lyr and co still on carrier boat. erka has kid in her lap.

E: how long have we been stuck on here?? days?? weeks?? 

L: i never thought i’d miss land so much.

Kieera: i never thought i’d miss quiet so much. I’m never having kids I swear

L: It’s always “Mother! Mother!” that Flamingo must’ve really connected with them for someone who kept them stashed in their keg room. 

Kerwik: the Admiral says we’ll be stopping to refuel soon.

Kier: wait really? (looks around at open ocean) …where exactly??

Ker: apparently there’re outposts between the island and …Avarie. Some kind of backwater supply stations used by the continent for ocean settlements.

Lyr: why don’t we just go back to the Island and use one of the gov’s stations?

Ker: I’m sure the Doves hunting us saw us heading to the boat. They would’nt have risked the confrontation with whatever force was manning it, but there’s no doubt they’re probably watching the fueling stations there. 

E: so we’ll be able to see proper…Avarians? Avarites? 

Ker: funny you should say that. the Admiral has a job for us. (throws down sack) put these on. we’re going ashore. 

(Show Dove watching them from where she’s hiding on boat)

group flying, wearing avarie clothes. two sallies with them also redressed. getting closer to other flying people.

E: is this a look? i can’t tell. kinda ancient lost city vibes. 

L: this fabric’s scratchy af 

Kier: do we seriously have to wear -

Kerw: we need to blend in and get the food on this list, everyone keep your traps shut and I’ll do the talking.

Kier: Why you? You don’t know any more about this place than us

Kerw: I have the highest rank out of us, the Admiral put me in charge. 

sallie 1: we’re going to alert replenishment oiler to make its way to the carrier. report back to the ship at fifteen-hundred hours. 

(guards fly off)

E: why doesn’t the carrier just come closer?

Ker: we don’t want Avarians to see the foreign ship. the Admiral has a deal with the refuelers here, but we can’t go alerting whatever authority rules this continent that we’re crossing borders illegally.

L: why is there even a border? Why were we separated and lied to in the first place? I know the Admiral explained about the Crow War being the climax, but why wouldn’t we be welcomed back now that everyone on the Island knows about it after that Resistance announcement?

Ker: Why would they allow terrorists back after they killed their royal family? They’re keeping us out as much as the Islands gov are trying to do to them. 

(approach pillar rising from the ocean with a town along its sides and small roads weaving around. people bustling and sea serpent architecture and bright colours.

E: (awed) …why would the gov want to separate from this?

Land, weaving between people, looking at everything. 

Kerw: stay close, we’re to get supplies then get out as quickly as possible. (takes out drawstring purse and takes out a gold coin and examines it critically)

L: is that a fucking gold coin

Kier: there’re no card machines here, girls. We’re not on Kooup anymore. 

a white-winged girl with white flowing hair makes her way through the crowds, tailing the four. is so focussed on them she doesn’t notice the stares she’s getting until a kid points.

kid: ma, why does that person have white wings?

surrounding people turn to look. mother ushers kid away.

person1: Dove.

p2: where has THAT been hiding??

p3: take your prejudiced ideas and go back to where you crawled out from -

the four waiting as kerwik pays for a bag of flour at a stall. see a commotion behind them.

Lyr: what’s going on over there?

Kier: they’re chanting something?

E: sounds like -

Lyr: Dove.

three go to get closer. see dove girl surrounded by angry people, scared. Lyr looks at her hair and mouth.

L: I recognize her mouth. that’s that Dove who showed us to the Altimeter in that Dove HQ.

E: (you recognize her by her mouth? that’s a bit gay bro)

kier: she followed us? how -

L: looks like we’ll need to rescue her if we want any answers.

kier: seriously -

L: c’mon. 

kier: fuck

push through crowd. erka stays back and knocks a massive display over

E: o-oh wow! oh man how crazy this thing just fell over and oh jeez it’s really going everywhere -

people turn to look and avoid things rolling as lyr and kier grab the dove.

L: followed us all this way huh? 

D: i don’t know what you’re -

L: if you don’t want to be crucified, come with us. get moving

D: why would you -

L: go!

all run, erka catches up. kieera grabs a sheet and covers dove in it as they run. duck down back alley and into storeroom to hide. wait a bit, panting.

e: d’you think it’s -

door opens, all freeze, kerwik enters, angry

Ker: i turn my back for two seconds! two! what is with you cadets - (sees dove). what is that.

L: a dove.

ker: and why is it here with us

L: because - we’ve got some questions it seems like only she can answer.
