Legend of Items, Abilities, and Characters for Reference
Added 2024-09-12 15:16:29 +0000 UTCShawnForReal from Discord mentioned how it would be helpful if we had a running list of characters so far in the story. I thought it was a great idea and decided to put it all together today. While I was at it, I also compiled all the items and abilities for Brynn and Lyria, just as a kind of "book 1 is almost finished" kind of reminder list. This can be something I'll keep on hand for book 2 as well, maybe as a reminder/recap portion to start off book 2 so we don't forget everything going into the next phase of the series.
I'm gating this to Silver Tier for now because it is written with everything up to chapter 82 for now. Once Iron/Wood get to 82, I'll unlock this for them.
Okay, again, spoilers below! Read on at your own risk if you haven't read up to chapter 82 yet!
-----------------
BRYNN (Level 1, Iron) (Prestige Level 1) Path of the Fertile Seed
(Known Ranks Wood->Iron->Silver->Gold->Diamond->Mythril->(???)-->Gods)
ACTIVE SKILLS
1. Forge Echo, Tier 3 (Summon a copy of Brynn’s weapon. Tier 3 allows him to imbue the copy with sentience)
2. Elemental Chain, Tier 3 (Brynn may spray projectile liquid forms of elements he has equipped or touches. Tier 3 evolution allows him to form a cloud of an element that rains down the effect)
3. Elemental Spike, Tier 2 (Brynn may form an elementally charged weapon by copying the effect from items or the environment)
4. Devour Mana, Tier 2 (Consumes the target’s own mana to heal their wounds)
5(+1 slot from Prestige path). Awaken Mana, Tier 1 (Can summon an ally based on one of the four main classes, Heart, Soul, Sword, or Shield)
6(+1 slot from Fusion class). Mana Shield, Tier 2 (Can summon various shapes of protective mana shields in space)
PASSIVE SKILLS
1. Elemental Body, Tier 2 (Boost resistance to elemental attacks)
2. Sense Mana, Tier 2 (Perception of mana increases, also provides extra sensitivity to hostile magic attacks)
3. Leeching Surge, Tier 1 (When struck by hostile magic, Brynn or nearby allies will have their mana regeneration buffed by a portion of Brynn’s current mana regeneration rate)
4. Mana Drain, Tier 1 (Damaging targets drains mana)
5(+1 slot from Prestige path). EMPTY
6(+1 slot from Fusion class). EMPTY
Known Equipment Rarities: Common -> Rare -> Epic -> Legendary -> (Top tier is a 3-way split. Differences between Angelic/demonic not currently known) Cursed/Demonic/Angelic
EQUIPMENT (BRYNN) (All equipment is Wood rank)
1. Abyss Walker’s Boots (Epic) - Brynn can become intangible for 2 seconds, passing through objects and people. 1 minute cooldown.
2. Cloak of Absorption (Rare) - Reduces damage from magical attacks, but only if they hit the cloak.
3. Amulet of Escape (Epic) - One time use, teleports the user a short distance away from danger.
4. Bug Lover’s Boon (Rare) (Trophy) - damage to wood rank bugs moderately improved. Vague weirdness about appreciating the physical shape and appearance of bugs.
5. Trapper’s Net - Just putting this here to remind that it got wasted in the failed trap against Rake. It’s gone!
6. Lesser Talking Stones (Common) - Works like short range walkie talkies.
7. Augment Token (Epic) - lets Brynn bump the rarity of a Common item to rare, or a rare item to epic. The item has to be Wood. (Brynn was considering selling this, but didn’t have time before finding his bed roll and having to leave Thrask. He still has it).
8. Silver Scream Bow (Legendary). Brynn can conjure 3 Silver Scream Arrows to his quiver at a time. Each can be filled with an element of his choice. If the arrow is in a target, it begins a 2 minute countdown. For 2 minutes, it will inflict more and more of the elemental effect over time (if applicable). At the end of 2 minutes, the arrow will detonate the “Silver Scream” effect, which will instantly re-apply the total amount of inflicted effect.
9. Bedroll of Restless Days (Cursed). Benefits: Fully rested in 1 hour, cleansed of and granted mild resistance to dark mana, corrupted mana, and soul burn when fully resting, portable and can be used outside of personal space, recover from injuries, even regrowing ears (but not limbs, only ears, and only one ear per night).
Negatives: anyone else who tries to use the bedroll will be haunted to death. It has bed bugs. It has to feed on corrupted mana, dark mana, or soul burn. If it grows too hungry, it will awaken and eventually become a diamond-level threat, killing anything and everything in its way.
