Ep 214 Script

214

del and rhaast in med bay, del on bed with IV.  del wakes up

D: where -

R standing to the side of his bed, arms crossed: Med Bay. You passed out after that last drill practice.

D (tries to get up, looks at IV, annoyed): if they weren’t running so many extra ones -

R: no one else is fainting, kid. the nurse said you’re malnourished and dehydrated.

D: what has my father -

R: he doesnt know. i stopped them from telling him. he’ll be none the wiser, so long as you sort yourself out and eat properly.

D: are you blackmailing me.

R: if that’s what it takes.

D: i should fire you -

R: perhaps you should, ive done a lousy job by being far too lenient with you.

both glare.

d stands, ripping out IV

D: im done with this.

R: you’ve still got -

D: im done. with all of this. everything. (goes to ensuite. finds razor in cabinet)

R: whatre you -

D: (putting shaving cream on face) did you pick up what i asked you to?

R:...yes. are you…sure you really want this? (hands it to him) vultures are proud of our scars, they show conviction.

D: (puts eyepatch on) this means nothing but failure. every time my father sees it, i see the shame on his face. getting into the director’s good graces by saving her was just the first step. it’s time to become the son my father always wanted me to be. im done being a disappointment.

R: people already see you as a hero.

D: those people are not my father.

R: does his opinion really matter that much.

D: his opinion is the only one that matters.

he steps out, clean shaven, eyepatch, gelled hair like season 1.

resistance group

chief: sorry for the delay, i had some time sensitive tasks.

perig: i think we’re all pretty ready to hear what you’ve got to say at this point, chief.

C: (smirk) indeed. and you, major?

M: i need to hear the whole story before drawing any conclusions, sir.

C: as expected. i’ll begin from the beginning, then. when i was kidnapped from my hospital bed. I’ll admit, of all the factions I expected to come for me, I didn’t expect the Magpies to be the ones who succeeded. there had been a battle, with the Corvids. i was caught in an explosion. a student from the academy rescued me. i woke up in hospital. that night the magpies came for me. (167) i was in a notable amount of pain, i only remember flashes, really. but they werent particularly gentle about it all. less so when i suddenly regained consciousness and realized i was surrounded by Sparrows, instead. as commissioner, i of course knew of the gangs that resided in the City, and i had an inkling as to the inner workings of the Sparrow Hosts. when i was able to speak, i let them know i was aware of their dealings with a certain resistance, and that i had information for them. information i would only be willing to part with if they took me here, to the headquarters of the resistance. i knew,of course, that once i’d seen this place, there would be no leaving it. i’m too much of a security risk. but im not particularly sorry for it, to be honest. i knew the Director was growing tired of my research into things she’d rather keep hidden - it wouldve only been a matter of time before i was no longer safe unhidden, anyway. i’d rather know the truth, than the lies i was helping to spread.

M: so, they’ve managed to brainwash you too, commissioner.

C: it’s all true, Major. I had my doubts about the government’s lies far before i came here. we who were hatched on this Island, and who were just children during the Crow War, were the first generation to be successfully indoctrinated into the propaganda. our parents and grandparents who remembered the time before the war were either silenced or taken care of. it was more prosperous for the higher-ranking species to stay quiet and complacent. those lower-ranking soon learnt it was safer to play along. and thus, the lie took root and spread. simple, effective, damming.

M: but…why? why go through all the effort just to isolate this Island from the rest of the world?

cepni: control. those who formed this government didnt agree with the old one, and their grievances ran too deep. the Crow War had been the last attempt to get the Island to conform. instead, it cemented the separation.

P: so…what now? who are you all, and what’re you even doing here?

Tarok: we’re fighters, historians, scientists - Avarians working to liberate those on the Island who need it.

M: thats presumptuous, isnt it? what if the avians here are better off as they are now?

T: isn’t it better to let them pick for themselves? that’s what we’re fighting for - truth, and choice.

Comments

Mari

Brek, your dad is awesome. You had better love him!! Also, this island's gonna be real interesting when all the non-raptors leave. Who will be left for those eagles to boss around?

Mari
