ree has nightmare. leaves farrah in bed, whos actually awake but says nothing.

ky looking down at scra with egg in bed. leaves and goes outside, finds ree.

K: i have to say, the most unbelievable part about yours and farrah’s story is that you met at a ball.

R: (smirks) it was an Old-Families ball for monarch-supporters. Farrah hadn’t been invited, and I found her about to set the curtains in the ballroom on fire.

K: why would she -

R: she took her role as a Feldpasser clan member seriously, back then.

K: so you stopped her from doing it so she didnt get caught?

R: i helped her do it, and took the blame for it while helping her escape. no one let me around a candle for years, after.

K: (smiles) you sound like quite the team.

R: we were, before i fucked everything up. the real kicker of it is, even without the note she left me saying she’d found someone else so that i wouldn't go after her, im not sure i wouldve actually followed her straight away even then. We’d had an argument, she said we weren’t doing enough to find the Crow King, I said we should enjoy the life we had at The Roost more. It was the most freedom either of us had ever had, regardless of being a military school, and I was finally being recognized for my skills. i’d become blinded by it all, i didnt see that she was struggling - didnt want to see that she was struggling. If i hadn’t have waited, if I’d run after her, stopped her, apologised, she wouldn’t have gotten caught by the Doves. that’s where we’re different, ky. no one was holding my sister ransom, or threatening to throw me in jail. i had a choice in my actions, and i made all the wrong ones.

Ree to ky: do you think we’ll ever be able to make it up to them

K: do you want to make it up to her

R: even if we’re no longer together, I dont think I’ll ever stop

K: Scra says he’s forgiven me, but I’ll never feel like I’ve deserved it

r: well, you’ve got a better shot at it than me. I’m rootin’ for ya.

K: I’ll go get them. This could be one of our last days of freedom, after all

Brings sleepy Scra with egg and farrah

s: it feels like we JUST went to bed, why am I being dragged outside?

R: you brought that thing

S: I’m sorry I didn’t realise you had an incubator lying around to lend me. what’re we doing out here any - (sees birds)

S: are those -

F: birds. (takes off in their direction. ree watches her sadly)

r: (turns to boys), you two coming? (takes off)

( scra looks nervously at ky. ky smiles)

k: c’mon. before they fly off.

all in air approaching flock.

S: what species are they?

K: Starlings. it’s called a murmuration when they gather like this. approach them slowly so you don’t scare them off, let them get used to you.

s: theyre so loud. the forest has been quiet up until now.

K: most of the birds have migrated to the Capitol for the winter, these are probably the last of them to go.

s: it’s like theyre dancing.

K: (takes hand) lets join them

fly with starlings. scra cant stop grinning. ky cant stop looking at him.

K: (ree’s right. there’s nothing we can do to ever make it up to them. but we’ll never stop trying, either.

This was such a Soft Ep but like I felt like they needed it before they get to the Capitol yk