POTIONS
1. Dragon’s Tail Potion - Highly flammable liquid. Instantly ignites when exposed to air.
2. Bombroot Potion - Highly explosive when touched by fire.
3. Viperlilly Potion - Poison that causes damage over time and reduces regenerative effects
4. Corpse Rot Poison - Burns on contact like acid, causing instant necrosis and inflicting a poison. Brynn ran out of Corpse Rot Poison, and would need to find another nest of Razorclasps to get more (or potentially a merchant who sells it).
5. Potion of Life - Temporarily animates various objects, causing them to behave in a chaotic manner.
6. Potion of Refreshment - Cleanses exhaustion and refreshes the mind. Brynn ran out of this, too.
7. Potion of Healing - Heals damage over time, but not as quickly as Brynn’s Devour Mana ability.
LYRIA (Level 35, Wood) (Soulbound?)
ACTIVE SKILLS
1. Wind wall - creates a wall of powerful, protective wind.
2. Gust - a strong gust of wind can push enemies back.
PASSIVE SKILLS
3. Venting Wounds - deadly, pressurized air will rush out of injuries.
4. Survivor - When an attack would otherwise kill her, Lyria will survive for 10 seconds. If the lethal damage is healed in that time, she will survive. If not, she will die.
EQUIPMENT
1. Basilisk’s Shield (Epic). Can petrify a target for five seconds. More likely to be resisted by targets above Wood rank. 2 minute cooldown.
2. Field Kit (Rare). Wrap around a wound to heal injuries. Degrades with each use. (she has used it one time to help Thorn).
CHARACTERS:
(Brynn, Level 1, Iron) Human from Earth. Learns he was formerly one of nine gods who ruled over the world of Eros. A threat forced him and the other nine gods to sacrifice their power in exchange for powerful prestige paths, unlocking new heights of advancement but forcing them to start again from the bottom. Brynn’s path increases his experience gained dramatically, boosts his active and passive skill slots by 1, and allows him to equip a second class corestone. It also wiped his memory of everything after he appeared on Eros, meaning he doesn’t remember being the God known as “Seraphel.” Brynn has a divine ability that lets him “Delete an item: Restrictions apply - 48 hour cooldown.” For now, he thinks the best use of this is the capability to risk taking cursed items, because he can delete them if the curse is too punishing.
(Lyria, Level 35 Wood) Human. Brynn meets her in Riverwell. Meeting Brynn awakens an ambition in Lyria she had been suppressing. After the events in the infested ruins, she decides to travel with Brynn, both to play a part in something bigger than herself and also to seek adventure she had given up on experiencing for herself after the death of her parents.
(Jinglefoot, Tomte) Tomte. Deceased after trying to steal Brynn’s helmet. Though, some rumors exist that his role in the events of Eros are not over yet. Some rumors even exist that Jinglefoot could be the greatest evil of all. Rumors are often false, but amusing.
(Jarn, Level 4 Iron) Human. Guard captain of Riverwell who assigns Lyria to watch Brynn. He takes part in the raid on the infested ruins and survives. Stays behind to keep watch over Riverwell incase the lich returns.
(Circa, Level 50 Silver) Human. Adventurer who was hunting a dangerous Forsaken, which she tracked down to the ruins outside of Riverwell. Her parents raised her as a Watcher for Seraphel - a centuries-old order dedicated to watching for the return of the gods after their disappearance. Circa had become disillusioned with the cause and instead wanted to focus on how she could use her talents to help the people of Eros. Meeting Brynn/Seraphel was a conflicting moment for her. She recognized the importance of helping him, but was too invested in her mission to stop the Forsaken in the ruins to lay everything down for Seraphel. With Brynn’s blessing, she pursued the Forsaken and was killed, but managed to temporarily defeat the Lich, sending her back to her phylactery.
(Lich, Level 50 Silver) Forsaken woman found deep within the infested ruins outside Riverwell. The Lich sensed a “godling” among the adventurers trying to defeat her. Circa recognized the danger in this moment, sensing that the lich wouldn’t stop once she knew there was a weak godling. Defeating the lich was seen as a way to buy Brynn time to get more powerful before the Lich could track him down.
(Rock, Level 44 Iron) Tomte. An adventurer from a paved path based around synergies between a unique elixir and class abilities. Circa knew Rock when she was an Iron, and meets up with him to join her on the raid of the infested ruins from Riverwell. Rock survives, but stays behind in town.
