erias (raven) eurippe (dove) and the albatross are staking out a dove temple on the shore of the island. 

erias: you are sure these are meant to be manned? It looks abandoned.

eur: (jumps away) y-yes. Those were the orders given before I left, anyway. 

erias: you Doves are not known to change your plans once given. That is why you were chased from Avarie, after all.

eur: yes but that wasn’t me so kindly -

erias: why is it the Admiral asked you to come, do you think? Surely she does not expect you to go against your species.

eur: …i have said I will help the Resistance, and so I will. There are…things we were never told…things we were lied to about…things I have seen the truth of with my own eyes. If a Government can lie to an entire island of its constituents, what’s stopping another authority from doing the same? The Resistance has told me the most truth, and so I will follow them. 

erias: how noble.

eur: you are doing nothing different. Just for different…reasons, I’d wager.

erias: and what do you mean by that?

eur: I have seen the way you watch him. That king. There is a reverence there that surpasses the usual worship of royalty. What is he to you?

erias: (sneers) none of your business, that is what. 

eur: (smirks) and yet you have allowed him to escape you so easily. Volunteered to leave his side, even. why -

erias: (rounds on her, she flinches back into the rock) you. understand. nothing of it. 

albatross returns: enough. You may squabble about the history between your species when we are not on a mission. the Scouts report no movement near the temple. we’re going in. Eurippe, lead us to the back entrance as planned. Here (holds out gun to her) how far are you willing to go to put things right?

eur: (hesitates, then takes it with conviction) This way, Admiral. 

(leads them to a rock outcrop nearby covered in shrubs. feels around a bit until a large rock comes away and they enter a tunnel.)

eur (whispers): these were built into all the temples, to use as escape routes should they be attacked. 

erias: always prepared for others to revolt against your prejudiced ideas.

eur: (tight-lipped) perhaps.

[they pass a heavy metal door with a wheel lock and caution tape saying “restricted access”.]

alb: there is a light. get behind me. 

[approach metal trap door up a ladder lit by an exit light. push it open slowly into a storage room, the light coming from a crack under the door. There are boxes everywhere, Erias looks in one]

erias: white robes. we’ve found the laundry cupboard (sarcastically)

alb: put them on. it will give a few seconds distraction should we find anyone.

[eur is apprehensive as she puts the robe on, uncomfortable. notice that these new robes also cover wings.]

eur: these are…not standard. They go against the Dole’s rule of not concealing a person’s Species. Why have they…

[  they creep out the room, guns drawn. peer into a few rooms with nothing but temple things or living areas.]

erias: there is no -

[a dove appears from behind a door, knife in hand. aims for erias. eurippe shoots it before the admiral can turn. she stares down at her hand. the dove twitches on the ground]

eur: h-he’s -

alb: stunned. you are not trained to use a real gun, i apologize. good shot, though. (pats on shoulder).

erias: what is wrong with his feathers?

[they look down at the wings, one white, one black. the wing cover on the robes has slipped.]

alb: Chimera.  There may be more, and our cover is now blown. the other team will be entering from the front as planned, we need to clear the rest of the rooms back here, quickly. 

[clear rooms, stunning when they find chimeras. get to the last room with a wooden door.]

alb: this is the last one.

[kick it down, aiming guns in. when the light adjusts they see glowing eyes staring up at them.]

eur: these…these are…

alb: more old Crows. 

[in the resistance tunnels. Del is lacing his boots. rhaast and lulu lean against the wall, arms crossed]

lulu: we’re going with you. Tiraa told you to put a squad together to confront Cris, we’re a part of that squad.

del: no one’s seen him around here for weeks, but I’ve got a lead and it’s dangerous. I’m not asking you two to come with me.

lulu: Tiraa said -

del: tiraa had a lapse in judgement. I will get the job done, but I’m not fit to lead anyone else into it. 

lulu: you were assigned as Third in the temple raids, if Leadership thinks you’re capable of leading, then -

del: No, Lulu. They shouldn’t have done that either. I -

rhaast: What happened with that Crow?

del: …that…what…

rhaast: that Crow. The king one. You had beef with him?

Del:...I tried to kill him. Three times. 

Lulu: what -

Del: so you see, no one should follow me. No one should put their life in my hands. I’ll just destroy it (thinks to the people he got killed).

Nol (enters cave): And it is that kind of reflection that gives me confidence that you may have actually learned something from it all, finally.

del: Nol. I -

Nol: I will go with you, also. 

del: what -

Nol: we three know what you’ve done now, and we’re choosing to follow you again. (others nod). This is your chance to prove yourself to us. Are you up to it?

Del (looks at the feathers cyras cut all that time ago that he still hasn’t pulled. clenches his hand with the damaged fingertips from trying to save cyras at the prison): Let’s go. 

erias and eurippe sitting in the temple pews as the old crows are tended to by crew members. the cabinet holding thousands of crow feathers is open. they stare at it.

erias: thank you. for saving me.

eurippe: it was just luck.

erias: you watch me so closely because you are afraid, are you not?

eur: I was told the stories. I was told something worse, too.

erias: oh? and what was it?

eur: that when the Ravens return, the Doves will be wiped out for good.
