ree, comparing the picture she found in ky’s dads house to the woman counsellor in front of them

R: ky…is that -

(mothers gaze hones in on ky. ky stiffens.)

K: my mother.

(scra’s eyes widen)

R: seems you forgot to mention the tiny detail where your mother is the head of the Redguard. is this good? will she be more lenient on you?

K:...no. she won’t be. and the story about hiring me as your bodyguard wont work. they know about my dad taking keelee and fleeing to Kooup. …and they know i abandoned my post to follow them.

R: then what do we -

C: Counsellors, I am Cereea of Ashguard. these four were discovered by myself attempting to reenter Avarie airspace after purposefully and knowingly crossing the territorial border of a hostile nation, residing there in secret for years, and attempting to return afterwards. The High Crow ruled their actions as criminal and dictated their case be turned over to the Council for judgement. we await your verdict.

reamerdad: and who is it we are to preside over? State your names.

R:...reenara vermillioss

F: farrah vermillioss

S: scra eldwode

rd: eldwode? interesting. (looks at ky with contempt)

K:...ky…cedoc.

(other councillors murmur and look at his mother who remains impassive.)

rd: and i assume these are the remaining members of the vermillioss clan, here to advocate for their family?

P: oh no, these two have been estranged from our family for years now. we’re just here to watch, Counselor Imperius.

rd:...i see. well. and what is the reason for crossing the border, then?

(everyone looks nervous. cereea raises brow. farrah steps forward)

F: we were looking for the Crow King. while researching for a project, I came across the account of a servant who was there during the massacre of the Royal Family 50 years ago, who stated that she’d helped smuggle out the Queens last egg before the palace was stormed and the rest of the family slaughtered. I got curious, and my mate and i wanted to discover what had happened to it. after exhausting searches here, we got it in our minds that the safest place for them probably wasnt here at all, and turned our sights on Kooup. scra insisted he come too, as it would be a monumental discovery for Crow history if answered.

rb:...you didn’t think to inform the council of your discovery? and it didnt occur to you that by going there you were breaking the law at best, and instigating a war at worst?

F: with all due respect, counsellor, we didnt believe discovering the potential continuation of the monarchy would serve the interests of the Council, since it’s by the Crow King’s absence that you’re able to rule as you would. we were looking for the descendants, but at the same time were seeking the approval of our families, as well. we thought that if we discovered concrete answers, and even an heir, our families would take our relationship seriously. it was foolish and pointless, in the end, anyway.

rb: (turns to ky) and how do you fit into all this?

s: we -

K: i’m just a Redguard deserter who followed my disgraced father and grandfather across the ocean. that’s all. (looks mother in the eyes.)

s: but -

rb: (to guard) arrest him for desertion. for the rest of you, court proceedings will commence in due course. in the meantime, you will be taken to your cells.

(guards file in, taking them one by one. scra struggling to get to ky but hes being taken away from the rest)

S: ky - wait - no - ky!

(ky gives quiet sad smile before turning away and being taken off. scra taken down different corridor.)

(ree and farrah not struggling)

r: don’t struggle scra, ky made his decision like the idiot he is.

S: (being separated from them) but whats going to happen to him?!

R:...i don’t know. i dont know.

ree and farrah down another hallway.

guard: what sorcery is this? (yanks wing)

F: they’re so I can fly.

G: undocumented technology. confiscated.

(rips green feathers off, bolts flying and wires disconnecting)