(Kass, Level 40 Wood) Human. One of two brothers. Kass it the charismatic and charming brother. Both are archers. Kass has an ability that makes his arrows grow huge mid-flight. He travels with Brynn and Lyria through the Dark wood and stays behind in Thrask when Brynn and Lyria travel to the dungeon.
(Perch, Level 40 Wood) Human. One of two brothers. Perch is the edgy, quiet brother. He has an ability that connects strings to targets and lets him throw arrows, which stick to the strings and are pulled to enemies. He also joins the group as they travel from Riverwell to Thrask, stayind behind in the city because of personal business with his brother.
(Minara, level 30 Wood) Human. A woman who joins the party from Riverwell to Thrask. She’s a member of the radiant path and has barrier magic and healing magic. The “Radiant Path” seems to be a well-respected, but secretive order of healers. She’s on some kind of mission for them, and has to report back to the radiant path when the group arrives in Thrask, separating her from the group.
(Bloody Steve, level 40 Iron) Tomte. A berserker themed tomte who seems to get stronger based on how much blood is touching his skin. Short-fused and wild. Definitely racist toward cursed tomte, and not a very stable person. He stays behind in Thrask because he wants to visit all the whorehouses in Thrask before joining the group in the dungeon. Brynn didn’t exactly want Steve to come after learning that he may have lost his sanity to dark mana once before and killed or nearly killed an ally.
(Rake, Level 50 Iron) Human. Part of a group of three Irons who capture Brynn, Lyria, Kass, Perch, Bloody Steve, and Minara in the Black Wood. They are performing a summoning ritual to call a Briarwrath and hope to feed Brynn’s group to the creature, fully feeding it, which would grant Rake and his allies Iron Ascension Tokens. The plan goes wrong, and Rake is the only survivor from the group. He chases Brynn down, hiring Cassian and Morrivan to hunt Brynn in the Beastden dungeon outside Thrask.
(Jai, Level 50 Iron) Human. An ice mage who helps perform the summoning ritual with Rake’s group. She dies during the fight (killed by Bloody Steve).
(The Acolyte, Level 50 Iron) Human. Older man with Rake’s group who was using red mist to keep Brynn’s allies unconscious. He’s destroyed by the briarwraith. It’s later revealed that he was working for Oriander in some capacity, but failed to perform whatever task he was given.
The Nine Gods of Eros (information is mostly all from Brynn’s vision after the Briarwraith)
(Ithariel (?) Still full power. Didn’t prestige(?)). Sort of seen as the neutral voice of the Nine, maybe a leader, but not fully clear. Seraphel thought he sensed some sort of secret power “slithering” within Ithariel.
(Seraphel) Seems to be the god who discovered the idea of Prestige classes to the others. Appears to be the first to select a prestige class as well and was the first to wake from stasis.
(Elyon) Had a greatsword in the vision and seemed to have some kind of shadowy presence inside himself, maybe even speaking for him.
(Azmeria) Beautiful woman covered in living fire in the vision. Brynn realizes he recognizes her as the level 50 Wood covered in ash back in Riverwell. He saw her being escorted into a covered wagon by two Golds from the Divine House of Azmeria.
(Morathai) Dark haired and touched by a corrupted kind of magic that Seraphel felt more concerned about than any of the other strange powers touching the other gods.
(Celethiel) Large man with a beard. Violet cracks ran through his skin. He showed distrust of Ithariel and his intentions, maybe paranoid that Ithariel was trying to manipulate things so he would be in control.
(Sylphara) Purple hair and seemed to flaunt her beauty. Somewhat flirtatious. She appeared to be supportive of Seraphel and his ideas. Was known to spend significant time delving into the rifts. Sylphara was the name Oriander used to address the supposedly prophetic, burnt tree in his secret chamber.
(Thalion) not shown in the vision, but his divine house is the military branch of Ithariel’s governing system.
(the final god/goddess was not named or shown in the vision :)
(The Burned Man) He implies he’s one of The Nine, but doesn’t reveal who he might be. He mentions the name “Matthew Walsh,” which Brynn recognizes from his life on Earth. Whether this was mentioned to throw Brynn on a false trail or he has a real connection to the man isn’t clear). The Burned Man is either fully or partly inside the dark mana surrounding Brynn’s cores, allowing him some amount of control (how much is not clear) over Brynn and his powers, while also granting Brynn access to powerful dark mana modifications of his abilities.
