To answer your question about what Sun Wukong's Staff is, it's a pillar. It's a pillar of black iron 20 feet in height with the with of a barrel, Wukong suggests it become smaller so it would be more manageable so it does. Also the connection between goku and Wukong is very much like a lot of other anime, Just a character that shares the name with the mythological being and telling their own stories about it. Goku's name is just Sun Wukong Translated into Japanese.
