, this time he’ll have to ascend the right way, hitting all the titles and rare dungeons he missed the first time.

The era is wild, full of magic and chaos, but there's one rule to his new life that no one can ignore.

There is no replacement for power."

Here's a poll for the next book. No guarantee on this, but let me know what you like the most.

I have the same challenge.

David Bradford

If he’s visiting the settled half of the galaxy, he should probably look into finding the Ice Sylphs ‘mother.’

TimeDrawsNigh

So far, it's looking like AF9 is next. Okay. There's plenty of material there. I think...we might see Sam play around at the academy with Altey. Maybe as a guest professor. Should be hilarious. He can always leave an avatar there to go do other things too.

David North

I'd need two of me! It's hard to switch between stories. I lose time remembering what I was doing. It's looking like AF9 and then RoF4 now.

David North

I know this might be a lot to ask, but I really want a new River of Fate book on top of AF9, is there any chance that maybe you switch to 1-2 chapters each a week?

Alexander Ball

Not to throw further ideas in your head but what about a series of short stories about some of the folks from Sam’s early years, such as the Paladin and the Guard / leather worker? Or his dwarf friend?

John Smith

This, this please! I want to see what’s going on with the High Nine and would love to hear what happened to the folks he freed from the World Limit.

John Smith

The blurb for Wild Era is interesting. Does it occur in the same galaxy/university/time period as the Guardian of Aster Fall or somewhere new? Book 9 would be interesting if it introduces High Nine, explores Altey's time at the academy, allows Sam to repair the broken/shattered lands, provides some info on what happened to his grandparents and if they are aware that they are related to him, allows Sam to encounter a Titan who didn't go through the Nexus but explored beyond the galaxy, and maybe produced a new threat.

Phoenix

Yep.

David North

As much as I love RoF I will always prefer that the author finish one series before starting another. It is so frustrating when an author has 3 or 4 story arcs going at once

Kim

I don't like the idea of having so many open ones either.

David North

Two cents on book releases: From a consumer fan perspective, getting the next book in a series is always the best, especially if the series is getting close to wrapping up (so AF9, or RF4), that said a spin off following stand-alone book for a favorite character (ie: Alty's Academy) is fine, as long as its necessary to fill in the gaps of the main story and set the stage for the next book. While I understand that a new series is exciting for authors, and its sometimes necessary to get a burning idea down so its not taking up headspace, from a reader perspective, two simultaneous series is tolerable (albeit barely), but once a third is added (with the expectation of some very focused very prolific writers who are able to churn out massive quantities of quality work quickly and congruently) it usually has makes the gap between series releases almost unbearably long, and makes it more difficult to stay connected to each series, as one is constantly switching between different storylines of a similar writing style and it can be hard to keep the stories strait (both for the author and the audience (in some cases where an author was self publishing or was using a lower end editor, I've even seen names and plot that accidently ended up in the wrong book because the author apparently forgot which series they were working on. All of that to say, please keep to no more than 2 congruent series at a time, and if you want to write a one off filler book to flush out a character on occasion that seems to work well both, but please if you really want to focus on a new series, cap one of the current ones with a rewarding and conclusion (wrap up main and subsidiary plots of world and main character, and give main side characters conclusion to subsidiary plots, or transition to something completely new

Steel91

I would love to see the next RoF book first since it's been a while since we had one, but a new AF with all the fixings comes in a close second.

Chioke Nelson

Yep, that’s a front runner too.

David North

How about “High Artificer”

Aaron Schwartz

True enough.

David North

Especially since I want to meet the old titans. Last titan only works as a title if he’s the last

Catherine

Af9. I'd like to see him visit the council. Meet the mother of the Winter Sylphs. Bring Alora home and by then Asenya should be recovered and they can patch the World Core. That's a good place to leave things if you want to move to an Alty based one shot or another direction. Phase two series for AF if you wanted could be heading out to find other Titans

Richard Cooke

Could call it “High Nine” or “High Council” too.

David North

Book 9… the Nine… Atley’s academy… Sam being an overprotective brother…

Mike

I would say the next Aster Fall book, followed by Altey's Academy book, and maybe the new series while it is fresh and hot. Maybe the new series first if you need to get it out. For some reason, I just cannot get excited to read River of Fate, I have started it, like, 4 times and have not been able to get very deep.

Carl Mason

I think whuck ever your Muse is whispering about will be the easier write and best read. It does seem, Sam through the nexus might be a good follow up series. I'm a fan of Verse.

Frank Moore

My favourite would definitely have to be AF9 however I also think that a standalone academy book would be great! I can already picture some Noble saying to Altey “don’t you know who my parents are” while her bigger brother is wiping them into shape!

IBW

The only option I won’t like is a new series. If AF series is done, then we can start a new series. But it looks like you have plans for more books

MillionLittleE

Title’s up in the air still. World Forger was an idea I had once too. It’s more Asenya’s title, but maybe. We’ll see.

David North

Which is your favorite? :)

David North

Not gonna lie, I had assumed that the last book in this series would be called world forger. I really don’t like the last titan.

Aaron Schwartz

I have my favorite, that said I think whichever flows the best will give us the best read.

Jennifer Leigh

FWIW, I think it’s hard to judge without reading a chapter or two of the new books. Especially the new world. Also don’t underestimate the value of writing which in flows for you. Looking forward to reading whichever you pick to write next

John Smith

Kinda feel that Sam getting stronger is kinda superfluous. I’d rather see a short bit on him in the main galaxy with the primary focus on altley or at least an even balance of POVs between the two. That being said, the next book of River of Fate would be far more welcome. I think there is much more to be written there, maybe take some time to consider what direction you want to go with AF and not rush it.

Bum-Sama

RoF 4 is first choice. But Atley stand alone academy arc is second

Hammy

Can I spam vote for RoF4?

Ira White

Hi David! I'm torn between more Sam and more Verse. I would be super interested in a titan rescue arc though! So maybe RoF and then rejoin Sam in book 9 after a time skip to speed some things up? IDK I'm torn!

ErrebanRrereban

I would like river of fate 4 But I’m gonna pay your Patreon regardless so don’t burn out on the series you’re working on now but if you think you’ll lose steam, if you come back to it later, then stay with it If you would like to write a new series, go ahead Whatever you choose, don’t be pressured by us and pace yourself

Zachary Blevins

Pleaseeee more from Sam as a Titan, it won’t feel complete until we see him hit the sixth evolution!! Not to mention him going even higher would be so cool! I feel like there is so much you could keep writing for Sam, and it would not be boring at all!
