Well All the specials exist in a sort of non canon space. The later events and other stories made what happened to Bardock even more non canon as a Manga that came out shortly before super that showed Bardock sending Goku to space before Freeza blew up planet Vegeta. Abridged changed some things, but those are the basic story outlines for what happened in the OG versions. Some people view the specials as series canon but they are only kinda series canon. Dragonball is weird like that.
