trio+crows+ree’s bros flying over plains. brothers escorting them.

farrah to ree whispering: so…what’s the escape plan here? you have one, right? because there’s no way we’re actually going to your family’s keep, right??

R: …there’s no way we’d all outfly them. I’m not leaving the boys.

F: ree.

R: (closes eyes and shudders) i can’t leave them.

F: your parents -

R: I KNOW. I PROMISE i am very aware of what we’re flying into. …you could make it. I’ll distract my brothers while you get away.

F: im not gonna leave you.

R: (flashbacks of when farrah left before) once was enough, huh?

F: …

R: (smile falls when she realizes farrah didnt say anything back)

Scra further ahead: is that…your house, ree?

ReeBro1: welcome to our ancestral roost, the Vermilion Keep.

see sprawling castle in distance on hill.

S: (muttering to ky) I guess “house” isnt really the word for it.

landing. look up at gate.

S: i guess i didnt expect you to be loaded for some reason, ree.

R: I’m not. my family’s an old one - wealth accrues if you dont squander it.

RB2: but it hasnt been for lack of trying on our parts, has it? (RB1 sniggers)

door opens to an old butler.

B: young masters, you’ve brought guests -  MISS! where have - what are you - (sees farrah standing off to the side. mouth shuts) it has…been so long. we did not expect…the Mistress will be…surprised, I’m sure.

RB1: you can set a few extra places at dinner, can’t you Wik? I’m sure the kitchen won’t mind.

W: i’m…sure something can be arranged. How would your guests like their rooms to be arranged? (looks at the trio) what are your relationships to one another?

R: (squaring shoulders) you know where we stand, Wik. (farrah looks at her in surprise.

W: (lips twitches) indeed.

R: the Ashguard can have the adjoining suites in the west wing. there two (guestures to ky+scra) are…roommates. (smirks, farrah snorts. ky and scra look at each other but have just established they could be friends again so dont know what to call themselves so go along with it)

W: (eyes them) room…mates? is that what they’re calling it nowadays? regardless, any Crow noble will be housed in the gold room. Asi will show you to your rooms. the bell will ring when dinner is ready.

S: (to ree) dinner bell??

R: chill out, you’re meant to be a noble, remember? just play along and try not to say anything incriminating.

S: will your parents be…alright with us being here?

R: it was hardly our choice to come, but they never turn away a guest…you lot are the least of their worries i promise.

ree and farrah turn down a corridor leaving the boys to follow the maid. the decor gets more ornate the further they go.

S: (to ky) is it just me…or are things getting…fancier the further we go?

K: they, uh, certainly want to make some kind of impression for their guests, huh?

A: (opens the door) your room, Sirs. I have noticed you travel with no luggage. There is an array of dining attire in the dressing room that you will hopefully be pleased with.. Please relax before dinner.

(there’s only one bed, obviously)

k: sorry - i think there’s been a mistake -

A: I’m so sorry - is this not to your liking? The next best room is the Masters chambers but I’m sure the Lord and Lady will not mind swapping -

S: No! No, this is…this is great, thank you.

A: (beams) i hope you and your mate will be comfortable, please let me know if there’s anything you need!

ky and scra are left staring into the room.

S: well, at least we figured out why ree was smirking.

K: sorry, i shouldve realised - I’d forgotten some terms don’t carry over to here -

S: it’s fine, not like we haven’t spent months sharing a room. (and weeks sharing the same tiny bed because of my nightmares)

(tries not to think about them sharing a bed for ages too)

K: I’ll take the couch -

S: take the bed. your wings are still sore, right? they’ll get better faster if they’re not bent at weird angles. those old nest-beds are great, i promise.

K: (snorts). how awkward d’you reckon this dinner’s gonna be?

S: i mean, i have no concept of what a high-society dinner even looks like, but judging from the tension between ree and farrah alone, i doubt it’s gonna be pretty.

K: how much do you think they’re really hiding? not that im one to talk, but we barely know anything about Ree, and I’m pretty sure she’s done that on purpose.

S: i dont know, but i have a feeling we’re about to find out whether she wants us to or not.