(Trustworthy Quillon) Tomte. Alchemist shopkeeper in Thrask.
(Valdas Tepper) Human. The unofficial leader of the townspeople Brynn helped escort from Riverwell. Valdas and the other Teppers plan to use the money they earned from their share of the spoils to start a business in Thrask. Invites Brynn to check in to see what they have going in the future.
(Cassian, Iron) Human. Hired by Rake as muscle to enter Beastden dungeon and confront Brynn. Has a noble background, but presents himself as a disgraced noble looking for easy money or entertainment to Rake. Rake doesn’t fear him, so he doesn’t question the young man’s motivation deeply. Cassian has ties to a powerful father and appears to know Brynn is Seraphel. Oriander later reveals that Cassian is his son and is supposed to capture Seraphel for unknown purposes.
(Morrivan, Iron) Human. Half-Forsaken. Morrivan is a half-mad poison mage hired by Rake as muscle to go into Beastden dungeon. The mechanics of being partly Forsaken are not fully understood, but Morrivan appears to feed on bodies within the dungeon and progressively lose more of his sanity and even humanity. He’s a loose cannon, and seems to have fully gone wild after the fight with Brynn, where he was seen walking through his own poison as his skin flaked away.
(Krete) Unfortunate adventurer who is seen being corrupted by the dark mana within Beastden dungeon. He seems to have lost family members within the dungeon, and is convinced he will bring them back if he allows the dark mana to use him. Ultimately, he becomes a powerful Eclipsed, clearing out the entire Iron section of the dungeon and killing the Dungeon Guardian. Krete’s resistance against the dark mana is the only factor that gives Brynn and his allies an edge in the battle where he is ultimately destroyed.
(Vitus, Iron) Human. Young man in charge of a group of “Azure Guard” within Beastden dungeon. His mother is a top field general within Ithariel’s legions. The Azure Guard organization seems to be some kind of training program for young nobility of high status. They stand guard in dungeons and protect the surface from any monsters escaping, earning prestige for their families and scraps of experience. It’s implied their work isn’t usually dangerous, but this dungeon has presented a unique problem, forcing Vitus and his Azure Guard into heavy action.
(Names mentioned in Vitus’ perspectives. Implication is these people are all highly born young people who are part of the Azure Guard within Beastden)
(Marcia Anukis): Daughter of a top interrogator in the House of Azmeria.
(Julius Amun): Supposedly a direct descendant of Thalion himself. Grandfather was a famous assassin who worked for Ithariel and was credited with crippling the Hag who controlled the cursed tomte, effectively ending the Underwars.
(Isarona): No other detail given but a name and she’s cleaning up bodies.
(Thalor): No details, but serves as a scout within the guard.
(Fiona): No details.
(Thorn, Level 45 Wood) Human. Escaped Slave. Tank-like class themed around a magical shield attached to a chain and hooks attached to chains. Was part of a caravan being transported with Sylara, Ramzi, and Zahra. They managed to escape during a battle. Thorn and Sylara plan to get strong enough while hiding within dungeons, hoping to reach Iron or beyond before possibly being found to improve their chances of survival or maybe even avoiding capture completely.
(Sylara, Level 30 Wood) Human. Escaped Slave. Rogue or light melee themed class. Seems to be in a relationship with Thorn. Reserved and quiet. Distrustful of Brynn, especially after seeing him during the fight with the Eclipsed.
(Ramzi, Level 42 Wood) Sekmeti. Bard-like class that uses music themed magic. Good natured and friendly. Hopes to earn enough money to buy the freedom of his friends and family back in the Sekmet Sands.
(Zahra, Level 38 Wood) Sekmeti. Dark magic class that seems more focused on support than direct damage. Entanglement and blinding magic has been shown. She is curious, but friendly.
(Oriander, Level ?) Human(?) Implies he’s at least above Gold rank, but also implies he hasn’t reached divinity. Mysterious head of a religious order of “The Long Watch.” Appears that his order was watching for the return of the goddess Sylphara. He hints that he served The Nine before their disappearance and doesn’t believe they should have power again. Speaks of a plan but doesn’t explain what its goals are. Reveals he has somehow captured and imprisoned Sylphara, who has taken the form of a burned tree and seems to have prophetic powers, which he is taking advantage of.
Comments
Definitely. This will get useful for me too as the series gets deeper and deeper. For now, I was able to remember everybody chronologically, but I did have to go back and figure things out like what level they were. Having it listed will help me do a better job of keeping that kind of thing updated as the story goes.
