kieera knocking on Kerwick’s dorm room. opens door

Ker: Kieera? what -

(pushes inside) Kie: inside, quick.  listen, i’ve found something out and i dont know what the flock to do with the information.

Ker: um ok, and you’ve come to me because…?

Kie: because you’re, like, a peer but also have a job training us and stuff and I’m sure you’ve seen some shit and i honestly didnt know who else to come to, really.

Ker: sit downi guess -

Kie: i cant. listen, Kerwick, we’ve been lied to. our whole existence on the island is a lie.

Ker: what are you -

Kie: that Osprey, Cedoc, his dad told me. said their whole family’s not from this island. that they flew over here from another continent. that the rest of the world isnt destroyed from the Crow War. it was all just a lie.

Ker: cedoc’s dad?

Kie: i know he’s just a useless drunk, but -

Ker: i believe you. cedoc’s always been hiding something, i could tell from the start. the rest of the world, huh?

Kie: i just…what do we do with this information? if we tell people, we’ll definitely be arrested. or taken to a mental hospital. do you…think the Admiral knows? She works closely with the Director -

Ker: i havent seen or heard anything about the Admiral in a while, now. She’s postponed her weekly reports with me for the last few weeks and no one’s been able to give me an update on her return. even if we broached the topic with her, there’s no guarantee she won’t have us arrested herself. why did cedoc’s dad tell you?

Kie: he was drunk. ranting on about his son and the Director, says he’ll spread the Director’s secret if she doesn’t get his daughter back to him. this is bad, right? now we have a target on our backs just for knowing.

Ker: hey, i didnt ask you to tell me -

Kie: What do we do?

Ker:...nothing. wait. keep an eye out for anything weird going on. make sure Cedoc’s dad keeps his damn mouth shut - we don’t want him telling people you know about it, too.

Kie: i cant just do nothing -

Ker: what would you do, huh? you’ve gotta be smart about this. i’ll poke around a bit, see if I can find anything out, if i can find anything that corroborates what he’s saying. sit tight, don’t do anything stupid. (goes to leave)

Kie: (exhales) me, stupid? i wouldn’t dream of it.

tiraa, cyras and cici at house

T: you’re sure?

Cici: a cousin of the neighbour’s housekeeper does the grounds maintenance for the jail. he mentioned the new inmates to her in passing, and the neighbour’s housekeeper is a gossip.

T: (to cyras) do we try it?

Cy: we have no other leads. a stakeout shouldnt be too risky if we’re far enough away.

T: ok. ok. we’ve gotta tell keelee.

Cy: no, it’s -

T: whats she gonna do? tell the authorities? she’s as stuck here in hiding as we are. she needs to know what we’re doing, so she doesn’t feel like we’re abandoning her.

Cy: alright, there’s no harm in it. (to cici) you’ll watch her while we’re gone?

Ci: you dont have to worry about that. but i do have one question - if this rescue is successful, will you bring an entire Murder of Crows back here, and live in hiding together forever? whats the plan?

Cy: if we manage to get them out, they’re free to do as they wish. they wont want to have anything to do with me anyway, so there’ll be no crow invasion of this house, dont worry.

Ci: (raises eyebrow

Cy: current invasion non-withstanding.

T: we rescue them, then we’re taking keelee back to …Avarie, right?

CY: if we rescue them, i wont have anything keeping me on this island any longer. returning to avarie would be the only option, and giving her back to her family there seems like the best course of action.

KL: (behind door) for me or you?

all turn, cici opens door to show kl standing there, angry.

KL: (to t) i told you i dont want to go back to Mom.

T: (goes and kneels down) i-i’m sorry, but you can’t go back to your dad here, staying on the island is too dangerous for you and you’ll end up locked away somewhere again. it doesnt have to be your mom, do you have any other family there?

KL: (sniffs) an aunt. shes ok.

T: there, we’ll take you to her instead, ok?

KL: …ok. but you’re leaving me here.

T: just for a little bit, yes. we’ll come back to get you. you’ll have fun with cici while we’re gone.

kl tentatively reaches for her, hugging her. t is surprised, but then hugs back.

KL: promise you’ll come back. …both of you.

T: (looks back at cyras, who rubs neck with tattoo. cici gives cyras a look) we promise.
